As part of its commitment to educating healthcare professionals and serving communities, the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation has made a $25,000 endowment to the nursing program at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan.
The established “Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation Endowed Nursing Scholarship” will be awarded to Lansing Community College nursing students based upon character, academic ability, and financial need.
“Heart to Heart Hospice is thankful to our nursing heroes who provide compassionate care to patients and support their families through the end-of-life journey,” said Lynn Jones, Regional Vice President of Operations for Heart to Heart Hospice of Detroit. “Our Foundation is honored to present this scholarship knowing that it will assist future nursing heroes,” she added.
Stacy Sturgeon, Executive Director of Heart to Heart Hospice in Lansing, echoed this sentiment, saying she is honored to serve Lansing-area patients and is excited to help support the next generation of nurses. “As a local resident, a Registered Nurse, and a community college graduate, it is encouraging to see local businesses investing in the future of the greater Lansing area,” she said, “and it is fulfilling for me to be a part of that.”
“As the need for hospice grows in Michigan, we see an increasing need for highly trained, talented, and compassionate nurses,” stated Cathy Zell, Executive Director of Lansing Community College Foundation, “and this scholarship will help us train more nurses.”
Ms. Zell also emphasized that “students who receive scholarships are more likely to succeed in and outside the classroom.”
The Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation endowment is made available through the foundation’s Education and Scholarship program – one of its unique programs designed to reach those in the community by providing greater care, greater education, and a commitment to celebrate life.
“We believe that the greatest impact we have is through the ripple effect of education,” said Kelly Mitchell, CEO and Founder of Heart to Heart Hospice and President of Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation. “By training compassionate caregivers today, we are creating a brighter tomorrow. We are pleased to be a part of the respected nursing program at Lansing Community College.”
