Labroots Hosts its 11th Annual Genetics Week Online Event, on May 16-18, 2023

Genetics Week, May 16-18

Labroots, the leading scientific social networking website, offering premier interactive virtual events and webinars, today announced its 11th annual Genetics Week virtual event scheduled on May 16-18, 2023. This premier scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through cutting-edge research and presented by a diverse range of leading experts from academia and institutions promises to showcase the latest developments in the fields of Genetics and Genomics, Precision Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics.

The 2023 global meeting for top scientists, research scholars, physicians, clinicians, medical and lab professionals and bioinformaticians spans three days of insightful presentations, interactive poster sessions, informal collaboration and networking opportunities, and live chat interactions with leading sponsors in the exhibit hall, you won’t want to miss!

The agenda comprises track sessions on emerging technologies and novel implementations, single-cell genomics, multi-omics methods and applications, long-read sequencing, representation in genetic and genomic studies, new approaches in molecular diagnostics, infectious disease diagnostics and surveillance, advances and applications in liquid biopsy, precision medicine in clinical practice, moving beyond mutation, and precision diagnostics. Thousands of conference attendees will be intrigued to learn more about health outcomes, novel therapies and advancements in health systems and personalized medicine today.

The first day of the conference encompasses over a dozen presentations by recognized speakers focused on Genetics and Genomics, and a keynote address titled, ‘How Do We Enable Precision Health at Scale for All’ with live Q&A presented by Carlos D. Bustamante, PhD, Founder and CEO, Galatea Bio, Inc. Shortly after, a second keynote talk titled, ‘The Path to Universal Newborn Sequencing” with live Q&A, by Robert C. Green, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of Genomes2People Research Program will explore the current state of genomics research and its potential to improve human health through personalized and preventive medicine.

Day two kicks off with three stellar scheduled keynote deliveries highlighting the precision medicine topic along with additional presentations available for immediate viewing when the doors open. Dr. Howard L. McLeod, Medical Director, Precision Medicine, Professor of Pharmacy and Medicine at Utah Tech University will explore “Precision Medicine as a Population Health Strategy” with a live Q&A session. The next keynote presentation titled, “The Impact of Clinical Practice Gaps on the Implementation of Personalized Medicine in Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (aNSCLS) with live Q&A will be shared by Daryl Pritchard, PhD, Senior Vice President of Science Policy, Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC) discussing what impact each clinical practice gap has on the population level delivery of precision oncology. Following, Dr. Stephen Little, Founder of Yourgene Health, will present a keynote talk featuring live Q&A on a high-level view of healthcare systems and suggest strategies to ensure successful translation of a CDx into clinical practice.

“Both wellness and disease management have come into focus, with an individual’s genetic variation emerging as a practical way to identify risk and personalize care,” said Dr. McLeod, Director, Center for Precision Medicine at Utah Tech University. “Advances in genome technology, applied informatics, and therapeutic interventions are expanding the impact on a patient’s health. This session on the Labroots platform will show how ‘cutting-edge’ is becoming ‘routine’ for many clinical areas.”

“While personalized medicine in oncology provides opportunities to improve outcomes, many cancer patients do not receive the most effective personalized treatments because of challenges associated with integrating predictive biomarker testing into clinical care,” said Daryl Pritchard, Senior Vice President of Science Policy, Personalized Medicine Coalition. “In this Labroots virtual session, we will discuss how clinical practice gaps involving operational inefficiencies, limited understanding of biomarker strategies, inappropriate testing result usage, and access barriers have led to inefficient clinical adoption of precision oncology in advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Insights from this discussion can inform efforts to optimize biomarker testing in clinical practice and therefore help drive the delivery of personalized medicine to all cancer patients.”

“The idea of using a diagnostic test to help select patients likely to respond well to a particular therapy is hardly new – Herceptest to predict response to Herceptin first appeared in 1998 and the field has continued to grow from there,” said Dr. Stephen Little, Founder of Yourgene Health. “Once quite a novel concept Personalised Medicine is now firmly established as part of normal healthcare practice. Using the Labroots platform I will give a high-level view of healthcare systems and what we have learned over the years to ensure successful translation of a companion diagnostic into clinical practice.”

Day three concludes the Genetics Week event bringing even more thought-provoking discussions relevant to the discipline of molecular diagnostics. A lineup of distinguished speakers on this day will cover topics such as on the advantage of combining short read whole genome sequencing, optical genome mapping and transcriptome analysis in constitutional and cancer diagnostics, the difference in standard of care (SOC) testing and self-collection sampling (SCS) for STI testing and where current regulations stands, achieving efficient and sensitive rare cell capture for culture and downstream molecular analyses, and advances in diagnostic testing for the bacteria, viruses, and parasites behind infectious gastroenteritis, plus more.

Produced on Labroots’ comprehensive platform, while connecting across all desktop and mobile devices, the interactive environment provides an immersive educational experience. The event includes a lobby with a leaderboard and gamification, an auditorium featuring live-streaming video webcasts with live attendee chats during scheduled presentations, an exhibit hall to interact with sponsored highlighting contributions in the field, a poster hall to explore data while engaging in live chat conversations with poster authors, and a networking lounge to collaborate with colleagues. By attending, participants can earn one Continuing Education credit (per presentation) for a maximum of 50 credits. This event will also provide CEU’s for Genetic Counselors and is pending approval by the NSGC.
