This can make a huge dent in their wallet, especially if they have deferred treatment for ages,” Dr Gerald Tan quips.

SmileMate, an online dental assessment tool that employs AI to analyze a person’s dental and oral condition, will be employed by the clinic to guide patients interested in doing a simple check-in to achieve optimal dental care. The tool is able to remotely assess the patient’s dental condition, raise awareness of potential dental issues and to suggest a visit to the dental clinic to address those issues if required – at no cost.

Besides the cost accessibility, using SmileMate also offers the convenience and accessibility of seeking for a consultation with a dentist. The tool creates possible treatment next steps for the patient and highlights pressing concerns.

A Patient Experience Specialist is then assigned to each patient to ensure that they have the support they require – from dental and oral health related enquiries to appointment bookings to aftercare.

With a grin, Dr Gerald muses “It is really not just about helping you spend less, but bringing our dental practice and dental education and awareness to everyone – short of actually appearing in front of your door.”

Dr Jaclyn Toh, an associate dentist at Elite Dental Group, says that she hopes dental tools such as SmileMate can reduce inertia to seek treatment before it is too late. “Listening to our patients is at the heart of what we do, and this tool was introduced because of feedback that going for consultations can be costly or inconvenient. Listening is everything.”
