“Lake Shore Savings Bank leads the way in corporate giving by offering every member of the community an opportunity to make a difference,” says Les Friedman, Mikey’s Way CEO.

Pediatric cancer patients in the Buffalo, NY area and their families are fortunate to have Lake Shore Savings Bank in their corner. From the day they learned of Mikey’s vision, Lake Shore employees and customers have worked tirelessly to help seriously ill children cope with the strain of long-term, debilitating treatment. Bounded only by their imagination, Lake Shore Savings Bank has spread the word and raised funds by dedicating the month of October as Mikey’s Way Foundation’s “Month of Giving” for the last seven years, raising an astounding $150,000 over that time.

“Lake Shore Savings Bank leads the way in corporate giving by offering every member of the community an opportunity to make a difference,” says Les Friedman, Mikey’s Way CEO. “We are deeply grateful for their vital work spreading Mikey’s vision of how to help kids cope with cancer.”

In addition to various in-branch activities that take place for the entire month of October, Lake Shore hosts a wine and auction event with the proceeds benefiting Mikey’s Way.

The theme for this year’s wine mixer is “Fall in Love with Mikey’s Way “and takes place on October 12, 2019 at the Williams Center at SUNY Fredonia. The event includes live music by the band Musicians Against Cancer, food donated by Chef’s Restaurant, a “wine” tent sponsored by 21 Brix Winery and an assortment of entertaining activities and games. For more information regarding the event, please contact Wendy Harrington, 716.366.4070 ext. 1260 or via email, wendy@lakeshoresavings.com.

“The giving spirit of the Lake Shore Savings Bank community is always so inspiring to me,” said Dan Reininga, President and CEO of Lake Shore Savings Bank. “What better way to demonstrate how we are ‘Putting People First’ than by rallying around pediatric cancer patients at their time of greatest need. Many, many thanks to our employees, customers and community members.”

Mikey’s Way Foundation was founded by Michael “Mikey” Friedman, who was diagnosed at 15 with a rare form of cancer. The Foundation gives laptop computers, tablets, and other Wi-Fi ready electronics to kids affected by the emotional and physical hardships of long-term debilitating treatment. They distribute these electronic gifts via their Mikey’s Way Day and Mikey’s Wish List programs to children all over the country. The gifts provide diversion and connection with family and friends, helping them to cope with cancer… Mikey’s Way.
