He frequently engages in pro bono endeavors for the Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program (Philly VIP) and was enrolled in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania Pro Bono Roll of Honor in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012. In September of 2011, he was selected as Philly VIP’s Volunteer of the Month.

Mr. Stern has been selected multiple times to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Rising Stars list and the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Super Lawyers® lists. He has been named to the Super Lawyers® Top 100 of Philadelphia and Top 100 of Pennsylvania lists in 2013 and 2014. He was also named to the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Best Lawyers® lists.

Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano opened its doors in July 2010 with six attorneys and only 22 total staff members. Today, it is the largest workers’ compensation and Social Security disability law firm in the region, boasting locations across the country and over 200 staff members. Community Health Charities Launches #Thanks8billion CFC Appreciation Campaign

#Thanks8billion recognizes military and federal personnel who have raised more than $8 billion through Combined Federal Campaign.

This week, Community Health Charities launched a #Thanks8billion campaign to recognize military and federal personnel who have given so generously through the annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), raising more than $8 billion over more than 50 years.

“Most of the news coverage recently around CFC has been negative,” said Thomas G. Bognanno, president and CEO, Community Health Charities. “It was high time someone focused on the unprecedented impact this campaign has had over the years and the leadership and unselfish commitment of our government workforce.”

The CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace giving campaign, with almost 200 separate CFC campaigns throughout the country and overseas, raising tens of millions of dollars each year.

Special recognition goes to last year’s top CFC contributors:

1. Department of Defense (civilian and military)

2. United States Postal Service

3. Department of Health and Human Services

4. Department of Homeland Security

5. Department of Veteran Affairs

6. Department of Commerce

7. Department of Treasury

8. Department of Transportation

9. NASA

10. Department of Justice

Through their generosity in the CFC, federal and military personnel have helped find cures for children with cancer, supported injured military veterans and their families, provided meals and housing for those in need, and improved millions of lives, building stronger, healthier communities for all of us.

To align with the CFC opening last week and the National Capital Area kicking off this week, Community Health Charities is embarking on an appreciation campaign, including a #Thanks8billion social media blitz, plus ads this week in The Washington Post, Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corp Times, and Air Force Times, as well as an upcoming ad in The National Association of Postal Supervisors’ The Postal Supervisor magazine, and more.

Community Health Charities also is hosting a series of CFC Summits that bring together the top revenue-generating nonprofits in the CFC to discuss ways to collaborate and take action to propel the campaign forward.

CFC is open September 9, 2019 through January 12, 2020: https://cfcgiving.opm.gov/.

Newly Expanded Delta Dental of Arizona Oral Health Center at St. Vincent de Paul Serves More in Need

News Image

“There are very few organizations in the Phoenix area that do as much good work as St. Vincent de Paul does,” says Delta Dental of Arizona President and CEO Allan Allford. “They are not doing it right for their own notoriety, they are doing it right for the people who need it most.”

Improving oral health for Arizona’s most vulnerable population, St. Vincent de Paul recently completed a full renovation of its charity dental clinic to increase access to dental care for underserved children and adults in the Phoenix community. The Delta Dental of Arizona Oral Health Center at the Virginia G. Piper Medical & Dental Clinic transformed from an eight-chair clinic to 16 chairs, which allows the staff to increase patient visits from 6,000 to more than 10,000 annually.

As one of the largest charity dental clinics of its kind in the country, the renovation and additional patient care spaces sets up SVdP dental volunteers and staff to provide comprehensive oral health care to uninsured and low-income patients who would otherwise forgo even the most discounted dental care because of financial strain.

“Within a month, I will see more severely medically compromised patients than you would see in private practice in five years,” says Dr. Ken Snyder of St. Vincent de Paul. “Without Delta Dental of Arizona and other generous donors in our community, this clinic and the types of procedures we offer patients or the training we do for dental students, may not have been possible.”

In late 2017, Delta Dental of Arizona announced a $1 million gift to SVdP to sustain the additional operational costs of the expanded dental clinic to ensure both preventive and emergency oral health care services for underserved children and adults are available for the next 10 years. Beyond the comprehensive and emergency care operations provided daily, specialty services such as endodontistry, periodontistry, orthodontistry and oral surgery are also available at the clinic.

“There are very few organizations in the Phoenix area that do as much good work as St. Vincent de Paul does,” says Delta Dental of Arizona President and CEO Allan Allford. “They are not doing it right for their own notoriety, they are doing it right for the people who need it most. If you can walk into that clinic and not walk out with a changed heart, then you don’t have a heart. So when we had the opportunity to live our mission through SVdP, it was a perfect fit.”

DDAZ was also proud to outfit the dental volunteers and staff with brand new scrubs to go with the brand new facility. The clinic expects to be fully operational with all chairs operating by the end of August and will begin accepting patients in the new space at that time.

Labor advocacy group honors Pond Lehocky as ‘Firm of the Year’

Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano has been named by PhillyLabor as the 2019 Who’s Who in Injury and Injured Workers Advocacy Program Firm of the Year. The award recognizes the firm’s “exemplary representation of injured workers and disabled citizens” from across the Philadelphia area.

The firm’s four founding partners were honored during an Aug. 6 ceremony at City Hall with the firm receiving a citation from city council.

PhillyLabor is an independent pro-labor media platform and service provider. The organization, through its Injured Workers Advocacy Program 501(c)(3), advocates for injured workers throughout the Philadelphia-area union community. Pond Lehocky was selected for the award by the organization’s Who’s Who in Injury and Injured Workers Advocacy committee.

The committee annually recognizes top legal professionals in the Philadelphia area who have dedicated their careers to representing and advocating for injury victims and injured workers. The Law Firm of the Year award is the highest honor bestowed to members of the legal community by the committee.

“[The] Honorees have dedicated their professional careers to representing and advocating on behalf of injured workers and disabled citizens with passion, commitment and in a manner that has restored hope and dignity back into the lives of their clients,” the award’s citation reads.

The citation says Pond Lehocky has “represented themselves, their firm and their profession in a manner that represents the highest standards of the law, and have therefore set an example worthy of influencing future legal professionals and advocates to choose the noble path of representing and helping injured workers and disabled citizens, who too often are unable to help themselves.”

In conjunction with the award, an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live w/PhillyLabor Radio, the organization’s radio program, will feature Pond Lehocky’s partners in a one-hour workers’ compensation special, broadcast on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT. Another episode, to be broadcast on WWDB 860AM, will spotlight Pond Lehocky’s associate attorneys.

Pond Lehocky is especially grateful for this award because the firm’s partners pride themselves as fierce advocates for labor. For Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano, it’s personal; many of the firm’s attorneys and staff come from union backgrounds and families.

Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano opened its doors in July 2010. Today, it is the largest workers’ compensation and Social Security disability law firm in the region and has expanded nationwide with offices in New Jersey, New York and California. The firm has also recently added new practice areas for workers, including employment law and long-term disability, and has a national referral network, which has helped 86,000 clients with referrals.
