Powering Nonprofits in Creating Positive Change

“Our company is motivated by the desire to do good things in the world,” said Charles Zhang, founder and CEO of Donorbox. “We’re excited that we’ve reached this landmark, not just because this is a major milestone for Donorbox as a company, but because we recognize what an incredible impact this amount of money has in the hands of those who need it most.”

In addition to its industry-leading technology, Donorbox boasts a world-class support team fully dedicated to going above and beyond for customers and helping them reach their goals. Whether walking a customer through using Donorbox for the first time, assisting with technical difficulties, or supporting with setting up useful integrations or importing data, the Donorbox customer service team is there to help every step of the way. The Donorbox customer experience is one of the company’s most frequently mentioned standout elements.

Zhang continued, “While the amount underlines our momentum as a business, it more importantly demonstrates the trust nonprofits across the globe have in Donorbox, especially during times marred by political, economic, and environmental challenges.”

Donorbox will expand its capacity to help nonprofits in the coming year by introducing a new CRM system. Organizations will be able to utilize Donorbox as a single solution for both fundraising and comprehensive donor management. With Donorbox’s CRM, customers will be able to view important insights and analyze trends to better manage donors and members, helping to amplify fundraising efforts. In 2024, Donorbox aims to integrate LLMs to automate supporter analytics and management tasks, allowing teams to concentrate on mission work. Donorbox is in the initial stages of this development but believes AI can significantly benefit nonprofits by freeing resources and simplifying processes.

Helping nonprofits like Maya’s Hope, Hydrating Humanity, Organic Soup Kitchen, For the Love of Alex, and Nova Ukraine, Donorbox is focused on the stories of hope and transformation it has enabled through its platform.

“When we discovered that Donorbox could meet all our platform needs, from affordability to easy recurring donation options, and integrate with our existing website and payment processor, we were really impressed. But, it was their commitment to ongoing development that made us confident we had found the right platform partners to grow with us,” noted Matt Peterson, founder of Hydrating Humanity, which provides safe water, hygiene education, and hope in developing nations. “Today, over 350,000 school children in East Africa have clean water daily because of the donations made to Hydrating Humanity, and we have many more to serve.”

Donorbox remains unwavering in its commitment to power nonprofits, not only addressing the immediate needs of its partners but also foreseeing, innovating, and tailoring solutions for a future filled with ever-evolving challenges. From crafting tools for faith-based entities to championing cashless in-person giving, Donorbox is ready to pioneer the next chapter in fundraising.

“Donorbox seems to care that we are their clients, and I feel like that has been the experience since day one,” added Maya Rowencak Crauderueff, founder of Maya’s Hope, which works to improve the quality of life for orphaned, impoverished, and special-needs children on a global scale. “Being a client of Donorbox, I feel like I’m part of Donorbox like a family. Anytime we have an issue, the support team is incredible. They’re able to move issues forward, and that’s a huge deal. I can think of one of the platforms we were using where weeks went by trying to get ahold of someone. Having quick and knowledgeable support and a sales team like Donorbox is worth its weight in gold.”

Identity Theft Resource Center 2023 Business Impact Report Finds Record Level of Attacks Despite High Confidence in Defense

Forty-two (42) percent of small businesses lost revenue due to a cyber event. While down three percentage points from 2022, more businesses saw other increased impacts, such as more customers losing trust (32 percent), higher regrettable employee turnover (32 percent) and increased difficulty understanding what happened. The financial impacts of cyber breaches continued to drop compared to previous years, with more small businesses reporting losses under $250,000 and fewer reporting higher dollar-value events. Cyber insurance emerged as the primary source of recovery funding (33 percent), followed by cash reserves. There was a slight increase in headcount reductions (13 percent) to address data breach costs.

Seventeen (17) percent of organizations that experienced a data breach did not send data breach notices to impacted consumers. Fifty (50) percent of those who did not send a notice said it was at the request of law enforcement, followed by 38 percent claiming no personal information was exposed. Twenty-one (21) percent said there was no risk of harm from the type of data compromised.

