Clean the World Foundation, a leader in global health dedicated to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and global sustainability, in partnership with Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS), has selected Conservation International Singapore as a 2021 recipient for the Drop By Drop Project. The Drop by Drop Project, a collaboration between the Clean the World Foundation and Sands, reinvests capital from Sands’ water stewardship savings into innovative projects supporting local water champions in its local regions.
With the award provided by the Drop by Drop Program, Conservation International Singapore will develop a five-part Ocean Conservation Series featuring educational videos, activities, educator guides, and quizzes to raise awareness and interest in ocean conservation issues. These resources will support educators and students ages 7-14 with locally relevant case studies and regional examples to explore lessons and discussions on global ocean issues such as biodiversity, fisheries, protected areas and conservation technology. The series will support educators and parents in raising awareness of the importance of protecting oceans and nature, with ideas for action beginning at home. In addition, the series aims to inspire and empower future generations of Singaporeans to develop an appreciation of marine environments and take action for nature.
“The ocean is the origin and engine of all life on this planet,” said Richard Jeo, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Conservation International Asia-Pacific Field Division. “This virtual learning series will highlight the importance of protecting the ocean for human well-being, using examples of Conservation International’s projects in the region, making it relevant to the Singapore audience. We are honored to be the recipient of this year’s Drop by Drop Project grant and to partner with Sands and Clean the World Foundation in bringing this important topic to a wider audience.”
Development of the Ocean Conservation Series is underway and is focusing on producing high-quality content about ocean education to augment current school curricula. Conservation International Singapore has determined a set of topics for the series through research and consulting with internal experts. Each episode’s content has been created to provide key learning outcomes about topics, building on knowledge gained through school curriculum. Episodes highlight the shared responsibility for protecting the ocean and feature opportunities to delve into deeper learning.
“The work of Conservation International Singapore to increase ocean awareness and engagement among young children will have impact for generations to come,” said Katarina Tesarova, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at Sands. “At a time when in-person activities are limited, this virtual learning series provides a great opportunity to engage students on climate change and ocean health.”
Conservation International has been selected for the grant based on the project’s alignment with the principal priorities of the Drop by Drop Project that include reinvigorating ecosystems by safeguarding and restoring aquatic ecosystems; leveraging technologies to create innovation and water efficiency solutions; increasing resiliency by strengthening community responses to floods, droughts, and water risks; and engaging communities on the vital importance of water.
“What elevated Conservation International Singapore in our selection process was the organization’s comprehensive approach to conservation,” said Shawn Seipler, Chairman of the Board, Clean the World Foundation. “In addition, their use of innovative technology learning tools provides an effective approach to accomplishing student engagement and awareness goals. We saw the organization’s great potential to make lasting impact on ocean protection and climate health by aiming to create young champions.”
