Connection to the Real World: Revelation is Revealed

With the rise of uncertainty about the present and future of humanity triggered by the pandemic, misinformation regarding COVID-19, leading to the lack of trust in the medical field and misunderstandings in the religious community, various concerns in daily life have increased.

In the United States, rumors are circulating that the COVID-19 vaccine is the “mark of the beast.” This apocalyptic biblical term is from Revelation 13 and is usually interpreted as being attached to Satan and subsequently diverging from God. Additionally, people regardless of religious background frequently encounter the question – does the COVID-19 pandemic signify “the end of the world?”

In the midst of the current world situation, Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, announced that it will hold a round of weekly seminars titled, “Testimony on Prophecy and Fulfillment of Revelation, God’s New Covenant” from October 18th to December 27th.

The seminars, which will be broadcasted live on YouTube, will provide explanations of the prophecies recorded from every chapter of Revelation based on the 5W1H (who, what, when, where, why, how) method. Chairman Man-hee Lee, who says that he is a witness who has seen and heard all the events of the book of Revelation physically fulfilled in the real world (Revelation 22:16), will be a keynote lecturer.

Previously, the Shincheonji Word Seminar held in August attracted 1,700 pastors and 28,000 people globally. “The number of participants at this time reflects their interest and effort to understand the words of Revelation consistently with the words of the rest of the books in the Bible,” said Mr. Kim Shin-chang, General Director of the International Mission Department of Shincheonji Church.

The Shincheonji Church also added that the book of Revelation is written in parables and the reality has not yet been explained, but instead has been interpreted only through human thoughts and non-biblical speculative theories which has misguided believers and instigated social disorder.

The church also emphasized that understanding the true meaning of the book of Revelation is seeing how the prophecies expressed in parables have been physically fulfilled in the world today according to the Bible.

Job numbers surpass pre-Pandemic levels for people with disabilities

nTIDE Month-to-Month Employment Numbers for People with and without Disabilities

nTIDE Month-to-Month Employment Numbers for People with and without Disabilities

“For the second consecutive month, we have seen improvement in the employment-to-population ratio for people with disabilities,” said John O’Neill, PhD. “This bright spot shows continued resilience among people with disabilities in the labor market.”

Job numbers improved for people with disabilities, whose engagement with the labor market surpassed their pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, according to today’s National Trends in Disability Employment – Monthly Update (nTIDE), issued by Kessler Foundation and the University of New Hampshire’s Institute on Disability (UNH-IOD). Their gains contrast with those of people without disabilities, whose job numbers have yet to reach pre-pandemic levels.

nTIDE COVID Update (month-to-month comparison)

In the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Jobs Report released Friday, the labor force participation rate for working-age people with disabilities increased from 35.6 percent in August 2021 to 36.4 percent in September 2021 (up 2.2 percent or 0.8 percentage points). For working-age people without disabilities, the labor force participation rate decreased from 76.8 percent in August to 76.5 percent in September 2021 (down 0.4 percent or 0.3 percentage points). The labor force participation rate is the percentage of the population that is working, not working and on temporary layoff, or not working and actively looking for work.

“People with disabilities appear to be recovering faster than people without disabilities. In fact, their labor market engagement is now surpassing their pre-Pandemic levels,” emphasized Andrew Houtenville, PhD, professor of economics and the research director of the University of New Hampshire’s Institute on Disability. “This is very good news!”

The employment-to-population ratio for working-age people with disabilities increased from 31.5 percent in August 2021 to 32.9 percent in September 2021 (up 4.4 percent or 1.4 percentage points). For working-age people without disabilities, the employment-to-population ratio increased, albeit slightly, from 72.9 percent in August 2021 to 73.1 percent in September 2021 (up 0.3 percent or 0.2 percentage points). The employment-to-population ratio, a key indicator, reflects the percentage of people who are working relative to the total population (the number of people working divided by the number of people in the total population multiplied by 100).