DOWNLOAD THE 2023 BUSINESS IMPACT REPORT

“The trends identified in the 2023 Business Impact Report follow the same patterns the ITRC has seen in our other reports around consumer impacts and data breaches,” said Eva Velasquez, President and CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center. “We saw a spike in attacks in 2021 before a reduction last year due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and disruption in the cryptocurrency markets. Identity crime markets have rebounded this year, leading to record levels of breaches, suicide rates, and business attacks.

The good news is that small business leaders are focused on data security and privacy protection. However, we still have a lot of work to do. We must accelerate the transition to newer protections and continue to develop new resources to assist victims based on solid research and unmistakable evidence.”

According to the 2023 Business Impact Report, most small businesses have not utilized tools such as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for employee or customer use, mandatory strong passwords or role-based access for employee access to sensitive data. Depending on the solution, adoption rates range between 20 and 34 percent.

The report shows similar adoption rates for consumer data collection, use, and storage practices and policies designed to protect personal information and privacy. Adoption rates range from 21 to 37 percent, partly due to state laws requiring data best practices, including data access, opt-in to data collection, opt-out of data sales, and rights to correct and delete certain types of information.

The ITRC offers a range of low and no-cost tools to help small businesses. Consumers can receive free live victim support or guidance from a knowledgeable advisor by calling 888.400.5530 or visiting idtheftcenter.org to live chat.

About the ITRC 2023 Business Impact Report

The ITRC, using the SurveyMonkey platform, conducted an online survey to explore the impacts of cybercrimes on small businesses as defined by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The survey was conducted in September 2023, covering the previous 12 months unless otherwise noted in a specific question. The online questionnaire was completed by 551 individuals; 276 met the criteria of being a person in a leadership position or an IT professional at a company of 500 or fewer employees, including solopreneurs. One hundred ninety-nine (199) reported being the victim of a cyberattack, a data breach or both in the past 12 months. This year’s report reflects responses from businesses ranging from single-employee companies to organizations with 500 employees. The responses also reflect a wide range of industries with a slight concentration in retail entities. By far, the largest number of general survey responses came from people who identified as business owners or partners, followed by C-Suite Officers and Sr. Executives. Unless otherwise noted in a specific question, the term “breach” refers to both a data and security breach (successful cyberattack).

New Virtual Lecture – Meteorites Found at or near Ancient Ruins in Central Arizona

The Archaeological Conservancy is excited to announce a new virtual lecture “Meteorites Found at or near Ancient Ruins in Central Arizona” by Ken Zoll on October 26, 2023 at 5 PM MDT on Zoom Webinars.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 23, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The Archaeological Conservancy is excited to announce a new virtual lecture “Meteorites Found at or near Ancient Ruins in Central Arizona” on October 26, 2023 at 5 PM MDT on Zoom Webinars. This event will feature Ken Zoll, an expert in archaeology, rock art, and cultural astronomy. He is also a founding member of the Verde Valley Archaeological Center and Museum in Camp Verde, AZ and was its Executive Director from 2012-2022.

In this talk Ken will discuss meteorites that have been found at several ancient sites in the American Southwest. Four of these meteorites were in or near dwellings of the Sinagua Culture in Central Arizona. The Sinagua meteorites were determined to be part of the Canyon Diablo meteorite that created Meteor Crater near Flagstaff more than 50,000 years ago. Literature suggested that these specimens were manually transported to their locations by Native Americans hundreds of years ago. However, using recent research and modeling, the manuport hypothesis is questioned, resulting in an alternative conclusion. In addition, the estimated date of the destruction of one of the Sinagua ruins was confirmed using radiocarbon dating of charred material adhering to the meteorite that was found in the dwelling.

To register for the virtual lecture, please visit: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_1gEp9-uyRsWp5SEWAOXUeA or https://www.archaeologicalconservancy.org/virtual-lectures-2023/meteorites-and-ancient-ruins-in-central-arizona/

This lecture series is sponsored by The Archaeological Conservancy and is made possible in part with grant support from the New Mexico Humanities Council. It is free to our Members and the General Public.

