Gardant Management Solutions, Inc., recently joined with assisted living and nursing home providers from around the United States for the 2023 American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living Congressional Briefing in Washington, D.C.

The purpose was to advocate for assisted living communities and nursing homes with U.S. Senators and Representatives and their staffs.

Gardant Co-President Julie Simpkins, and Rick Banas, Vice President of Development and Positioning, teamed up with the delegation from Indiana, and Alexandra Shuell, Vice President of Operations; Gregory Douglas, Vice President of Development and Advocacy; and Stephen Woods, Regional Director of Operations, with the delegation from Illinois.

They talked about the need to support workforce development programs and the negative impact that proposed Centers for Medicare and Medicaid staffing and Home and Community-Based Services requirements would have on providers.

They also expressed support for the proposed legislation in the House and Senate in regard to expanding long-term care options for veterans.

The bills, H.R. 1815/S 495, would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to implement a pilot program to assess the effectiveness of providing assisted living service to eligible veterans.

They urged Senators and Representatives to support the bi-partisan legislation and sign-on as co-sponsors.

Also mentioned was the 12st Century Long-Term Care Caucus in the House of Representatives. The purpose of the caucus is to develop solutions that would strengthen long-term care, enhance the quality of care, and ensure individuals and their families have the support they need.
