CommunityMed Offering Groundbreaking Rapid PCR COVID-19 Test

COVID testing is crucial to helping our communities right now, and rapid PCR tests will be a game-changer. It’s filling a critical gap for those who need a guaranteed result within a certain timeframe to fly, return to work or school, or have surgery.

CommunityMed Family Urgent Care, a locally owned and operated healthcare provider, has added the revolutionary rapid PCR test to its COVID-19 testing toolkit, which already included PCR, rapid antigen and blood antibody tests.

Operating with the new Cepheid Xpert Xpress SARS-CoV-2 machine, the rapid PCR test combines the accurate, reliable technology of a traditional COVID-19 PCR test with the speed of point-of-care tests done on site as opposed to in a lab. The rapid PCR also tests for flu A and B as well as respiratory syncytial (RSV) in children from the same swab, eliminating the need to obtain multiple samples. The rapid PCR test is done with a nasal swab. The test, along with all COVID-19 tests at CommunityMed clinics, is authorized by the FDA.

“We pride ourselves on being on the leading edge of technology,” said Birken Olson, the CEO of CommunityMed. “COVID testing is crucial to helping our communities right now, and rapid PCR tests will be a game-changer. It’s filling a critical gap for those who need a guaranteed result within a certain timeframe to fly, return to work or school, or have surgery.”

Currently five CommunityMed locations offer same-day PCR testing – Arlington, Cross Roads, Lantana, Melissa and Prosper. These clinics provide the rapid PCR test until 6 p.m. every day to ensure that people get their results before closing. COVID testing is by appointment only. The healthcare provider has plans to expand rapid PCR testing to all locations quickly.

Anybody – even those without COVID-19 symptoms – can request a test at CommunityMed locations. Patients that receive the rapid PCR or rapid antigen test will receive written documentation of their results on CommunityMed letterhead.

CommunityMed accepts most major insurance providers, including Medicare and Tricare, as well as cash payments. Since insurance coverage of COVID tests is evolving, patients should call their insurance to verify benefits.

Beyond COVID-19 testing, CommunityMed clinics provide urgent care services, which include treating injuries and illnesses that are not grave enough to require emergency room care. Common conditions CommunityMed treats are flu, diarrhea, strep throat, cuts, sprains and rashes. Most clinics also offer occupational medical services, such as physicals and drug screenings.
