Floreo Announces New Research Partnership for ADHD Virtual Reality Cognitive Therapy with the National Human Genome Research Institute

Floreo Inc., a leading science-backed virtual reality platform for teaching social, communication, and life skills for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), today announced it has entered into a collaborative research and development agreement (CRADA) with the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Under the CRADA, Floreo and NHGRI will jointly develop and pilot immersive virtual reality (VR) modules focused on improving cognitive deficits frequently implicated in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Floreo’s patented virtual reality application currently provides immersive and engaging therapy to help individuals with ASD or other social and communication skill deficits build real world skills. Floreo is currently being used by schools, therapy practices and parents. Floreo’s ongoing research includes a National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) Small Business Technology Transfer research grant to study the effect of VR law enforcement encounter training on police interaction skills in adolescents and adults with autism, in collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Autism Research.

Phillip Shaw, Ph.D., from NHGRI will be the lead investigator along with Floreo’s Medical Director, Sinan Turnicioglu, MD. Dr. Shaw focuses on genomic and neural features underlying ADHD in children and adults.
