Those Who Seek Unity in the Body of Christ will be Interested in its Beginnings

This book presents a case, based primarily upon the contents of the Apostle’s letters, the Gospel narratives, and previous Scripture, that there is a greater sense of unity to God and His Word than is commonly taught today.

Author Jacob Mckessey shows the continuity of God’s plan and His Word in Way of Truth ($12.49, paperback, 9781662848483; $5.99, e-book, 9781662848490).

If asked when the Christian church began, most would answer that it was founded in the first century by the Apostles and other early followers of Jesus. Mckessey argues that “the Way” was founded long before that and followed by other biblical heroes, such as Abraham and Elijah.

“This book presents a case, based primarily upon the contents of the Apostle’s letters, the Gospel narratives, and previous Scripture, that there is a greater sense of unity to God and His Word than is commonly taught today. When this unity is grasped and applied to the lives of the faithful, there can be a greater sense of unity among God’s people,” said Mckessey.

Jacob Mckessey was raised as a Christian and has pursued his passion for studying and sharing Scripture for over half his life. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration and served for six months as a volunteer for an ecumenical Christian charity.

Spanish Social Stories for Special Needs Kids from EasySocialStories.com

“It was demonstrated that social stories are effective in positively changing behaviors, teaching social skills, communication and tasks as well as decreasing anxiety in the child.”- James Madison Universityhttps://commons.lib.jmu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1110&context=honors201019

EasySocialStories.com, a company who’s been creating social stories for over 10 years, is translating their stories into Spanish in an effort to support special needs kids in the Hispanic Community. Owner, Carole Cherry says, “The need among Hispanic families for this kind of support was brought to our attention by a bilingual friend and neighbor with an autistic brother. They have a new baby in the house and she used our story to help him understand the new baby rules. She was impressed and delighted to see that after using “Let’s Talk About the New Baby” with him, she could see him washing his hands before touching the baby and observing the rules in the story.”

As the mother of a non-verbal, autistic child, Carole started writing social stories to help her daughter understand appropriate behavior in new or challenging environments. Today she has over 50 titles that include a wide range of subjects like “Let’s Talk About Frustration,” “Let’s Keep Our Hands to Ourselves,” and “Let’s Get a Blood Test”. As her daughter grows, new titles reflect the needs of older children, such as “Let’s Listen to Others” and “Let’s Do a Good Job at Work”.

“We have a good start with 15 titles now in Spanish,” Ms. Cherry reports. “New stories will be added quickly, as we translate the full catalog of titles, making all of our special needs support web sites, fully bilingual.” In fact, Carole has gathered all the tips and tricks she’s used over the years with her own family into a suite of largely free, informational web sites that address issues like nutrition tips and provide resources for games that teach kids how to read and use the computer to learn online.

All of the social stories from EasySocialStories.com, and now HistoriasSocialesFaciles.com, are very inexpensive ($3-5 each), reusable, and instantly downloadable, even from a phone. It’s like having a pocket professional for the most challenged parents. All stories translated by a native speaker here in Sonoma CA.

Operation Dry Water reminds boaters that impaired boating is impaired driving

Operation Dry Water - National Safe Boating Week

Operation Dry Water – National Safe Boating Week

National Safe Boating Week is a perfect time to remind people about the dangers of boating while intoxicated. We are really excited to have NASBLA partnering with MADD to help further the message that impaired boating is just as dangerous as impaired driving.

Impaired boating continues to be a leading known contributing factor in fatal recreational boating incidents.* Operation Dry Water (ODW) is proud to join boating safety advocates nationwide during National Safe Boating Week, May 21 – 27, 2022, to remind boat operators and passengers of the dangers associated with boating under the influence (BUI). As part of the upcoming holiday weekend, boaters from across the country will head to the water while honoring, celebrating and remembering all those who lost their lives serving our country.

As part of National Safe Boating Week, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) will be representing the Operation Dry Water campaign at the kickoff event for the first-ever Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) boating under the influence prevention campaign, “BUI = DUI, Know Before You Boat.” The campaign launch will take place on May 26, 2022, with a press conference at the Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach, Missouri, led by MADD National President Alex Otte, who was nearly killed by a drunk boater on July 2, 2010, when she was 13 years old. MADD will host a press conference where victims of impaired boating crashes, area law enforcement, the U.S. Coast Guard, NASBLA and other guests will help reinforce the importance of protecting the boating public from impaired boating.

“National Safe Boating Week is a perfect time to remind people about the dangers of boating while intoxicated. We are really excited to have NASBLA partnering with MADD to help further the message that impaired boating is just as dangerous as impaired driving,” says Lt. Kenton Turner, Chair of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators. “The Operation Dry Water campaign encourages all boaters to stay sober, always wear a life jacket when on or around the water, and to take a boating safety course prior to departure.”

