Access to our pain-care providers is no longer as carefree as it was pre-pandemic, making the shift toward better pain-coping more important now than ever before. In fact, according to AMA’s Advocacy Resource Center July report, opioid related mortality in more than 35 states is up during COVID19.
In her newly released TEDx talk –”Transform your relationship to pain for a better future” – Liou takes us along on her personal and professional path of discovery. It’s a revelation that has the potential to change the face of pain care nationwide.
There is a 5-step strategy that has been hiding in plain sight and is shown to improve coping and resilience. Based on emerging neuroscience, we now know that this 5-step process can be an essential tool in transforming our relationship to pain.
Liou’s synthesis of the science helps to explain the reason that pain-experiences are not exclusively the result of triggers like posture, inflammation or stress in the way that we think. “Context, language and conversation are an undervalued but vital element to shaping and re-shaping our pain-experiences,” Liou explains.
