The Affordable Care Act: Intended Parent Questions Answered is a free on-demand webinar designed to help navigate hopeful moms and dads understand what to expect when using an ACA insurance plan for their surrogacy journey.

It is cohosted by the founder and president of International Fertility Insurance, Jason Smith, a regular speaker on surrogacy-related options and services, and a former IP himself. Osborne says that the concept of maternity insurance can be challenging for IPs, and many don’t know where to start.

“I speak with a lot of intended parents who are confused about what insurance options are available for their surrogate,” he says. “With open enrollment just around the corner, it’s important to understand what your options are for maternity coverage if you are considering pursuing a surrogacy journey this year.”

Over the half-hour session, Osborne and Smith introduce parents to the ACA and answer common questions. They explain why the Affordable Care Act is the most cost-effective option and the various advantages and disadvantages in relation to a surrogacy journey.

Smith gives examples of nuances within ACA in terms of exclusion, caps, deductibles, and copays, and how these contributed to the overall costs of a surrogacy arrangement. He also reminded IPs that insurance criteria and policy dates can vary between states and countries.

Intended Parents should know that the right insurance plan is crucial. Understandably, many IPs are eager to find an affordable maternity insurance solution. Purchasing an ACA insurance plan is one of the most cost-effective ways of providing surrogate maternity coverage throughout the year, especially if you’re considering a multiple-embryo transfer.
