Medical Teams International, a non-profit medical organization that provides mobile dental clinics to veterans, the elderly, and the homeless, announces their need for more dental professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. The non-profit, which opened in 1979, started its volunteer search months before the start of the pandemic. However, within the last ten months the pandemic has put an unprecedented strain on the American healthcare system, increasing the need for more medical professionals within hospitals and volunteer organizations. One volunteer, Dr. Trisha Goldsby, who has volunteered for Medical Teams International for more than five years, is now helping the organization spread the word on its need for more volunteers.
“We are currently accepting new volunteers at Medical Teams International. Throughout the pandemic, we have seen an influx in the number of patients needing dental care. However, due to CDC guidelines and our social distancing policy, we can only help one patient at a time. Those with experience as a dental hygienist, dental assistant, and dentist are highly encouraged to apply.” – Dr. Trisha Goldsby DDS
Medical Teams International has taken measures to ensure both staff and patients’ safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. The non-profit requires all medical staff to wear masks, face shields, shoe coverings, glasses, hair bonnets, and gloves while working with patients and that staff follows CDC cleaning guidelines to ensure no transmission between patients. Before entering the mobile dental clinic, all patients are required to complete a pre-screening that will check for symptoms of COVID-19. To ensure safety standards are being met, Medical Teams International requires all potential volunteers to adhere to both CDC and company guidelines.
Since leaving her practice to focus on volunteer work, Dr. Trisha Goldsby has helped hundreds of veterans by providing extractions, fillings, basic cleanings, dental exams, and emergency dental work. A veteran herself, Dr. Trisha Goldsby, believes volunteering at Medical Teams International has been the most rewarding experience of her career and encourages other dentists looking for fulfilling volunteer work to apply on the company’s website.