Register to Attend Silicon Valley Accelerator Pitch Session for Black Owned Businesses

Almaz Negash, Founder and Executive Director of African Diaspora Network says, “Fostering economic growth relies on the pivotal steps of training, mentoring, and investing in Black entrepreneurs. The remarkable diversity and talent showcased by the participants of the Accelerating Black Leadership & Entrepreneurship (ABLE) program fill us with immense pride. They stand as living proof of the potential that exists within our community, poised to create a significant impact and flourish. The ABLE program serves as a model, demonstrating how addressing the distinctive requirements of Black founders can effectively bridge the opportunity divide and pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive, and equitable future for all.”

This year’s ABLE cohort comprises 11 remarkable entrepreneurs from eight different states: California, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin. All participating enterprises in this third cohort are proudly 100% US-based, Black-owned, and span across nine diverse sectors, including Connectivity, Data-Tech, Education, Health-Tech, Health & Wellness, FinTech, Legal-Tech, Logistics, and Renewable Energy. Members of the ABLE cohort will present their ventures at an in-person pitch session, and graduation ceremony, to leading Silicon Valley investors, angel and impact investors, and venture capitalists, among others. Participants will also receive a modest stipend as a financial award upon completion of the program.

The African Diaspora Network oversees the implementation of ABLE, in partnership with Bill as the lead funder and the Silicon Valley Executive Center, Santa Clara University as academic partner. Other funders of ABLE include Makahama Foundation, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, California Black Freedom Fund, the County of Santa Clara, KLA Foundation, and Black Rock.

“It takes guts and grit for any entrepreneur to overcome obstacles and succeed. For African American entrepreneurs, having someone to turn to as they confront those obstacles can be challenging. We support ABLE as they provide critical resources and mentorship to help the next generation of African American entrepreneurs succeed. The energy and innovation these entrepreneurs bring is impressive, and we’re excited to support them.” said René Lacerte, CEO and Founder of BILL.

“The Leavey School of Business’s Silicon Valley Executive Center at Santa Clara University is proud to be the academic partner of the ABLE program with the African Diaspora Network. This program resonates with the Jesuit Catholic value of social justice and we are committed to addressing the funding gap for Black founders. We have enjoyed working with the ABLE Entrepreneurs in Cohort 3 and are excited to accompany each of them on their entrepreneurial journeys.” said Dennis Lanham, Senior Assistant Dean and Executive Director of the Silicon Valley Executive Center at Santa Clara University

ABLE was launched in 2021 and 27 Black entrepreneurs have since graduated from the program. ABLE provides Black entrepreneurs with mentorship and entrepreneurship training that addresses the challenges faced by Black-owned businesses in the U.S., access to funders, and financial support.

“Being part of this Cohort has been an extraordinary blessing. As an entrepreneur of color, it’s common to experience moments of isolation on our journey, but ABLE has not only provided me with inspiration but also equipped me with essential tools and an empowering community, propelling my journey forward” said Rhode Malivert; CEO, K12 Preparatory Academy and ABLE 2023 cohort member.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre Awarded Major National Grant Marking Milestone in National Recognition

“Since founding a theatre company, I’ve made it a special point to see a lot of disparate types of theatre and learn as much as I can from other theatre companies. When visiting the American Conservatory Theatre, Steppenwolf, Manhattan Theatre Club, Wooster Group, LaMama or Atlantic Theatre (all non-profits) I would take special care to look at their funding sources and almost without fail I’d see The Shubert Foundation. I knew that to be in the “national theatre
conversation” a theatre company had to be recognized by The Shubert Foundation.” – Tad Janes, Founding Artistic Director

In an era when theaters across the country are facing unprecedented challenges, The Shubert Foundation has continued to provide operational support to uplift the American Theatre at large. MET has faced many of the same hardships that have led countless theaters to close or reduce programming and with the support of major grants, individual donations and a creative and resourceful community, MET has continued to thrive.

