Labroots Hosts 8th Event in its Coronavirus Virtual Event Series on October 19, 2022

Coronavirus Virtual Event Series, October 19, 2022

Labroots, the leading scientific social networking website offering premier, interactive virtual events and webinars, today announced the 8th event in its ongoing Coronavirus Virtual Event Series, since the inaugural launch in 2020. This educational forum brings together researchers from an array of disciplines, clinicians, epidemiologists, and scientists across leading medical, industry and academic institutions across the world sharing the latest breakthroughs to address prevention, treatment and management of COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 and challenges presented.

The pre-eminent meeting continues to reach milestone attendance, offering a comprehensive agenda featuring distinguished speakers and innovators in healthcare today. The preceding (seven) virtual events will remain on demand for continuous viewing of valuable and informative content. The next set of presentations will go live on October 19th, 2022 at 5:30am PDT, on general topics covering epidemiology of COVD-19 – previous, current, and future trends, variants and how the virus changes, global preparedness, testing, research, and diagnostics, vaccines and future vaccines, and lessons learned via live-streaming video webcasts including keynote sessions (with live Q&A), industry-sponsored presentations, and on demand discussions available to watch immediately.

Kicking off the day, Dr. Adolfo Garcia-Sastre Professor, Departments of Microbiology and Medicine, Tisch Cancer Center Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai will deliver a keynote talk titled, “A Newcastle Disease Virus-Based COVID-19 vaccine.” In his keynote, Dr. Scott A. Rivkees Professor of Practice and Vice Chair, Department of Health Services, Policy and Practice Brown University School of Public Health will explore the direct and indirect impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children. The future of COVID-19: expectations and lessons will be discussed by keynote speaker Dr. Ali H. Mokdad, Chief Strategy Officer, Population Health, University of Washington; Director, Middle Eastern Initiatives Professor, Health Metrics Sciences Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, and Dr. Yvonne Maldonado, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity, Taube Endowed Professor of Global Health and Infectious Diseases, Professor of Pediatrics and of Epidemiology and Population Health, Chief, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Stanford University School of Medicine will share the natural history, diagnosis and monitoring and lessons learned in SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 in her keynote presentation. Finally, Dr. Walter Koroshetz, Director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health will delve into advancing toward recovery from post-acute sequalae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection (PASC): the NIH RECOVER Initiative in his keynote talk.

“Despite the success of current SARS-CoV-2 vaccines to dramatically reduce the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations, improved vaccines with increased protection from break-through infections are highly desirable,” stated Dr. Adolfo Garcia-Sastre, Professor, Departments of Microbiology and Medicine, Tisch Cancer Center Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

“Our children are our future and have been impacted in so many ways by the pandemic,” said Scott Rivkees, MD, Professor of Practice at the Brown School of Public Health. “In addition to comprehending the direct effect of COVID-19 itself on the pediatric population, it is important to also recognize the impact the pandemic has had on families, education, and the practice of pediatrics, and how this impact will last well beyond the end of the pandemic. I am grateful to the Labroots platform for providing a forum to discuss these important issues.”

“We have long known that people may suffer persistent symptom complexes after an acute infectious illness, but we have not been able to uncover its cause or devise effective treatments,” commented Dr. Walter Koroshetz, Director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health. “Now that COVID-19 has infected almost 100 million Americans, the post viral syndrome, now termed “Long COVID”, poses a major health and science challenge. The NIH RECOVER Initiative is built as a comprehensive research program to identify the underlying biology and test potential treatments. It’s a pleasure to discuss RECOVER on the Labroots platform.”

In addition to keynote presentations, other event highlights include a panel presentation sponsored by LGC Clinical Diagnostics titled, “COVID-19 Testing: Results and Recommendations from the Coronavirus Standards Working Group,” with Live Q&A. More informative lectures on Detection of SARS-CoV-2 Neutralizing Antibodies with GenScript’s SARS-CoV-2 Surrogate Virus Neutralization (sVNT) Test, A Phase 1 Trial of Cyclosporine for Hospitalized Patients with COVID-19, sponsored by NanoString Technologies, and a Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsored presentation on influenza: an underestimated threat, and much more you won’t want to miss!

Produced on Labroots’ robust platform while connecting across all desktop and mobile devices, the interactive environment delivers a seamless educational experience for all participants. The interactive event consists of a lobby with leaderboard and gamification, an auditorium featuring live-streaming video webcasts with live attendee chats during scheduled presentations, an exhibit hall to interact with sponsors and view their recent contributions in the field, a poster hall to explore data and engage in live chat conversations, and featuring a poster competition to give your research a competitive edge, and lastly a networking lounge to connect and collaborate with colleagues.