“For the second consecutive month, we have seen improvement in the employment-to-population ratio for people with disabilities,” said John O’Neill, PhD, director of the Center for Employment and Disability Research at Kessler Foundation. “This bright spot shows continued resilience among people with disabilities in the labor market,” he added. “If the COVID Delta variant wanes and vaccination rates increase, we may continue to see improvement.”

Year-to-Year nTIDE Numbers (comparison to the same time last year)

The employment-to-population ratio for working-age people with disabilities increased from 28.3 percent in September 2020 to 32.9 percent in September 2021 (up 16.3 percent or 4.6 percentage points). For working-age people without disabilities, the employment-to-population ratio also increased from 70.0 percent in September 2020 to 73.1 percent in September 2021 (up 4.4 percent or 3.1 percentage points).

The labor force participation rate for working-age people with disabilities increased from 32.7 percent in September 2020 to 36.4 percent in September 2021 (up 11.3 percent or 3.7 percentage points). For working-age people without disabilities, the labor force participation rate also increased from 75.7 percent in September 2020 to 76.5 percent in September 2021 (up 1.1 percent or 0.8 percentage points).

In September 2021, among workers ages 16-64, the 5,244,000 workers with disabilities represented 3.7 percent of the total 143,536,000 workers in the U.S.

nTIDE COVID Update – Friday, October 22, 2021 at 12:00 pm Eastern

Stay tuned for our mid-month update about the employment of people with disabilities as we follow the impact of COVID-19 and look at the numbers in more detail.

NOTE: The statistics in the nTIDE are based on Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers but are not identical. They are customized by UNH to combine the statistics for men and women of working age (16 to 64). nTIDE is funded, in part, by grants from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) (90RT5037) and Kessler Foundation.

New Christian Apologetic Provides a Rational Defense of God’s Existence

“God Is: Meditations on the Existence, Nature, and Character of God”
By Garland Grimes

“I assert the exact opposite, namely, that our lives bear the unmistakable marks of a glorious purpose.” He goes on to commit his book “to the defense of that assertion, for the earnest deliberation of those who have yet to believe and those who once believed but have lost their way.”

In Garland Grimes’ revised edition of “God Is: Meditations on the Existence, Nature, and Character of God,” he begins with a unique approach to the classical proofs for God’s existence, together with incisive reflection upon the visible evidence for a Creator and Sustainer of all things. Throughout the book, he emphasizes the spiritual dimension of the Christian faith, but he weaves into that faith the philosophical, scientific and historical basis for its fundamental premise of the existence and goodness of a sovereign Deity.

“God Is” maintains that a believer’s faith in the existence and goodness of God is more than a rational exercise, but certainly not less. It argues that the principles of human understanding are the same for the believer and the nonbeliever; but also that the journey of faith, which begins in knowing that God is, can only be completed in knowing who he is and finally loving who he is.

Addressing the contention of atheists “that human beings are the random product of cosmic forces,” Grimes says, “I assert the exact opposite, namely, that our lives bear the unmistakable marks of a glorious purpose.” He goes on to commit his book “to the defense of that assertion, for the earnest deliberation of those who have yet to believe and those who once believed but have lost their way.”

Grimes believes that honest inquiries into the nature and character of the Supreme lead inexorably to the vision of God as described in Holy Scripture, and to his divine Son, through whom he created the universe, and by whom he entered space and time in the person of Jesus Christ. In defense of this proposition and in his appeal to skeptics, Grimes relies upon the evidence of history rather than an a priori acceptance of the Bible.

Ultimately, “God Is” helps readers to understand what orthodox Christianity teaches about the nature and character of God, but also why these teachings matter and how they are known to be true. By the end of the book, readers will appreciate Grimes’ underlying thesis: that our most fundamental need as human beings, individually and collectively, entails the intimate knowledge of divine Being.

Why Give to Church? New empty tomb Video Explores This Annual Fall Topic

How does The African Queen relate to church giving?

Pew and Gallup research, the 1951 movie The African Queen, and the 2003 movie Seabiscuit, among others, are cited in the discussion.

Each fall, the annual Stewardship Sunday ritual is observed in churches across the U.S.

