The Beauty of Guts – New Study Looks at People Who Listen to Their “Spidey Sense”

: Listening to your intuition is more than just a protective mechanism. It is also correlated with stronger resilience, higher confidence, and even creativity.

Research shows that listening to your intuition isn’t just about survival. It also boosts your confidence, and fosters both independence and creative thinking.

Gut instinct is based on past knowledge and experience, and on your innate ability to quickly evaluate and process information.

Julia Grant’s female intuition warned her that something would happen if her husband, Ulysses S. Grant, accepted Abraham Lincoln’s invitation to join him at the Ford Theatre on April 14, 1865. Nikola Tesla always listened to his intuition, which he credited as the creative force behind his numerous inventions. There is an abundance of stories of people who avoided danger by listening to their intuition or a “sixth sense,” but according to research from PsychTests, there are other unexpected benefits of listening to our gut instincts. Looking at the personality profiles of people who frequently and implicitly trust their gut, PsychTests’ study reveals that there is a strong connection between listening to our inner voice and other beneficial traits, like confidence, ambition, and resilience.

Evaluating the profiles of 3,205 individuals who took the Big Five Personality Test, researchers at PsychTests compared people who listen to their gut to people who don’t on 34 different traits. Here are some of the noteworthy differences between the two groups:

(Note: Scores range on a scale from 0 to 100. The higher the score, the stronger the trait).

Resilience

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 60
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 47

People who trust their intuition tend to handle hardship better than those who don’t. If our guts can help us avoid certain mishaps, we learn to trust ourselves more, and trust in our ability to handle whatever comes our way.

Ambition

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 75
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 60

Intuitives tend to be much more goal-oriented, and like to set the bar high. This may be because they heed the inner voice that tells them to believe in and to follow their dreams.

Independence

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 64
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 47

Intuitives are less likely to mindlessly follow the crowd, especially if their gut tells them not to do what everyone else is doing. They allow their inner voice to speak louder than the voices around them.

Self-Confidence

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 75
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 37

It takes guts to follow one’s gut, which may be the reason why intuitives are more confident than non-intuitives. The more we allow our own inner guidance to steer us the right way, the more we trust ourselves.

Kindness

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 79
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 69

Tesla believed that “[Each] of us is only part of a whole.” This may be why people who follow their gut tend to be kinder and more amiable. They understand the importance of developing a deep connection with others, and with themselves.

Curiosity

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 71
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 61

A curious mind is much more open to the unknown. Intuitives accept the possibility that there is an indescribable force that guides them, which may also make them inquisitive about other extraordinary phenomena. Curiosity also contributes to thirst for knowledge, so intuitive people are more likely to be life-long learners.

Creativity

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 78
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 59

Tesla wasn’t the only one who allowed his intuition to be his muse. Author Robert Louis Stevenson, Google creator Larry Page, and even Sir Paul McCartney all brought to life amazing creations that came to them in their dreams. By being open to information from sources other than their logical and conscious minds, intuitives seem to be in a better position (or state of mind) to tap into their creativity.

Diligence

  •      Score for the intuitive or “gut” group: 68
  •      Score for the non-intuitive group: 54

Our intuition can often offer warnings about the potential dangers of taking certain actions (or not taking them). This may be why intuitives are much more vigilant and conscientious by nature: When their gut tells that something is wrong, they use caution.

“Researchers are paying much more attention to ‘gut intelligence’ or the ‘secondary brain,’ which is that intrinsic, age-old survival mechanism that has kept us alive for so long,” explains Dr. Jerabek, president of PsychTests. “Your gut communicates with your brain via direct neuropathways that actually light up when intuition is activated. That’s why you get that uncomfortable feeling in the pit of your stomach when you sense imminent danger, or when there is something off about that stranger you’ve just met. It’s your body’s ancient survival mechanism kicking in, saying ‘Danger. Be careful.’”

