“I love coaching, it is my greatest passion. Hosting camps for kids is an honor and a privilege, it’s my way of paying it forward to all the great coaches who invested in me when I was coming up.” – Kellen Clemens

The Foundation Football Camp, offered by Coeur du Christ Academy, was the perfect opportunity for young athletes to not only learn about and play the game, but also to help showcase the newly opened Marimn Health Coeur Center in Worley, Idaho.

Coeur du Christ Academy is a private high school in the Catholic tradition, based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, whose mission is to form the next generation of Saints, Scholars and Servants with Christ at the heart of everything.

As a former NFL quarterback and current Chairman of the Board and Athletic Director for Coeur du Christ Academy, it’s clear that Kellen Clemens is truly passionate about sharing the game of football with the next generation of athletes. “I love coaching, it is my greatest passion. Hosting camps for kids is an honor and a privilege, it’s my way of paying it forward to all the great coaches who invested in me when I was coming up.”

Mr. Clemens takes pride in helping mold these young individuals into the leaders of tomorrow. “In the same way that any athlete must play with a good base, a good foundation – we encouraged the athletes to take that same approach to the rest of their lives. We shared with the athletes at camp that things like integrity, hard work and discipline were foundations that they could stand on long after their athletic careers are over.” In addition, Mr. Clemens leans heavily on the teachings of Saint John Paul II, who said, “sports contribute to the love of life, teaches sacrifice, respect and responsibility, leading to the full development of every human person.”

The school and its sports programs are closely tied within the community, with the camp taking place on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation. Mr. Clemens expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the connection between those who have a shared love for the sport, and who helped make the camp as successful as it was. “I had a chance to meet Chief Allan, Chairman of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, a couple of times leading up to camp. He has a great appreciation for athletics and how the lessons learned through sports can translate to real life. We had a shared vision about the goal of the camp, so it was a great pleasure to work with him and bring this to fruition.”

In addition, Mr. Clemens and Chairman Allan wanted to come together and celebrate the newly renovated Marimn Health Center; a comprehensive institution dedicated to the improvement and preservation of the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Reservation community. Key features of the Marimn Health Center include the Coeur Center Complex, hosting state-of-the-art sports fields and facilities, in addition to the Health and Wellness Centers which offer modern and comprehensive medical resources to the area.

There were numerous others who recognized the importance of this camp, and volunteered time to help in the development of these young athletes. One person in particular was Mike Price, whose legendary collegiate football coaching career has garnered him respect throughout the nation. Mr. Price spent time with the athletes teaching the fundamentals of the game and shared his years of knowledge and experience to help them improve their play. Mr. Clemens also wanted to recognize all the high school coaches and current college athletes who came and made the camp as successful as it was. “The camp was a great success, but it wouldn’t have happened without all these great people generously volunteering their time.”

As a provider of custom apparel for the camp, gearUP was proud to play a small part in helping expand the influence of youth sports and benefiting the health and wellbeing of those in the Coeur d’Alene community. Joe Monahan (VP of Sales and Marketing at gearUP) stated, “We couldn’t be happier to play a small role in the success of this camp. Helping young athletes learn and grow is in our DNA. We look forward to our continued partnership with Kellen and Coeur du Christ Academy.”