Members and attenders are asked to commit their financial support for the coming year.

In these changing times, more people want an answer to the question: Why give to church?

A new five-minute video explores the answer.

Such support can no longer be taken for granted. The video considers why that matters to the entire quality of life in the U.S.

Pew and Gallup research, the 1951 movie The African Queen, and the 2003 movie Seabiscuit, among others, are cited in the discussion.

The video also considers a change in perspective that can help the church recover a core purpose in serving a critical need in Jesus’ name. The result could lead not only to financial support but also increased vitality.

Angels among Us” is an engaging Christian fiction with a layer of suspense

News Image

“Heaven’s Gift: Angels among Us”: an engaging story of faith and God’s will. “Heaven’s Gift: Angels among Us” is the creation of published author Scotty Strickland, a loving husband of fifty-three years who retired from civil service and currently enjoys serving as deacon and Sunday school teacher at a local Baptist church.

Strickland shares, “Throughout the book of Providence, we constantly saw the great provision of God in the lives of the Jacoby and Bronson families. They were two families whose lives were brought together by marriage and became intertwined in an undying friendship. We saw that God was always there in the valleys and on the mountaintops.

“Now in this riveting sequel, we follow the next three generations of Jacobys as they are led by God into great service. As this story gracefully moves to and fro between heaven and earth, we will see how God not only gives us gifts of service but also gives ‘angels among us.’

“As you engulf yourself into the presence of those on earth and those in heaven, you will be spellbound by the way God brings them together. It is the author’s hope that as you read this story, you will catch a glimpse of the splendor that awaits His children and that you can feel the presence of His angels working peace and protection in your lives.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Scotty Strickland’s new book is an enjoyable short story that explores the idea of angels living amongst mankind.

Strickland’s faith and dedication to God are apparent within this agreeable narrative of the highs and lows of life.

Consumers can purchase “Heaven’s Gift: Angels among Us” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

Activate Care Announces New Community Health Intervention Capabilities in America’s First Community Care Record

Activate Care®, a leader in integrated health and social care solutions, today introduced America’s first Community Care Record, which sets a new standard for health and social care coordination and delivers a new level of community health integration. Based on feedback and outcomes data from hundreds of client organizations, Activate Care’s Community Care Record provides healthcare and social services leaders with a shared space for designing, convening, managing, reimbursing, and continuously improving social interventions at scale.

Social interventions are reshaping the community health landscape. Health and human services systems are looking to transform how they screen for social risk and intervene with local partners to address complex health and social needs, and they are turning to Activate Care’s team of experts to connect every interaction across hospitals, managed care organizations, public agencies, and social services.

Activate Care embarked on a multi-year journey to completely re-imagine care coordination for the SDOH era. Before COVID-19, the company announced its new platform technology—Activate CareHub™—that made it easy for communities to safely exchange information across sectors. Amid the pandemic, Activate Care saw rising social needs and partnered with United Way/2-1-1 organizations and other referral management platforms, helping local community services create opportunities for individuals and families to thrive. And today, Activate Care is launching the next generation of sustainable community health interventions with America’s first Community Care Record.

Where Care for the Whole Person Happens—Community Care Record, from Activate Care®

A key part of the CareHub Platform, the Community Care Record is comprised of three pillars that enable care teams across the community to work faster, smarter and intervene beyond the referral to coach and guide clients through their journey.

Integrated Client Journey (new!): The Community Care Record brings every care team stakeholder together in one shared space that is modern, efficient and intelligent to every Activate Care user in every sector—healthcare, social services, education, justice, and more. Relevant information from multiple care delivery systems is surfaced for each user, enabling privacy compliance while streamlining processes and making workflows more intuitive.

Implementation Blueprints: Based on Activate Care’s near-decade experience implementing social interventions, Blueprints translate this experience into configurable process flows for any social intervention program model. The Blueprints offer a how-to manual for program managers, enabling any community to implement effective interventions that work for every population and every health and social need, supported by services delivered by Activate Care’s team of public health professionals.

Standard Reports Library: Available since 2020, with new reporting modules added every month, the Standard Reports Library helps client organizations meet reporting needs using pre-configured elements—choose from more than 130 standard reports designed by Activate Care’s team of data analysts.

The CareHub Platform: Re-Imagined for Today’s Social Interventions

Activate Care has become the platform of choice for social interventions because of its CareHub infrastructure, which allows communities to integrate with other health and social care systems to extend capabilities that meet their specific requirements. Building upon that, the CareHub Platform elevates the user experience with Community Care Record functionality designed to enhance program performance while putting patients and clients at the center. Activate Care’s Services team then helps community leaders increase equity, streamline interventions, accelerate progress, and tell a powerful impact story.

New benefits for program managers include:

Get data from anywhere: Data is locked in different systems and interoperability is key. The Activate CareHub platform aggregates everything a care provider needs to know to start their day, including patient and client status updates and alerts to keep action items on track. Integrations with diverse systems across the community health ecosystem allow Community Care Records to populate real-time, longitudinal data from anywhere—providing an end-to-end view of a client’s journey. Moreover, Activate Care leverages modern standards of data exchange to facilitate bidirectional communication between systems, including leading EHRs and social referral platforms.

Get closure on client needs: Successful social referrals rely on the data within a community information exchange†. Activate Care’s Community Care Record streamlines data capture and sharing, giving care providers visibility into “the last mile” of care that happens beyond the referral, enabling true team-based care for social services providers. With a shared activity feed, care providers can see everything happening across all referrals and cases, even those managed by other organizations, and the key next steps in one simple view. In addition, collaboration tools built into the Community Care Record allow care providers to work together across organizations to tailor support and expertise as client needs change—reducing referral failure and client attrition.

Get reimbursed: Activate Care offers customized reporting exports and data feeds to fit the needs of every convening organization and their network of partners. Reimbursement reports can be mapped to process workflows with resulting invoices shared directly with funding partners. In addition, advanced payment models like California’s Cal-AIM are also supported, with every invoice being shared with managed care organizations in the standard 837/835 format that MCOs require. Activate Care’s community engagement and data analyst teams support community readiness and program configuration, ensuring successful adoption and sustainability with new models of care and reimbursement.

Activate Care Feedback and Outcomes Data

Activate Care users, including community health workers and case managers, are quick to note the benefits of the Community Care Record, including its ease of use, program configurability, and accessibility for clients and families. One hospital leader described Activate Care’s technology as “a great solution for the needs of [their] patients,”(1) while a care coordination director appreciated how it helps them “carefully track [their] contacts with members” (2) to meet their performance goals.

Activate Care client organizations typically experience improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and measurable outcomes, including a 30% increase in program capacity, 65% increase in client/patient engagement, 28% increase in community partnerships, and where clinical outcomes data are available, a 33% decrease in avoidable ED visits.

“We designed and built America’s first Community Care Record based on the collective feedback of hundreds of our customers, and our experience supporting the completion of nearly 10,000,000 care activities in our CareHub platform,” said Ted Quinn, Founder and CEO of Activate Care. “The communities we serve have taught us that measurable outcomes require a Community Care Record with the defined tasks, activities, referrals, and team members working within a cross-community workflow. The real work is led by community organizations addressing challenges of housing, food insecurity, and other social needs.”

Health and human services leaders interested in scaling social interventions in their communities can join the inaugural live episode of Activate Care’s new podcast series, Community with Activate Care, hosted by Activate Care’s CEO, Ted Quinn, and Chief Health Equity Officer, Dr. John Loughnane. Social Security Benefits Lose 32 Percent of Buying Power, According to The Senior Citizens League

News Image

“To put it in perspective, for every $100 worth of groceries a retiree could afford in 2000, they can only buy $68 worth today,” Johnson notes.

Consumer price index data through August 2021 indicates that the 2022 COLA will likely be about 6 percent. But soaring inflation this year has deeply eroded the buying power of Social Security benefits, according to a new update to an ongoing inflation study by The Senior Citizens League (TSCL). The study, which compares the growth in the Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLA)s with increases in the costs of goods and services typically used by retirees found that, since 2000, Social Security benefits have lost 32 percent of their buying power.

The annual COLA increased Social Security benefits in January of 2021 by just 1.3 percent. While mild inflation in 2020 did improve the buying power of Social Security benefits by 2 percentage points through the month of January 2021 — from a loss in buying power of 30 percent to a loss of 28 percent — that improvement was completely wiped out by soaring inflation in February and March of this year,” says Mary Johnson, a Social Security policy analyst for The Senior Citizens League (TSCL). Based on consumer price data through July 2021, the erosion in the buying power of Social Security benefits has deepened to 32 percent over the 21 – year period.

Social Security benefits are one of the few sources of retirement benefits to be adjusted for inflation. The intention is to protect the buying power of benefits when prices increase. But retirees frequently notice that over time their Social Security benefits don’t buy as much as they used to. This happens when the annual COLA doesn’t keep pace with the increases in costs typically experienced by older and disabled beneficiaries.

This study looks at 39 expenditures that are typical for people age 65 and up, comparing the growth in the prices of these goods and services to the growth in the annual COLAs. It includes cost increases in Medicare premiums and out of pocket costs that aren’t tracked under the index currently used to calculate the COLA.

Since 2000, COLAs have increased Social Security benefits a total of 55 percent, yet typical senior expenses through July 2021 grew 104.8%. The average Social Security benefit in 2000 was $816 per month. That benefit grew to $1,262.40 by 2021 due to COLA increases. However, because retiree costs are rising at a far more rapid pace than the COLA, this study found that a Social Security benefit of $1,671.20 per month ($408.80 more) would be required just to maintain the same level of buying power that $816 had in 2000.

“To put it in perspective, for every $100 worth of groceries a retiree could afford in 2000, they can only buy $68 worth today,” Johnson notes. To help protect the buying power of benefits, The Senior Citizens League supports legislation that would provide a modest boost in benefits and base COLAs on the Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E) or guarantee a COLA no lower than 3 percent. In addition The League has recently launched a campaign for a $1,400 stimulus check to help Americans struggling to cope with high inflation. With 1.2 million supporters, The Senior Citizens League is one of the nation’s largest nonpartisan seniors groups. Lawline makes accessibility updates to online CLE catalog

“We believe online education should be accessible to everyone, so we’re proud to make updates that improve the user experience and accessibility for all users”

Lawline is proud to announce new features to expand the accessibility of its award-winning online CLE programs. Since 2020, all new Lawline programs have included closed captioning, while transcripts were provided for older courses. Now, updates make it easier to find programs with closed captioning, to request captions for older courses, and allow users to follow along with closed captioned courses via an interactive live transcript.

Lawline’s innovative site, app, credit tracker, and additional technology make CLE easy and intuitive for attorneys. With the accessibility updates, the online learning experience is easier than ever for all users, regardless of ability or circumstance. The following key changes have been made to the site: 1) attorneys with hearing impairments can sort the catalog to see which courses currently feature closed captions; 2) there is an easy-to-find feature on the site to request that closed captions be added to any course that does not already have them; 3) courses featuring closed captions also have a live transcript that follows in paragraph format, allowing the viewer to click on a portion of text and instantly rewind the video back to a particular moment in the program.

“We believe online education should be accessible to everyone, so we’re proud to make updates that improve the user experience and accessibility for all users,” said Richard Hernandez, Lawline’s Chief Operating Officer.

In addition to meeting the needs of all attorneys with hearing impairments, Lawline now also provides accessible options for those who have visual impairments (which include a screen-reader option for JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver and TalkBack); motor impairments and cognitive disabilities (assistive features for attorneys with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, CVA among others); and epilepsy (modified site to eliminate risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations).

Lawline’s comprehensive accessibility statement outlines their commitment to accessibility for all people, and details the many options available to those with visual impairment, hearing impairment, motor impairment, aural impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more. With more attorneys completing their CLE online than ever before, Lawline is dedicated to giving every attorney the best online learning experience possible.
