Dr. Kushal Bhakta, a leading neonatologist, has been appointed to the Clinical and Scientific Advisory Board (CSAB) of LactaLogics, a company focused on human milk-based nutrition for at-risk infants.
Dr. Bhakta is currently a practicing neonatologist and Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in Orange, California. Previously he served as Medical Director of the Neurocritical NICU and the Small Baby Unit/Extremely Low Birth Weight Program, also at CHOC. A passionate physician educator, he is an Associate Clinical Professor at the UC Irvine School of Medicine.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Bhakta to LactaLogics. He is a highly respected physician in the field of neonatology and has strong convictions for the use of breast milk in the NICU and beyond,” said Glenn Snow, CEO and co-founder of LactaLogics. “As LactaLogics seeks to bring more human milk to babies, Dr. Bhakta’s deep understanding of neonatal care will help our efforts in supporting families in the hospital, as they transition home, and in meeting moms’ breastfeeding goals.”
“I have long admired Dr. Bhakta’s approach while caring for the tiniest premature babies. While visiting the CHOC NICU, I observed firsthand his pioneering clinical strategies and now try to incorporate many of them into my practice,” shared Dr. William Rhine, Chairman of the CSAB. “Dr. Bhakta is a great addition to the board. His ability to solve difficult problems, often in innovative ways, will be crucial as we strive to improve the nutrition of vulnerable newborns.”
“Neonatology has come so far in the successful care of infants, but we must continue to improve patient outcomes, seeking to improve upon what we already know while pursuing what we don’t,” shared Dr. Bhakta. “Infant nutrition is a foundational part of that journey and I am delighted to be working with LactaLogics, a team committed to delivering the best care for patients. Together we carry a large responsibility, giving these babies our best, working alongside mom, dad, and their entire family.”
After attending Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Bhakta received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency and neonatal-perinatal fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. He received his Executive MBA from University of Southern California Marshall School of Business and is board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine.
