Health Affairs’ Journal Impact Factor Rises To 9.048 And Rank Is No. 1

Health Affairs’ continued leadership in the field of health policy is validated by its highest-ever Journal Impact Factor of 9.048, according to the recently released Journal Citation Reports® (JCR) 2022 from Clarivate. This is a 44 percent increase from Health Affairs’ 2021 Journal Impact Factor. The journal also earned the No. 1 ranking in the Health Policy And Services category, ahead of 87 other journals in the field.

According to Alan Weil, Health Affairs’ Editor-In-Chief, the journal’s ground-breaking empirical studies about different aspects of COVID-19 were a significant contributor to the increase in citations. The topics these studies covered included how social distancing and local masking ordinances reduced COVID-19 cases; racial and ethnic disparities in COVID-19 health risks; how COVID-19 affected US hospital admissions; and potential health care costs and resources associated with COVID-19.

“We are pleased that our journal impact factor has risen dramatically for the second consecutive year,” said Weil. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, the high-quality, policy-relevant research of our authors, the outstanding efforts of our peer reviewers, and the hard work by our staff allowed us to quickly publish timely and important research. Thanks to all those efforts, Health Affairs continues to expand its reach and influence, in the United States and around the world.”
