ATEN Embraces Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility through Innovative Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation System

These ambitious goals have been outlined in a series of precise action plans, one of which includes a substantial investment in energy conservation and renewable energy solutions. In 2021, ATEN marked a significant milestone by implementing a solar photovoltaic power generation system in its Thailand factory. The system, with a capacity of 334.8 KWp, began mass production in 2021 and entered trial operation in November 2022. Further demonstrating its commitment, ATEN also built a solar photovoltaic power generation system with a capacity of 170 KWp at its Xizhi factory headquarters. The system was officially operational by the end of the year, marking a substantial step towards ATEN’s sustainability goals.

“ATEN is resolutely committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility to reduce carbon emissions,” said Kevin Chen, President of ATEN. “In essence, we’re not just making strides towards a greener operation – we’re passionately influencing our employees and supply-chain partners to embrace and champion a greener lifestyle. Together, we’re paving the way for a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.”

Moreover, ATEN, holding complete ISO certifications including 9001, 14001, 27001, and 45001, is now focusing on obtaining ISO 14067 for Carbon Footprint Verification (CFV), to align with modern sustainability standards. Beyond certifications, ATEN is dedicated to helping people and partners achieve their sustainability goals by providing innovative solutions. This commitment is reflected in our support for environmental initiatives and in integrating energy conservation and carbon reduction into our daily operations, nurturing a culture of environmental responsibility.

Northeastern Weed Science Society annual meeting to feature communication, harvest weed seed control sessions

Patricia Raun, director of Virginia Tech’s Center for Communicating Science, will lead a workshop in which participants will share the need to break down barriers and convey their expertise in a way that resonates with others at this year’s Northeastern Weed Science Society (NEWSS) meeting January 7-11, 2024, in Boston.

WESTMINSTER, Colo., Dec. 19, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Did you ever wonder what an entomologist, a policy analyst, a soil scientist, and an actor might have in common? No, that’s not the lead-in to a joke. Instead, it’s all part of a workshop that will be featured at this year’s Northeastern Weed Science Society (NEWSS) meeting January 7-11, 2024, in Boston.

Patricia Raun, director of Virginia Tech’s Center for Communicating Science, will lead a workshop in which participants will share the need to break down barriers and convey their expertise in a way that resonates with others.

Raun has worked extensively with scientists, engineers, and medical professionals to enhance their communication skills, and now she’s bringing her expertise to NEWSS members.

This session will stress the need to:

  •      Communicate with clarity and directness.
  •      Establish a personal connection with your audience.
  •      Foster spontaneity in your communication.
  •      Be responsive and adaptable in your interactions.

The NEWSS meeting also will include presentations examining various aspects of harvest weed seed control (HWSC). Michael Flessner, a Virginia Tech weed scientist, has found ways to reduce weed seedbank inputs in soybean and wheat production.

It’s particularly effective for weeds such as Palmer amaranth, which retain 90% of weed seeds. Seed impact mills used in HWSC can kill more than 97% of weed seeds that enter it in many cases with Class 8 combines. Various studies show a 30% reduction in weed density in the season following one HWSC event. However, testing of chaff lining and seed impact mills on commercial farms has had issues of material plugging the combine. This is mostly associated with green or high moisture harvest residues.

The meeting will also feature 92 titles including student poster and oral presentations and research posters that feature:

  •      Agronomic crops.
  •      Fruit, vegetable and tree crops.
  •      Turf, ornamental and non-crop.
  •      Weed ecology and invasive species.

A graduate student luncheon will be held on January 9, with a student quiz bowl slated on January 10.

Additional information is available online.

Meetings Scheduled for Early Next Year
More annual weed science meetings below have been scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. Further details will be publicized and posted online as they become available.

The WSSA will meet jointly with the Southern Weed Science Society (SWSS) in San Antonio, Texas, on January 22-25, 2024.

The Western Society of Weed Science (WSWS) will meet March 4-7, 2024, in Denver, Colorado.

SF-Based Veterinary Startup Dr. Treat Readies Second California Location

Dr. Treat’s goal is to leverage technology and data to create individualized treatment plans designed around each pet’s unique needs and characteristics. To that end, Dr. Treat has built its own Patient Information Management Software to make it easy and seamless for its teams to offer the highest quality of care, consistently.

Dr. Treat’s clinics are built to fear-free standards to create a low anxiety environment for pets. Both clinics offer a reduced-stress environment to pets, pet parents and the veterinary care team in a ‘state of the heart’ environment. Additionally, all members of the Dr. Treat team are Fear-Free certified. Both clinics offer state-of-the-art surgical, diagnostic, and dental equipment onsite, as well as a pharmacy. The San Francisco clinic was recently named one of five Merit winners in Design360’s 2023 Hospital Design Competition.

“We are building one of the most technologically advanced veterinary care companies and creating aesthetically designed spaces for anxiety-free experiences,” said Rakesh Tondon, co-founder and CEO of Dr. Treat. “Our goal is to provide best-in-class quality of care for pets and an amazing experience for pet parents, while also driving down costs through the use of technology.”

In 2022, Dr. Treat received $10.5M in seed capital from many Silicon Valley-based investors who recognized the potential of the company’s tech-focused approach to veterinary care. The funding round was led by Y Combinator, Liquid2, Epic Ventures, Quarry Ventures, Builders VC, Garuda Ventures, Scrum Ventures, UpHonest Capital and the Rebel Fund, among others. In addition, Dr. Treat had significant interest from animal lovers and angel investors, including Ben Silbermann (Founder/CEO of Pinterest), Divesh Makan (Founder/CEO of ICONIQ Capital), Ravi Sajwan (COO of 5 Hour Energy), Mick Murray (ex-CFO of Blue Cross) and Caterina Fake (Founder of Flickr), among others.

Dr. Treat’s Burlingame clinic will open at 220 Primrose Rd. in late January 2024. For more information, visit Dr. Treat at www.drtreat.com or on social media at @itsdrtreat.

About Dr. Treat

In 2020, Rakesh Tondon and Hetal Shah were one of 12.6 million households to welcome a new pet into their lives. Their three-month-old puppy, Coco, offered them a first-hand look at the shortcomings of the traditional veterinary industry. At that time, there were long waits for veterinary care because clinics were understaffed and overworked, and clinics lacked use of even basic technology and tools to help them be more efficient.

That is when Rakesh and Hetal decided to use their backgrounds in technology, hospitality and marketing to revolutionize veterinary care. They created Dr. Treat to help pets like Coco access better healthcare and provide a better experience for pet parents like themselves. Dr. Treat offers highly personalized & preventative care, in-clinic and virtually, based on pets’ unique personalities, breeds, health markers, diet and lifestyle, among other factors. Along with co-founder Charlie Bowman, they opened the first Dr. Treat location in San Francisco, Calif., in August 2020, with the mission to deliver accessible veterinary care through the use of data and technology. They anticipate opening a second location in Burlingame, Calif., in October 2023.

With plans to scale nationally, Dr. Treat is developing a next-level data platform to reshape veterinary care. The company’s technology-driven approach has the potential to drastically improve the quality and consistency of care and radically reduce long-term care costs of companion animals.