“The problem is that we often override this inner message with our logical mind. We dismiss feelings and intuition as irrational,” suggests Dr. Jerabek. Granted, paranoia and anxiety can sometimes be mistaken for gut instinct, but while the former is fear-based, the latter is not. Gut instinct is based on past knowledge and experience, and on your innate ability to quickly evaluate and process information. The memory and lessons learned in the past may be ‘forgotten’ by the brain, but the information is still stored in memory cells. Emotions, the subconscious mind, and the famous gut feeling have access to that information … and they can retrieve and process that information 10 times faster than the conscious mind. Your intuition is that inner knowing, and when you hear that voice in your head, it’s insistent, but also calm and confident. It doesn’t just warn you of danger, it also guides you. Look up stories of people who have followed their gut or listened to a warning from their intuition. They will often say something along the lines of ‘My gut was telling me to check on my child, to go to the doctor, or to take a safer route, etc. So when your intuition sends you a warning, listen. Milk it for information, and then use your rational mind to process it. It could save your life, or someone else’s.”

High Risk Drivers Can Get Cheaper Car Insurance With The Help Of The Following Tips

News Image

“High-risk drivers can get better prices, but only if they use online quotes from multiple companies, including non-standard carriers”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director of Internet Marketing Company.

Cheapquotesautoinsurance.com has released a new blog post that informs high-risk drivers that there are certain strategies which will help them get cheaper car insurance.

For more info and free quotes, visit https://cheapquotesautoinsurance.com/tips-that-can-help-high-risk-drivers-get-affordable-car-insurance/

High-risk drivers should first identify the reason why they pay so much (if it is not obvious enough), then take action. Use the following tips to increase the chances of finding better coverage than the current one:

  •     Look for specialized non-standard carriers. Many insurance companies, even the ones in the top, have subsidiaries or work with smaller companies that are specialized in dealing with high-risk drivers. Their insurance rates are usually lower than the ones offered by traditional carriers.
  •     Compare online quotes. Even if a person is a high-risk driver, many insurance companies are still willing to provide coverage. Comparing online quotes will help drivers track the best insurance rates available for them.
  •     Look for discounts. Many discounts are available for all drivers, high-risk included. Discounts for getting married, graduating a defense course, moving to a better neighborhood, and for installing safety devices will lower car insurance rates.
  •     Drive a car that is cheap to insure. Look for cheap cars that come with installed safety devices. In that way the owner can save more on premiums.
  •     Consider dropping coverage., When driving an old car that is worth less than the deductible, consider dropping the collision and comprehensive insurance.
  •     Improve credit score. All states, except California, Hawaii, and Massachusetts use the credit score to calculate insurance rates. Improving the score will help the driver get better rates. One reason why a person may be considered “high-risk” is a poor credit scores.

PharmaPoint CEO Leads Session at InterSystems Global Summit 2019

“It’s always good to be able to share the story of how XchangePoint is leveraging disparate data to provide targeted pharmacy interventions for the right patients at the right time.”

PharmaPoint is proud to announce that CEO, Mike Plaia, will be presenting a session at InterSystems Global Summit in Boston on Wednesday, September 25, from noon to 12:45 p.m. in the Wellesley room (third floor) of the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

Attendees will learn how integrated workflow management for medication optimization ensures better patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Industry research shows that 67% of adverse patient events post-discharge are medication related, significantly contributing to hospital readmission rates. The data is not surprising given that 60% of discharged patients are not compliant with their medication treatment plans. Approximately 40% of prescriptions are filled, but improperly taken, and 20% of prescriptions simply never get filled. This all results in $177 billion in yearly costs to the healthcare industry.

Using PharmaPoint client case studies, Plaia will show attendees how clients utilizing the XchangePoint solution has resulted in up to an 85% reduction in medication errors at admission and up to a 10% reduction in readmission rates for targeted patients. The InterSystems HealthConnect platform serves as a catalyst for quickly acquiring EHR data to target identified patient populations.

“We are excited to be attending InterSystems Global Summit again this year,” said Plaia. “It’s always good to be able to share the story of how XchangePoint is leveraging disparate data to provide targeted pharmacy interventions for the right patients at the right time.”

XchangePoint is designed to connect the physician, pharmacy, health insurance companies and other clinical systems utilizing integrated information to ensure better patient outcomes and satisfaction. This integration is key in order to provide effective bedside programs, medication reconciliation, post follow-up and coordinated transition care.

