CORRECTION: The Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation (GRI) today announced two significant partnerships that will help drive philanthropic support to community-based organizations providing recovery services for people with substance use disorder (SUD). Early recovery, which typically lasts one to two years, is the longest yet least funded aspect of recovery from drug and alcohol use and reuse.
The Better Noise Music Company partnership is mobilizing leaders in the music industry to raise funds and break the stigma around SUD through a series of pop culture events.
Fors Marsh Group (FMG) is providing seed funding and up to $1 million of in-kind research and communication services to identify and promote recovery effectiveness measures and to increase philanthropic leaders’ understanding of the need to invest in recovery services. FMG is a leading provider of behavioral research and strategy services in the federal, health, and nonprofit markets.
“Once again, Better Noise is taking a leadership role in their industry by developing a creative way to address one of the most pressing issues in America today: substance use disorder, which affects millions of individuals, families, communities and employers,” said GRI Executive Director Cathie Hartnett. “In addition, Fors Marsh Group is making it possible for GRI to leverage its health research, behavioral insights, and program evaluation methods to encourage philanthropic leaders to invest in building the infrastructure of nonprofits providing recovery services.”
Better Noise CEO Allen Kovac added, “Nikki Sixx and our company are pleased to partner with the Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation to leverage a financial investment in entertainment that will help grassroots organizations provide services to sustain recovery where people live and work. As a result, we will bring together leaders from the philanthropic and pop culture sectors—along with our corporate partners—using film, music, and theater to break stigma and raise funds.”
FMG CEO Ben Garthwaite said, “FMG saw the lack of investment by both the public and private sectors in the phase of recovery that most impacts a person’s successful integration back into their professional workplace and personal household. GRI is the first philanthropic community foundation to engage donors in recovery services and build a philanthropic model for both institutional and individual philanthropy.”
