Cone Health Extends its RelayOne Deployment for an Additional Five Years

RelayOne (http://www.RelayOne.com), a leading surgical care team collaboration and coordination solution provider, today announced that Cone Health, a not-for-profit health care network with four hospitals and three outpatient surgery centers that serves the citizens of Greensboro, N.C. and its surrounding counties, has extended its use of RelayOne’s platform for five more years. Cone Health first deployed RelayOne’s platform in 2020 so that its surgical care teams could see updates to their schedules, understand case readiness, and track case progress to make the best in-the-moment decisions about operational performance and staffing.

In May 2022, Cone Health surveyed its hospital administrators, surgical coordinators, nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and others to learn more about their use of RelayOne. Among the survey response findings, Cone Health learned that its users saved an average of 37 minutes and more than 14 calls/texts/emails per day, per person. Across its entire user base, RelayOne saves Cone Health approximately 265 hours per day, which results in millions of dollars of labor efficiency gains each year. And with a high satisfaction rate, 95% of Cone Health users surveyed would recommend RelayOne to a colleague.

“The administrators, surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and others who are on, or support, our surgical care teams are always on the move, and so is the surgical schedule,” said Wayne McFatter, RN, MSN, CNOR, Co-Director of Perioperative Services for Cone Health. “So much of the operations of surgical services requires real-time information to make the best and most timely decisions. Staffing, case readiness, and changes to schedules all require that the right people get the right information and updates, right as they happen, right where they are. With RelayOne we can appropriately adjust and try to fine-tune our staffing by paying close attention to, and then acting on, the real-time notifications of OR facility changes, cancellations, case timing, and more.”

“RelayOne really helps us to keep up with what’s going on in our operating rooms, and helps us to improve OR utilization with their drill-down dashboards that give us a simple, snapshot look at all our trends,” said Sharon McCarter, RN, BSN, CNOR, MHA, Co-Director of Perioperative Services for Cone Health. “With RelayOne we can click one button on our phone and see our up-to-the-minute case count, after hours cases, productivity for the day, utilization for the day, and turnover times. And we can also look back at the days before and see how we did then, too. Ultimately, RelayOne helps us to minimize unnecessary surgery delays and cancellations, reduce staff frustrations, and smooth out our operations overall.”

“Coordinating the surgery schedule can often be a complex and dynamic process that hospital and operating room leaders face every day,” said Cam Sexton, CEO of RelayOne. “Many hospitals are still using outdated methods to coordinate schedules and changes with their surgical care team members. Our real-time, mobile platform makes it easy to proactively keep the entire surgical care team up-to-date on the latest updates, in and out, to and from, the operating room. We thank Cone Health for trusting us, and partnering with us for another five years, to help them to optimize their OR utilization, staffing and scheduling with our platform.”

Today, more hospitals and health systems are seeking new and innovative technology solutions to help surgical team members stay better connected and create a more efficient surgical operation.

The RelayOne platform delivers intuitive surgical collaboration, coordination and analytics that enable the surgical care team to easily and instantly access PHI-free surgical scheduling and case progress update information from anywhere, at any time.

RelayOne is easily integrated into the surgical care team workflow and EHR. Hospitals can go live on RelayOne in as little as four weeks and user onboarding and training takes just a few minutes.