Members of the PharmaPoint team will have a space in the Summit’s Partner Pavilion, and attendees are encouraged to stop by for more information about XchangePoint. Open hours are set for Monday, September 23, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday, September 24, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.; or Wednesday, September 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ID.me Launches REAL ID Pre-Screening Service for Issuing Agencies

ID.me, the industry leader in secure online identification verification, today announced the launch of REAL ID Pre-Screening https://www.ID.me/business/realid, a service that uses ID.me technology to provide REAL ID applicants with instant, secure assurance that their documents satisfy REAL ID requirements before they enter the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This enables DMVs to process REAL ID applicants faster and more efficiently, without increasing overhead costs.

REAL ID issuing agencies have found that many applicants arrive at the DMV with documents that do not comply with REAL ID guidelines, creating a confusing and frustrating experience that significantly increases wait times. As just one example, while standard REAL ID document instructions may indicate that a utility bill provides sufficient proof of residency, some may not contain the applicant’s name or their precise street address. So, while the document type is correct, the specific document the applicant brings won’t meet REAL ID requirements.

“What a frustrating experience to wait weeks for a DMV appointment, take time off from work, then wait in line for several hours, only to find the documents you brought don’t satisfy REAL ID requirements,” said Blake Hall, CEO and Founder of ID.me. “This customer pain also causes significant operational issues for DMVs — reprocessing an applicant is massively inefficient and generates extra work. With ID.me’s REAL ID Pre-Screening tool, we provide personalized document feedback to applicants prior to their DMV appointment which results in a streamlined experience for everyone.”

With ID.me REAL ID Pre-Screening, users can create an ID.me account and ensure proper documentation, such as proof of identity, Social Security number, and two proofs of residency, are REAL ID compliant on the ID.me platform before visiting the DMV.

State ID Issuer Benefits:

  • Maximize first-time success of those attempting to be issued a REAL ID
  • Reduce cycle time per applicant by pre-completing workflow steps like document imaging (*note, the technician must always inspect the original documents during the in-person REAL ID visit)
  • Increase REAL ID applicant throughput capacity with existing headcount
  • Increase customer satisfaction

REAL ID Applicant Benefits:

  • Avoid repeat visits to the DMV
  • Spend less time at the DMV by pre-uploading document images
  • Link REAL ID visit to a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 Single Sign On to create a verified digital identity that may be used to access online services

As of October 1, 2020, only REAL ID-compliant licenses and ID cards will be accepted for any traveler boarding an airplane or visiting a federal facility. More information on obtaining a REAL ID can be found at https://www.dhs.gov/real-id.

Explore the power of ID.me REAL ID Pre-Screening, at https://www.ID.me/business/realid.

Kelly Foundation awards $100,000 grant to MERISTEM, a learning program for young adults with autism

https://www.prweb.com/

MERISTEM, located outside of Sacramento, helps transition young adults on the autism spectrum to independent living, including college and career success.

“Meristem has recorded tremendous growth in its first five years of operation, and we look forward to watching more families benefit from the program’s innovative approach to education, training and empowerment.”

The Kelly Foundation awarded its 2019 Major Gift of $100,000 to MERISTEM, a non-profit program that uses experiential learning to help young adults on the autism spectrum become more socially and economically independent. The award constituted the Kelly Foundation’s largest single donation of the year and will be used to expand Meristem’s successful theater program, “Speak Up, Speak Out,” which uses improvisational performance techniques to empower students to participate in spontaneous conversation and a variety of social interactions. Funds from the grant will also be dedicated to the development of a series of parent education events, as well as bolstering Meristem’s independent living curriculum, which includes skill-building in financial literacy, cooking, cleaning and other pursuits.

“The Kelly Foundation is pleased to award this year’s Major Gift to Meristem as an investment in the expansion of its promising curriculum, which equips young adults on the autism spectrum with the skills to lead more independent lives,” said Shawn Kelly Devlin, President of the Kelly Foundation and Chairman of the Board of River City Bank. “Meristem has recorded tremendous growth in its first five years of operation, and we look forward to watching more families benefit from the program’s innovative approach to education, training and empowerment.”

