Yamaha Night of Worship Offers Intimate and Inspirational Session with Jason Lovins Band and We The Kingdom for “Believe in Music”

Yamaha Night of Worship will feature performances by We The Kingdom (left) and Jason Lovins Band (right).

“This year’s event will deliver the best of contemporary worship music artistry, featuring We The Kingdom, an exciting newcomer on the music scene, and Jason Lovins, a beloved recording and touring artist with an incredibly inspirational story,” said Chris Gero, Yamaha Artist Relations Group.

Yamaha is combining the powerful message of faith through music with the intimate setting of a prayer service for its annual Night of Worship event, January 21, 2021 during Believe in Music Week.

For the past 11 years, the Yamaha Night of Worship concert has presented inspiring live performances by worship music artists. The 2021 version will deliver the same immersive experience but in an online, interactive and personal format.

Believe in Music Week is the virtual reimagining of the annual NAMM Show, canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The hour-long session will feature music performances by We The Kingdom, named the 2020 New Artist of the Year by the Gospel Music Association, and the acclaimed and popular Jason Lovins Band. The bands will also share their experiences using music to inspire, and Yamaha is offering a live chat feature allowing viewers to interact with the artists and special guests during the livestream.

“This year’s event will deliver the best of contemporary worship music artistry, featuring We The Kingdom, an exciting newcomer on the music scene, and Jason Lovins, a beloved recording and touring artist with an incredibly inspirational story,” said nine-time Emmy award-winning producer Chris Gero, chief artist relations executive, Yamaha Artist Relations Group/Yamaha Entertainment Group. “The online and interactive format will allow the viewers to get up close and personal with these artists and establish a deeper connection with their messages of faith through music.”

Jason Lovins, the leader and founder of The Jason Lovins Band, has turned his life’s beginnings into a stirring testimony, even though the negativity of it could have turned him towards seclusion, bitterness or to be silent altogether. Jason’s mother was raped when she was 15 years old, and Jason is the baby she carried to full-term after the incident. From those beginnings, he was raised in a strong family environment by his mother and grandparents who inspired and nurtured his love for music. It was during high school that Jason got into Contemporary Christian music, and it changed his life. He and his band have since built a successful recording and touring career, and a faithful following worldwide.

We The Kingdom is a multi-generational family of musicians, including esteemed producers and songwriters Ed Cash (Chris Tomlin, NEEDTOBREATHE, Bethel Music, Crowder), Scott Cash, Franni Rae Cash, Martin Cash and Andrew Bergthold. The band organically formed at a Young Life camp in Georgia. Now, as one of the top 20 breakout artists across all genres in 2020, the group’s first single, “Holy Water,” reigned at the top of the Christian radio charts for eight weeks, earning We The Kingdom four Dove nominations and a win for “New Artist of the Year.”

Night of Worship will stream on January 21, 2021, from 4 to 5 pm PST. The event can be viewed on the Believe in Music “Artist TV Channel,” and viewers must first register for Believe in Music at https://attend.believeinmusic.tv. A separate registration for Night of Worship is not required.

The performances by Jason Lovins Band and We The Kingdom will be pre-recorded at Ocean Way Nashville using the Yamaha RIVAGE PM10 digital mixing console, NEXO loudspeaker systems and a host of Yamaha musical instruments.

More information about Night of Worship will also be listed on the Artist TV channel, where people can add the event to their schedules and set reminders to watch when it airs.

800 Mile Adventure Raises $1.8 Million To Support Human Trafficking Survivors

“I am still blown away by the amount of support this journey has received. I could not be more honored to shed light on The Colorado City Dream Center, and everything they are doing to help heal the victims of polygamy,” said Annalee Barnett.

A brave father-daughter duo wrapped up an 800-mile hike on The Arizona Trail recently with an initial goal to raise $1 million and awareness for The Colorado City Dream Center. The duo, Luke and Annalee Barnett, had no idea that they would not only surpass their initial fundraising goal, but they would also experience a nearly fatal accident that could have abruptly halted their mission.

The hike, what the father-daughter duo called “Adventure Your Life”, was officially completed on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020. The trek initially began back in September, but was delayed after Luke suffered a severe accident when an 8,000 lbs. boulder rolled over him, just missing crushing his skull.

Annalee went on to finish the remainder of the hike following the accident, with her father there to finish the last 200 yards and cross the finish line by his daughter’s side. Along with the completion of the hike, their initial goal of $1 million was surpassed by actually raising $1.8 million.

“This has been an incredibly challenging but rewarding experience,” said Annalee Barnett. “I am still blown away by the amount of support this journey has received. I could not be more honored to shed light on The Colorado City Dream Center, and everything they are doing to help heal the victims of polygamy.”

500 miles into the hike a boulder shifted in their path, but Luke was able to push Annalee out of the way. The boulder ended up crushing Luke, resulting in three broken ribs, a broken femur, a broken hip, a broken arm, and gashed hands. Annalee is trained in emergency care, so she was able to drag him out from under the boulder prior to a rescue helicopter taking Luke to a hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona. Knowing that this hike was a dream for his daughter to complete, Luke encouraged his daughter to hike the last 300 miles. Annalee chose to continue on the adventure with her mother and friends.

“I am grateful that I was able to participate and make a difference for The Colorado City Dream Center alongside my daughter,” said Luke Barnett, Pastor of Dream City Church Phoenix. “Although my personal hiking adventure got cut short, I am extremely fulfilled and proud that Annalee was able to finish strong and raise an incredible amount of donations for these survivors.”

The Dream Center, located in Colorado City, Arizona, that Annalee and Luke were hiking in support of, works to serve as a relief community and safe haven for survivors escaping generational human trafficking and exploitation. It is the former residence and headquarters for the polygamist sex cult leader Warren Jeffs, that has since turned into a home for victims and survivors of polygamy. The center was started and is run by Dream City Church, which Luke Barnett is a pastor for.

This is only the beginning in their efforts to create a better future and a better life for victims of polygamy. The organization is currently ramping up for their Stop Traffic Walk, an annual walk in support of human trafficking victims, as well as their annual Dream Conference.

5 Healthy Aging Resolutions for Older Adults

News Image

New Year’s resolutions can range from exploring new hobbies to making healthy changes, and older adults can take part in this yearly tradition to positively impact their overall well-being.

The past year presented us with many challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted plans and goals set in 2020 – whether it was getting in shape or making more time for family. However, the start of a new year is a perfect opportunity to hit reset and resolve to make commitments for the coming months. New Year’s resolutions can range from exploring new hobbies to making healthy changes, and older adults can take part in this yearly tradition to positively impact their overall well-being.

“Now is the ideal time for older adults and family caregivers to work together to set goals and think about how they can maintain a healthy lifestyle in the year ahead,” said Lakelyn Hogan, Ph.D., gerontologist and caregiver advocate for Home Instead. “It’s a great practice to reevaluate and commit to a resolution that will add value and happiness to your life. Anything from being more active to prioritizing relationships can improve overall mental and physical health.”

New Year’s resolutions are a great way to establish and maintain healthy habits. And the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle are many, including living a longer life, reducing stress and experiencing fewer health problems. Even more, making time to exercise can prevent memory loss, reduce chronic pain, improve flexibility and balance, and boost your immune system. With so many positive effects, it’s no surprise many older adults commit to staying active in the new year. In fact, according to a recent Finder survey, 47% of baby boomers plan to make a resolution this year – mostly focused on health and self-improvement.

More than ever, people are ready to ring in a new year and focus on how they can better themselves. Adding a health-related goal to your resolution list can help establish healthy and positive habits and kickstart your year off right. Not sure where to begin? Hogan recommends starting with one of the aging-friendly resolutions below.

  • Eat healthier: Feeling good as you age starts with a proper diet. Strive to incorporate healthy options like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and healthy fats in every meal or snack. These foods are packed with nutrients to benefit your whole body. Consider eating with loved ones, even virtually, to help promote better eating habits. According to research from Home Instead, Inc., 65% of senior men and 56% of senior women feel they eat more nutritiously with others compared to eating alone. Making a point to enjoy regular meals together is an easy way for family caregivers to help their loved one stay on track.
  • Be more active: Activities such as aerobic exercise, walking or swimming, are great simple ways to get moving. Start small and build up slowly. This will allow your body time to adapt and provide opportunities to celebrate your progress throughout the year. If virtual classes are more your speed, try video workouts online or join a virtual fitness program to stay active while engaging with others.
  • Prioritize relationships. It’s important to stay socially active and connected. Though it is discouraged to gather in person at this time because of COVID-19, staying socially engaged is possible and has been shown to keep the mind engaged. Use technology like video calls or social networks to maintain communication and regularly visit with friends and family.
  • Stay mentally sharp. Mental health is just as important as staying physically fit. Consider doing daily activities that keep your mind sharp such as puzzles, trivia games, crosswords and more. To keep things fun, ask your loved ones to join in, or explore new games online.
  • Embrace a new skill. This new year, why not try something new? Consider learning more about a skill you’ve always wanted to pick up such as painting, poetry, mastering a new language or another passion. Dedicating a certain amount of time out of your day or a few hours a week to learning a new skill can lead to a sense of accomplishment.

Planning for the future and setting new goals are often seen as activities reserved for younger generations, but resolutions can add excitement and provide a newfound purpose. Not only will your mind and body benefit from this commitment but setting and achieving personal goals boosts your confidence and results in better quality of life.

National Braille Press Receives $150,000 from NewCo Foundation for Children’s Braille Book Club

We are honored to partner with NBP to put books in the hands of families who otherwise may not have access to print/braille books.

National Braille Press (NBP) announced that it has received a generous donation of $150,000 from the NewCo Foundation over the next five years to help NBP begin the next chapter of the Children’s Braille Book Club to provide free braille books for blind and visually impaired children and their families. Currently, 28 percent of blind children don’t have access to pleasure reading materials. Applications for the free subscriptions to the Children’s Braille Book Club open on January 4, 2021, the birthdate of the inventor of braille, Louis Braille, designated by the United Nations as World Braille Day. NBP will also be raising funds from new and existing donors to match the NewCo Foundation’s gift.

“We are excited to make this special commitment to such an important organization,” said Dave and Dawn Gross, founders of NewCo Foundation. “NBP’s impact in the lives of blind children and their families is significant. We hope other foundations and individuals will join us in supporting the right to read for blind children. We are honored to partner with NBP to put books in the hands of families who otherwise may not have access to print/braille books.”

“Thanks to David and Dawn, we will be leveraging their generous support with matching funds to increase access to the free print/braille books for families who need them,” said Brian Mac Donald, President of NBP. “This next chapter of the Children’s Braille Book Club supports NBP’s efforts to defend everyone’s right to read.”

Since 1983, the Children’s Braille Book Club, the first program of its kind, has been a subscription-based program where NBP sends a new print/braille picture book every month to blind and visually impaired children for a small fee. This new initiative will start by offering free 1-year (12 book) subscriptions of the Children’s Braille Book Club to 125 eligible families on a first-come, first-served basis. The free memberships will last one year, beginning March 2021 to February 2022. The goal is to have the book club free to everyone who qualifies within 5 years. For more information on the Children’s Braille Book Club, eligibility and how to apply, go to http://www.nbp.org

The first book of the new program will be Alma and How She Got her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal published by Candlewick Press of Somerville, MA. In the story, Alma Sofia Esperanza Jose Pura Candela goes on a quest to find out why such a small person has six names. She turns to her father for answers and learns that each name has a meaning and a story behind it. She learns that one day she will have her own story to tell.

The NewCo Foundation, of Santa Rosa Valley, CA, founded by Dave and Dawn Gross, is a non-profit organization driven by the incubation of ideas, products, services and companies founded by or employing students. The foundation supports on and off campus programs that provide employment opportunities for high school and college students to make meaningful contributions to startup endeavors.

A. Lynn Williams Becomes 2021 President of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

“In my new role, I intend to focus on empowering ASHA members to advocate on behalf of the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology.”

A. Lynn Williams, PhD, CCC-SLP, took office this month as the 2021 president of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

In her term, Williams will work to advance the objectives of ASHA and its more than 211,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech-language pathology support personnel; and students in communication sciences and disorders.

“I am honored to serve as ASHA’s 2021 President,” Williams said. “In my new role, I intend to focus on empowering ASHA members to advocate on behalf of the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology. As the country grapples with the health and educational consequences of the global pandemic; strives to address the pressing issues of diversity, equity and inclusion; and readies to inaugurate a new president who has been vocal about his experiences as a person who stutters, the importance of the professions is more apparent than ever.”

Williams holds two positions at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee: (1) Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences and (2) Professor in the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Part of her work there involves providing oversight and curriculum development for allied health professions taught at her college.

An international expert on intervention for speech sound disorders in children, Williams has produced and/or given more than 175 professional publications and presentations. With funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), she developed a model of intervention for children with severe speech disorders that has been used nationally and internationally. She also developed an app with NIH funding that will translate research to facilitate intervention to children with speech sound disorders.

From 2016 to 2018, Williams served as ASHA’s Vice President for Academic Affairs in Speech-Language Pathology and was named an ASHA Fellow in 2006. Additionally, she was named a Distinguished Fellow at the National Academies of Practice; was inducted into the West Virginia University College of Human Resources and Education Hall of Fame; and was named an Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Erskine Fellowship Programme annually invites 70 distinguished international visitors to lecture at the university.

Speaking of the challenges ahead of her as ASHA’s 2021 president, Williams noted that she will address them with special motivation. “It is the inspiring work of audiologists and speech-language pathologists,” she said. “Every day, across the country, they help advance ASHA’s vision of making effective communication, a human right, accessible and achievable for all.”

About the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for 211,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech-language pathology support personnel; and students. Audiologists specialize in preventing and assessing hearing and balance disorders as well as providing audiologic treatment, including hearing aids. Speech-language pathologists identify, assess, and treat speech, language and swallowing disorders.

Asenath Scott’s newly released “The Word of God for Youth and Children” is a brilliant building block for the young hearts who are yet to set foot in the bigger world

News Image

“The Word of God for Youth and Children”: an excellent manuscript that lets adults immerse the youth and children in the Word of God so they can witness the wonderful words of life He holds within. “The Word of God for Youth and Children” is the creation of published author Asenath Scott, a writer with a career in nursing.

Scott shares, “Asenath Scott grew up in the Caribbean and migrated to England where she completed nursing studies. She pursued a career in community health which was realized in acquiring a diploma in public health while in Jamaica, West Indies. Years later, she migrated to USA and became a school nurse. Her spiritual journey began when she was twelve years old at a Billy Graham crusade in her homeland. Her grandmother played an intricate role in her spiritual life as she was a Sunday school teacher who took her along with her to church. She also sang choruses and hymns. Bible study and daily devotion were introduced to the family when her step-mother came into our lives. These factors resulted in her desire to follow up on her first book Green Oasis with this book: ‘Open the word of God for youth and children.’ It allows for parents to participate in Bible study with their children. They in turn would pass it on to their generations.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Asenath Scott’s new book is a profound way for the youth to be much more involved in the Word of God. With pages that are simply written and designed for them, the young hearts will be able to get to know God and His messages more.

Mae Abdul-Karim Wertz’s newly released “Daniel and Revelation for Today” is an enthralling guide to understanding every major word in the books of Daniel and Revelation

News Image

The author recommends “Daniel and Revelation for Today” for personal study and academic research. The book will provide ministerial students and theologians a new perspective of prophetic understanding based on the Old Testament usage of the symbolic terms.

The author writes, “In this edition, we will learn about the statue that represented pagan kingdoms that ruled the earth; the lion with eagle’s wings; the bear with three ribs in its mouth and leaning on one side; the leopard with four wings and four heads; and an un-named beast that had iron teeth and ten horns. One of those kingdoms is represented by a ram with two horns, another, by a male goat with one horn; the one horn broke, and four other horns took its place; Seventy-week prophecy; three-and-a-half years of Christ’s ministry; the cleansing of the temple; the sharing of the gospel with the Gentiles; and much more from the book of Daniel.

“From the book of Revelation, we will learn about the Lamb of God; the red dragon; a flying scroll; hail killing people and burning the economy; a mountain thrown at the sea; a bitter leader; a destructive leader that lit furnaces; the smoke that blocked the light of the sun, moon, and stars; a beast from the bottomless pit; a beast that sat on seven mountains; a beast from the sea with seven heads and ten horns; a beast from land, a woman with child, and an adulterous woman that sat on the beast.

“We will study about seven churches; seven stars; seven lamp stands; seven lamps; seven seals; seven trumpets; seven spirits; seven plagues; seven heads; seven kings; and seven angels; the first and the second death; the first, second, and third coming of Christ; 1000 years; the 144,000 people; 24 elders; 24 thrones; first and second wars between Michael and the dragon; the marriage feast of the Lamb; the feast of birds; the Old and New Jerusalem, and much more.

“Coral said, ‘You did not need my help; God wanted me to read this document because it changed my life.’

“‘If what you are sharing on social media is in your book, I am reading it,’ a friend said and added, ‘Certainly, your book will inspire many to take a second look at Daniel and Revelation.’”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Mae Abdul-Karim Wertz’s new book is an encouraging narrative that invites the readers to apply the six tools in their study, enabling them to better understand the prophecy written in the Holy Bible.

The author quoted the New King James Version throughout her book. She clearly states that having too much biblical knowledge does not drive a person away from God. The opposite is true. The reader will draw closer to Jesus as our God and Savior and will learn historical events that walk hand in hand with past world events, what prophecies are being fulfilled today, the events leading up to the Second Coming/Rapture, and the events during the Second Coming of Christ.

This year, we wanted to support the arduous work that community food banks are doing across the country due to COVID-19.

Roto-Rooter, North America’s largest provider of plumbing and drain repair services, is pleased to announce the results of their second annual Giving Thanks Food Drive. Nationwide, Roto-Rooter service technicians collected 52,630 food items from generous customers during the month of November. To give some perspective, this equates to over 49,000 pounds (24.5 tons) of food, or enough to feed more than 24 adults 3 full meals a day for an entire year.

“This year, we wanted to support the arduous work that community food banks are doing across the country due to COVID-19.”, says Austin Dressman, Marketing and Communications Manager. “We are proud of our employees for stepping up to the challenge and collecting an additional 9,000 more items than last year’s drive. Beyond that, we are completely humbled by the generosity of our customers in helping their local communities.”

Each year, Roto-Rooter locations, teams, and individual employees compete to collect the greatest number of non-perishable goods. In 2020, their Providence, RI branch and El Paso, TX contractor location collected the largest percentage of donations. Alfredo Salas (El Paso, TX) and Del Trahan (St. Louis, MO) collected the most of any technicians across the company with a combined total of 945 items. Roto-Rooter’s corporate headquarters also joined the efforts, collecting an additional 2,013 donated items.

Since launching the food drive two years ago, Roto-Rooter has collected more than 96,916 items for local food banks and pet shelters. That’s over 97,000 pounds, or 48.5 tons, of food!
