Give2Asia launches international campaign to fund coronavirus fight in China, raises $1 million in first 48 hours

Resources are stretched thin during a crisis of this magnitude, and we encourage our global community of philanthropists to engage in this effort.

Give2Asia, a US-based international philanthropy nonprofit, announced the launch of a fundraising campaign to fight the coronavirus outbreak. Corporate and individual donors pledged a combined US$1,000,000 in the first 48 hours of the campaign.

Donations will provide protective equipment, food, shelter, and training for frontline health workers in China.

“Give2Asia is honored to offer donors in the US and Hong Kong SAR PRC an opportunity to support the health workers and hospitals responding to the coronavirus crisis,” said Birger Stamperdahl, President and CEO of Give2Asia. “Resources are stretched thin during a crisis of this magnitude, and we encourage our global community of philanthropists to engage in this effort.”

To deliver services in China, Give2Asia is partnering with trusted Chinese nonprofits, including the Chinese Red Cross Foundation—one of the nation’s highest rated NGOs—and the Hubei Red Cross Foundation, which operates in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.

“We are grateful to regulators for affirming our efforts to respond quickly,” said Carol Yang, Give2Asia’s Chief China Representative. “Our Beijing team will closely monitor the implementation of all projects we manage to steward donor funds.”

Give2Asia has received special permission from Chinese authorities to raise expedited funds for the coronavirus outbreak response. As one of the few international organizations registered to operate under China’s Overseas NGO law, Give2Asia is uniquely positioned to rapidly deliver aid where it can have the greatest impact.