TWEET THIS: The Kelly Foundation, in partnership with @RiverCityBank, awards its 2019 Major Gift of $100,000 to #Sacramento based @goMeristem a three-year program that equips young adults on the autism spectrum with skills for social and economic independence.

“Our staff was in the midst of a training session when we received the call from the Kelly Foundation, and we were over the moon when it became clear that we’d secured the grant,” said Edmund Knighton, President of Meristem. “Our students and their families have always been our top priority, and we’re excited to leverage these funds to expand our parent education and support services, which will keep parents apprised of their student’s progress while also connecting parents with one another in community. We’ll also use some of the grant monies to enhance our improvisational theater program, which helps students develop their spontaneous speaking skills and is our most popular course.”

Knighton says the grant will be used for a variety of building improvements for Meristem’s theater program, including the addition of curtains and backdrops for the stage. Meristem’s staff also intends to bring performer Mickey Rowe, who was the first actor on the autistic spectrum to play an autistic role, back to the school to speak with students and parents about making a living and supporting a family. Rowe was the guest speaker at Meristem’s graduation ceremony in 2019, where he praised the theater program for its incorporation of improvisational techniques and for encouraging students to lead parts of the program. Within the theater program and other areas of the Meristem curricula, students have the opportunity to advance to positions of leadership and mentorship over time, sometimes to the point of leading full segments or even full classes.

The Meristem Method is based upon the principle of “doing to learn” (experiential learning). The five core areas of the curriculum are movement, land work, craftwork, independent living skills, and preparation to work, all accessed by real life experience. Students develop capacities and executive functioning through planning and executing tasks. Students may also apply their training in one of three social enterprises: the Meristem Model Bed and Breakfast, which is the only bed and breakfast in the country operated by young adults on the autism spectrum; the Meristem Herbal Products Company, which provides training in product creation, pricing, sales, packaging and shipping, marketing, website development, ecommerce and business reporting; and the Meristem Café and Bakery, which supplies an assortment of baked goods to the on-campus café and several offsite local businesses.

The Kelly Foundation supports health and human services, education, culture, environment and civic improvement through its funding. Each year, the Foundation provides approximately $400,000 in grants to organizations that support the Sacramento region. Since merging with the RCB Foundation in 2009, the Kelly Foundation, of which River City Bank remains a major contributor, focuses on giving back to the greater Sacramento region through charitable donations.

FSHD Society Announces 2020 International Research Congress and Connect Conferences

Washington Hilton

The Washington Hilton will be the site for the 2020 FSHD Connect and International Research Congress.

“Our conferences serve vital roles to ensure that all of our stakeholders are working together…to speed up the delivery of effective treatments to our families.” – Mark Stone, CEO

The FSHD Society announced today that its 27th annual International Research Congress (IRC) will be held on June 25-26, 2020, at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC. It will be followed on June 27-28 by FSHD Connect, the Society’s biennial global conference bringing together patients, family members, researchers and clinicians for two days of education, advocacy, and networking.

The Society is a patient-focused nonprofit organization that is accelerating the development of treatments for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), a rare, genetic muscle-weakening condition that affects an estimated one million men, women, and children worldwide.

The IRC is the premier global platform for the discussion and dissemination of state-of-the-art research on FSHD. Researchers who have networked at this yearly gathering since 1994 have helped to drive fundamental discoveries, with a broad consensus on a “central hypothesis” of the genetic basis of FSHD, development of cellular and animal models, identification of therapeutic targets, and a proliferation of ideas for treating FSHD.

The biennial FSHD Connect is the world’s largest gathering of patients and families living with FSHD. Leading experts in FSHD clinical care, research, and drug development will share the latest knowledge and answer questions from attendees. There will be workshops to address a wide variety of patient and caregiver concerns. A much-anticipated highlight will be updates from biopharmaceutical companies that are conducting FSHD clinical trials.

“The FSHD International Research Congress and FSHD Connect serve vital roles to ensure that all of our stakeholders are working together, speaking with one voice, to speed up the delivery of effective treatments to our families,” said Mark Stone, President and CEO of the FSHD Society.
