Harvey V. Fineberg, MD, PhD, chair of the National Academies’ Standing Committee on Emerging Infectious Diseases and 21st Century Health Threats, will present “Public Policy Decision-making During the COVID-19 Pandemic” during a special session at the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology 2020 Virtual Scientific Session.
ASNC2020 will include more than 40 sessions delivered in a variety of formats between Sept. 9 and Oct. 7. The ASNC2020 virtual live program will convene Sept. 25-26.
Dr. Fineberg coauthored, The Epidemic That Never Was: Policy-Making and the Swine Flu Scare. He is president of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and board chair of the Science Philanthropy Alliance. He previously served as president of the Institute of Medicine, provost of Harvard University, and Dean of the Harvard Chan School of Public Health.
Dr. Fineberg will deliver his keynote during the ASNC2020 session “COVID-19: Public Policy Update and Best Practices for Nuclear Cardiology” on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 AM (ET). This session is among several at ASNC2020 addressing cardiovascular care during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
“Quality patient care has always been the first and foremost priority for ASNC members,” says Sharmila Dorbala, MD, MPH, FASNC, ASNC president and director of nuclear cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. “Since the onset of the pandemic, ASNC has made a concerted effort to assemble the latest information and recommendations to help the nuclear cardiology community address the challenges of providing patient care in these unprecedented circumstances. ASNC2020 will provide a forum to share this information and engage in thoughtful discourse with attendees.”
ASNC2020 will deliver the latest updates across the fields of nuclear cardiology and molecular imaging with a focus on “Using Technology to Improve Patient Care.”
“We have a vision for ASNC2020,” says Terrence Ruddy, MD, FASNC, chair of the ASNC2020 Program Committee and director of nuclear cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. “We’ll show you how technology can improve your practice. Nuclear Cardiology and PET are digital technologies. If we were standardized a bit more and aware of all the available technology, we could do much more.”
Dr. Ruddy and Co-chair Piotr Slomka, PhD, of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have assembled a robust program that delivers on this theme highlighted by these sessions:
COVID-19 and CT Imaging
Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 12:00pm – 1:00pm (ET)
Featuring “COVID-19 Pneumonitis and CT,” presented by H. Henry Guo, MD, PhD, clinical associate professor of radiology at Stanford University.
Cardiac Applications of Artificial Intelligence Approaches in Wearable Devices
Friday, September 25, 2020 2:00pm – 3:00pm (ET)
Featuring “Watch App Identifies Clinically Important Arrhythmias Other Than Atrial Fibrillation” presented by Mintu Turakhia, MD, MAS, associate professor of medicine at Stanford University; director of the Stanford Center for Digital Health; and director of electrophysiology at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System.
Mario Verani Lecture and Keynote Presentation
Friday, September 25, 2020 5:00pm – 6:30pm (ET)
Featuring keynote “Clinical Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Nuclear Cardiology,” presented by Ernest V. Garcia, PhD, MASNC, professor of radiology at Emory University School of Medicine.
Featuring Verani Lecture “The Evolving Role of Nuclear Cardiology in CAD Management in the Era of Multimodality Imaging,” presented by Marcelo Di Carli, MD, MASNC. Dr. Di Carli is chief of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging and director of the cardiovascular imaging program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and professor of radiology and medicine at Harvard Medical School.
ASNC2020 will also feature, “Diversity and Inclusion in Clinical Nuclear Cardiology – A Case-Based Ethics Session,” moderated by Ola (Olakunle) Akinboboye, MD, MBA, FACC, MPH, FACP, chairman of the Cardiovascular Disease Board at American Board of Internal Medicine and Andrew J. Einstein, MD, PhD, associate professor at Columbia University Medical Center. This will be a joint session with the Association of Black Cardiologists on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm (ET).
ASNC2020 sessions will be delivered in a variety of session formats, including virtual live and pre-recorded on-demand.
