Filmmakers Look To Make an Emotional Impact With “Running the Bases”

“It’s truly a motivational film,” the directors noted. “But also one with a lot of heart. And it really brings in the focus of just how important Christianity is to many people.”

With the number of Christian believers shrinking in America, writer/directors Jimmy Womble and Marty Roberts have opted to create a film that discusses how one good pitch can change the momentum for everything – Running the Bases.

Starring Brett Varvel, Gigi Orsillo and Todd Terry, the film deals with Christian values with its dramatic storytelling. It deals with a high school baseball coach who conflicts with the school superintendent after introducing his son to Christianity. Upon learning of a congenital heart defect that killed his brother, the boy, Luke, believes his career of being a professional baseball catcher is at an end.

With that, Luke is able to find a new calling in coaching baseball. Twenty years following his high school days, he moves to Texas to coach for a much larger high school, but faces even more conflict when another superintendent begins questioning public expression of Christianity.

Roberts and Womble noted that God was calling them to make this movie, despite not having any previous experience within the industry. But as a result, they believe they have produced a film that provides hope, comedy and a message, especially to those that need one nowadays.

“It’s truly a motivational film,” the directors noted. “But also one with a lot of heart. And it really brings in the focus of just how important Christianity is to many people.”
