Criminal defense attorney Mark Thiessen of Thiessen Law Firm has been named a Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters for the seventh consecutive year. With this achievement, Thiessen now ranks among the top 100 Super Lawyers in the state of Texas — making him one of only two criminal defense attorneys to have attained this rare honor.

To be named a Super Lawyer indicates that Thiessen has excelled in multiple areas of the legal profession. Thiessen passed Thomson Reuters’s patented 12-factor evaluation process — a feat accomplished by only five percent of Texas attorneys who apply. His high-profile wins on complicated cases, such as those involving intoxication manslaughter charges, earned him nominations from his esteemed peers. Thiessen has also received his board certification in criminal defense from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, another prestigious designation in its own right, and earned a Lawyer-Scientist distinction from the American Chemical Society, the highest scientific rank in the nation that a lawyer can obtain.
Thiessen received his first Super Lawyer award in 2013 when he was 35. Prior to that point, Thiessen had earned the Thomson Reuters Rising Star award three years in a row. Only 2.5 percent of applying attorneys in each state are eligible to be distinguished as a Rising Star, and Thiessen won each year he was nominated. Thiessen also ranked in Houston’s Top 100 Lawyers in both 2017 and 2018.
