“Having experienced the emotional stress medical bills can cause myself as an ER patient in 2016, I founded RexPay to alleviate medical billing mayhem for patients and providers. I’m honored our team is able to serve those currently impacted by this crisis.” – Rachel Mertensmeyer, CEO of RexPay

Healthcare providers are facing a slew of new challenges in the face of COVID-19. Cancelled elective visits and procedures have resulted in severe decreases in cash flow. Staffing shortages due to revenue-related layoffs or illness mean that remaining staff are stretched thin. Not only do staff need to respond to anxious patients calling with questions, they’re also handling remaining in-person appointments and enacting safety measures amidst rapidly changing guidelines, all without enough personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep them safe.
To help alleviate the increasing burdens healthcare providers are facing, RexPay is offering their medical billing app for free to all providers and their patients. To assist in boosting cash flow, RexPay helps providers collect on existing unpaid medical bills by offering a mobile healthcare wallet where patients can pay and organize bills from any healthcare provider. For in-person appointments, providers can also get paid through the app. This reduces the risk of cross-contamination by payment cards and lowers call volume by allowing patients to pay on the app instead of by phone. The RexPay app also answers common COVID-19 and medical billing questions to further reduce the influx of calls that remaining front office staff have to handle.
For practices that are Athena-based, RexPay recently partnered with athenahealth, Inc. through athenahealth’s Marketplace program. These practices can avoid the paper billing process entirely and deliver bills digitally within the RexPay app. They can also offer automatic payment plans to not only help patients who may be facing unexpected financial hardship due to the economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, but to help with their cash flow as well. RexPay is offering this integrated service at no cost through June 1st (with steeply reduced rates after).
To encourage patients with outstanding medical bills to stay at home instead of going to the post office, RexPay is waiving all patient fees for 30 days with the code STAYSAFE. Patients can pay any doctor with their HSA, checking account, or any other payment card. Download RexPay for free in Google Play or the App Store.
