Dr. Tom Wallace Pioneers Telemedicine at Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California

Each day, I’m able to wake up and be of service to a community that desperately needs our help,

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, at 89-years-young, Dr. Wallace became one of the first physicians at the Order of Malta Clinic to learn an entirely new electronic health records (EHR) system. The Clinic’s transition to EHR allowed him to treat patients safely by utilizing telemedicine without the risk of viral transmission. As he approaches his 90th birthday on August 27th, the Clinic has launched a virtual campaign to celebrate his special day and dedication to treating the vulnerable population of the Greater Bay Area.

“Each day, I’m able to wake up and be of service to a community that desperately needs our help,” Dr. Wallace said. “I’m honored to be a part of the Clinic, and I’m grateful my faith has led me to where I can provide so many individuals with the love and care they deserve.” He continued, “Having a fundraiser in my name is a humbling experience, and I’m appreciative of the positive impact it will have on our patients.”

Order of Malta Clinic’s 30-day virtual campaign pays homage to the nurturing leader and volunteer with a simple birthday wish – help me help more in need. Since 2014, Dr. Wallace has impacted the lives of over 1,000 patients since joining the Clinic. As telemedicine creates a virtual bridge between him and Bay Area residents, the proceeds of the fundraiser will further support the enhancement of telehealth services and Clinic operations, providing patients with even greater access to care efficiently and economically.

“His good nature and selflessness is a constant reminder that no matter what, we are here to help people,” said Order of Malta Clinic board member Dr. Michael Matly. “When you have someone like Dr. Wallace in your life, it encourages you to do your absolute best to move forward with compassion,” he concluded.

On August 27th, the birthday event will feature a live zoom call with a special thank you to all who would like to show their support and wish Dr. Wallace a happy 90 years. In honor of Dr. Tom Wallace’s exceptional commitment, the Clinic has set an ambitious goal to raise $90,000 through the virtual campaign.