“We are profoundly honored to have been chosen as a recipient of The Shubert Foundation’s grant. This investment not only validates the hard work and dedication of our entire team but also empowers us to dream bigger and reach further with our artistic and community-building initiatives.” – Katherine DuBois, Managing Director

Maryland Ensemble Theatre invites the community, its supporters, and all those who appreciate the transformative power of the arts to join in appreciating this momentous occasion. MET is currently in its 26th season, Survivors & Saviors, producing thirteen productions for mainstage and family audiences, opening the season with Angels in America Part One & Two, and
Dragon’s Love Tacos.

Learn How People with Pulmonary Hypertension ‘Live PHearlessly’ During PH Awareness Month

The Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s “Live PHearlessly” campaign strives to celebrate how the pulmonary hypertension community thrives despite a rare disease.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 19, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Every November, the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) launches a national campaign to raise awareness about pulmonary hypertension (PH). This progressive rare disease is defined by high blood pressure in the lungs and can cause right-heart failure and even death.

For this year’s PH Awareness Month, PHA is launching the “Live PHearlessly” campaign to celebrate the resilience of individuals with PH. Throughout November, PHA will share inspiring stories that demonstrate how people from the PH community thrive while managing this rare disease. PHA will also share educational materials about risk factors, signs and symptoms.

PH contributes to more than 18,000 adult deaths each year in the United States. It can occur among those with left-heart disease; associated conditions such as sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or scleroderma; or from congenital heart disease. It affects people of any age, sex, race, or social or ethnic background.

PH is significantly underdiagnosed and misunderstood, even among health care providers. Symptoms, including shortness of breath, fatigue and chest pain, aren’t specific to PH and can dangerously delay diagnosis. While PH is incurable, early diagnosis and proper treatment can extend and improve quality of life.

“PHA continues to share stories of the triumphs and challenges of individuals with PH. This awareness month we highlight how members of the PH community ‘Live PHearlessly,’ proving that a PH diagnosis doesn’t define them,” said PHA Board of Trustees chair Tony Lahnston. “The pulmonary hypertension community faces a bright future with increased awareness, improved support and advances in available treatments. PHA staff and leadership remain dedicated to fulfilling our mission to extend and improve the lives of those affected by PH.”

PHA’s outreach during November includes social media, advocacy, education and fundraising components. PHA’s PH Awareness Month digital toolkit includes social media profile and cover images, infographics, downloadable fact sheets and flyers, and other elements to raise awareness throughout November.

Notable PH Awareness Month Activities

1.CTEPH Awareness Day. PHA will raise awareness Nov. 8 about chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), a rare form of PH caused by blood clots in the lungs that harden over time and impede blood flow. Up to 5% of people who develop pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) may develop CTEPH. Unlike some forms of PH, CTEPH has treatment options, including a potentially curative surgery.

To celebrate CTEPH Awareness Day, PHA will release videos in English and Spanish highlighting 10 important CTEPH facts. Additionally, PHA will share a video of CTEPH patient Mark Porter discussing his diagnosis and treatment journey. The day’s activities will conclude with a national virtual support group for those affected by CTEPH at 8 p.m. EST.

2. PHA’s Day of Action, Nov. 15, aims to elevate the pressing need for supplemental oxygen access. The PH community will share their supplemental oxygen stories and photos on social media; send letters to the editors of magazines, newspapers and online platforms; and urge Congress to improve access to supplemental oxygen.

3.Joining the global day of giving, PHA will celebrate GivingTuesday on Nov. 28, inviting community support and participation.

4. On Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. EST, PHA will host the first installment of the two-part webinar series, “Hope Through Research in Pulmonary Hypertension: Emerging Developments.” Simulcast in English and Spanish, this webinar will address developments in PH research and PHA’s investment in the clinical trial process. The second webinar, “Hope Through Research in Pulmonary Hypertension: Clinical Trails,” is Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. EDT. Both webinars were developed in partnership with FundaciSn Contra la HipertensiSn Pulmonar, a pulmonary hypertension organization in Spain.

5.In addition to virtual opportunities, PHA will host three in-person fundraising events:
