Inbound Health, a company that enables health systems and health plans to offer hospital-at-home and skilled nursing-at-home programs, announced today it has expanded its Home Hospital Care program to include general surgery, including orthopedics, bariatrics, and hernia. This expansion builds upon the company’s success in hospital and skilled nursing-at-home care and marks a significant milestone in its growth.
Inbound Health first launched its orthopedic surgery platform in September 2020 and added spinal surgery in November 2020. Since then, its patient population in orthopedics has grown by 31% from 2021-2022, demonstrating the success of the platform. The company is now expanding its surgical care platform to include general surgery, which has already grown by 67% from 2021-2022.
“The Home Hospital Care program has been a game changer for our post-surgical foregut patients,” said Dr. Samy Maklad, General Surgeon. “With access to high-quality care and personalized attention from the comfort of their own homes, patients can recover faster from surgery, all while enjoying the peace of mind that comes with being under the care of our expert Home Hospital Care medical team. This innovative program represents the future of healthcare, and I am proud to offer it to my post-surgery patients.”
The addition of general surgery to Inbound Health’s platform will benefit patients and healthcare providers alike. Patients will have access to facility-level, post-surgical care for a wider range of surgical specialties in the comfort of their home, including bariatrics, and hernia, while healthcare providers can streamline their processes and improve quality and efficiency.
“Hospital capacity is a challenge for most health systems. Hospital-at-home and skilled nursing-at-home offer creative solutions to increase available hospital beds, improve clinical outcomes, and delight patients all at the same time. The home is also the safest place to receive care, as older adults benefit from lower rates of infection, falls, and delirium.” said Julia Crist, Inbound Health COO.
“Home Hospital Care, in partnership with Inbound Health, is a wonderful program for Allina Health,” said Dr. Bishoy Gad, Orthopedic Surgeon. “It has allowed us to transition more care to home which allowed us to continue to provide excellent care during the pandemic. It will continue to allow us to provide outstanding care for both acute and chronic issues that can be safely managed in the home, and has helped hospital systems manage capacity in the context of labor shortages. This program has allowed us to create an environment where some of our orthopedic total joint surgeons have transitioned up to 60% of their practice to ambulatory surgery centers, whereas in the past it was less than 5%. Home Hospital Care has been a game changer!”
