In a Critical Year for Safety, AdventHealth is Rated Safest Network in Tampa Bay

“Every day, our teams make patient safety a top priority and our commitment to delivering the highest quality care is a core part of our values,” said Mike Schultz, President and CEO of AdventHealth West Florida Division.

AdventHealth West Florida Division has once again earned the highest marks possible for patient safety and quality. It is the only health care system in the Greater Tampa Bay area to achieve all A’s from the prestigious Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit health care ratings organization.

“Every day, our teams make patient safety a top priority and our commitment to delivering the highest quality care is a core part of our values,” said Mike Schultz, President and CEO of AdventHealth West Florida Division. “We are focused on keeping our patients safe at all times while they are in our care and our ability to maintain that level of safety during a pandemic only reinforces the commitment and the expertise of our care teams.”

AdventHealth North Pinellas, AdventHealth Sebring, and AdventHealth Zephyrhills were also recognized as Top General Hospitals. AdventHealth Tampa received the Top Teaching Hospital designation and AdventHealth Wauchula earned the Top Rural Hospital designation. Only 105 of more than 2,200 hospitals reviewed were selected to receive the Top Hospitals distinction, which means they are in the top five percent across the country.

The Top Hospital designation is bestowed by The Leapfrog Group, a national non-profit watchdog organization driving a movement for quality and safety of American health care. It is widely acknowledged for setting the toughest standards for health care safety and quality.

All participating hospitals in the AdventHealth West Florida Division also received an ‘A’ or ‘B’ in patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, including:

  • AdventHealth Carrollwood – 11th consecutive ‘A’
  • AdventHealth Dade City – 1st ‘A’ (hospital acquired in April 2018)
  • AdventHealth Lake Placid – ‘B’
  • AdventHealth North Pinellas – 15th consecutive ‘A’
  • AdventHealth Ocala – ‘B’ (hospital acquired in August 2018)
  • AdventHealth Sebring – 6th consecutive ‘A’
  • AdventHealth Tampa – 6th consecutive ‘A’
  • AdventHealth Wesley Chapel – 11th consecutive ‘A’
  • AdventHealth Zephyrhills – 6th consecutive ‘A’

“These scores are reflective of our team’s commitment to consistently deliver the safest and highest quality of care possible to the communities we serve each and every day,” said Dr. Robin McGuinness, Senior Executive Officer of Patient Outcomes, AdventHealth West Florida Division.

The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. It is based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.
