After more than 17 years of distinguished leadership and service to CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, President & CEO Thomas G. Bognanno announced he will be retiring from full-time responsibilities in 2023. Following his decision, the CHC Board of Directors today announced the search for a new President & CEO. Bognanno has committed to serve until a replacement is identified as well as support the transition process.
“Tom has been an exceptional leader and friend,” said Board Chair Adam Rothschild. “In his almost two decades of service, Tom has transformed the organization, expanded funding channels and set CHC on a path of continued growth and increased community impact. While finding a successor who can match his dedication, compassion and unwavering advocacy for our mission will be no small feat, we are confident that we will find the right candidate to fill this key role. CHC is an amazing organization with a talented team and a vital purpose. For the right person, this is a dream opportunity.”
The advance notice Bognanno provided regarding his planned retirement and deliberate succession planning process provide CHC with ample time to recruit strong candidates and identify a new executive leader while continuing to execute established growth plans, pursue opportunities and maintain stability and continuity within the organization.
“Leading CHC has truly been one of those situations where I received far more than I gave,” said Bognanno. “This capstone to my 40-year nonprofit career has been an incredible blessing. I dedicated my professional life to affecting social change and advancing health for all people, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve accomplished at CHC and the bright future ahead.”
The candidate search will be extensive, and the position will be posted broadly. Diversity, equity and inclusion are core values at CHC, and all candidates are encouraged to apply. View the position description, or visit CHC’s careers page.
Candidates will be screened and interviewed this summer and into the fall, and the board search committee has retained the services of an independent recruitment consultant. The board plans to announce the new CHC President & CEO by January 2023.
“CHC is in an excellent position to successfully manage this transition. We are financially strong, leadership is outstanding, and our network is extensive,” said Rothschild “That is largely attributable to Tom’s steady guidance over the years, advancing our mission and increasing our ability to positively impact communities.”
The board search committee, led by former Board Chair Kevin Clayton, senior vice president and head of social impact and equity for the Cleveland Cavaliers, will keep stakeholders apprised of the search process.
