Autism is a pandemic. Nations around the world are reeling from the explosion of children and young adults diagnosed with autism. A fairly recent analysis found the U.S. to be third in the developed world, in autism prevalence, with 1 in 45 children, South Korea, coming in second, with a rate of 1 in 38, and Hong Kong, first, with 1 in 26.
For most of these children, autism will be a life-long sentence because autism is treated as a mental disorder, not as a medical disease or illness, which can be treated. Disorders are managed, illnesses are cured.
Ed Arranga, AutismOne’s president and co-founder sees the coming AutismOne virtual summit as a means of reaching parents and professionals around the world with a message of hope. Arranga stated, “With a virtual online summit we can finally bring the world’s leading autism experts, to the world. It’s tremendously exciting and something we’ve always wanted to do.”
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. delivers the keynote address Thursday, May 21, at 11:30 am CT. Mr. Kennedy will also be talking to attendees in a reception, following his keynote.
The event features 13 distinct tracks, and over 100 leading experts, to provide the latest information and treatments on everything from HPV to childhood diabetes. In addition, there are movies, yoga classes, lounge areas, crowd-sourcing Q&As, and an assortment of engagement options provided in the attendee tool kit.
“We’re building something never seen before in the autism community,” said Candyce Estave, AutismOne’s communication director. “The degree of interaction and engagement is extraordinary. We’ve mapped the physical into the virtual.” Estave, continued, “Everyone from the attendees to the speakers are going to be amazed. There are things we couldn’t do physically, due to state rules, like showing a chiropractor doing an adjustment, we can do virtually.”
In addition, the Virtual Exhibit Hall will showcase products and services from exhibitors specializing in addressing the specific needs of individuals with autism.
Past attendees say that AutismOne continues to offer the most progressive information on the bigger picture affecting families with autism.