Operation Dry Water, NASBLA’s national boating under the influence awareness and enforcement campaign, works year-round to facilitate increased public awareness of the dangers associated with impaired boating and heightened enforcement of boating under the influence laws. Alcohol consumption while boating is not only dangerous for the operator of the vessel, but also for passengers.** Impairment can lead to slips, falls overboard, injuries and deaths that could have been prevented. When alcohol is involved, the risk of dying is the same for an impaired operator and an impaired passenger, and for men and women.**

This year will be the 14th annual Operation Dry Water heightened awareness and enforcement weekend, taking place nationwide July 2 – 4. Operation Dry Water provides a variety of free resources for the both law enforcement and outreach partners to use in educating boaters about the dangers of boating under the influence. Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies can register to participate in Operation Dry Water at operationdrywater.org.

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) coordinates the Operation Dry Water campaign, in partnership with law enforcement agencies and outreach partners nationwide, through a grant from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Operation Dry Water (ODW) is a year-round boating under the influence awareness and enforcement campaign with the mission of reducing the number of alcohol and drug-related incidents and fatalities through increased recreational boater awareness and by fostering a stronger and more visible deterrent to alcohol use on the water.

Kelvin T. Darden’s newly released “The Expectations of God” is an engaging discussion of living in the world without becoming of the world

News Image

“The Expectations of God”: an encouraging approach to living a godly life. “The Expectations of God” is the creation of published author Kelvin T. Darden, a devoted husband and father who has a career in the plumbing industry and also serves as a dedicated pastor.

Darden shares, “Living up to people’s expectations is never a good idea. As a Christian, I myself had to learn that you can’t make everyone happy, because what one person likes, another may dislike the same thing. As Christians, we need to do the things that are pleasing to God. We need to know what’s expected of him. However, Christians seem to try to please people more than God.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Kelvin T. Darden’s new book will encourage and challenge believers to take time to reflect on how they are truly working to live for God.

Darden presents a concise and articulate discussion in hopes of helping readers nurture a strong connection with God’s promise.

Consumers can purchase “The Expectations of God” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

His Faith His Family His Foes” is an engaging discussion of the connection between Christians and the eagle

News Image

“The Eagle Christian: His Faith His Family His Foes”: a uniquely encouraging discussion of faith. “The Eagle Christian: His Faith His Family His Foes” is the creation of published author Harold O’Chester, a graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, where he received his BA degree in 1954. He entered the New Orleans Baptist Seminary in 1955 and received the Master of Divinity degree in 1958; after which, he received his Doctor of Divinity degree from the California Graduate School of Theology in 1981. O’Chester is also a United States Navy veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War. He is happily married to a loving wife, Barbara Jean, and together they share three grown children.

O’Chester shares, “On Thanksgiving Eve, November 1955, I regained consciousness in a hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I was aching all over after a horrifying car wreck. When I asked about my family, I was told they had gone to be with the Lord—my wife, two children, and an unborn child. My first response was to say, ‘Let me die too.’ My second response was ‘Why did God do this?’ An old preacher said to me, ‘Young preacher, you’re going to have to wait on the Lord.’ As I studied the Bible for ‘wait,’ I came to Isaiah 40:31. It became my life’s verse.

“‘But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint’ (Isaiah 40:31).

“When I took a strong stand against the burning of seven Black churches in our county by the KKK, again I had to wait. They took a contract out on my life in 1968. I was under FBI protection for eighty nights.

“To soar like eagles is the goal of every Christian according to the Bible. Eagles, bold in nature, majestic in all they do, relentless in endurance and, above all things, breathtaking in flight—and we are to be like them. Wow!

“Of all the birds God created, the eagle is perhaps the most fascinating. The eagle must exercise the wisdom God has given to him as he chooses a mate, disciplines his children, and fights the many natural foes of his life. It is not coincidence that God would liken his believers to such an amazing creature. Riding lofty thermals to the heavenly heights, how can it be that we were also meant to soar on the wings of faith, prayer, and praise to greater heights of spirituality?

“Come with this author and take a journey into the mighty eagles’ domain, leaving the plains of spiritual mediocrity behind. Come learn what it means to soar with eagles, renewing strength, and being all God desires you to be.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Harold O’Chester’s new book offers readers a unique viewpoint and optimistic message of faith.

O’Chester presents a compelling argument for the connection between God’s people and the eagle within this articulate work.

Fable introduces Pathways platform to help advance careers of people with disabilities

A laptop computer displaying a video of an instructor. Fable logo and text reads: Introducing Fable Pathways

FablePathways.com

Fable’s goal with Pathways is to create the go-to resource for people with disabilities interested in advancing their careers in the tech sector.

To mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day, leading accessibility start-up Fable is launching Pathways. Fable Pathways is a skill development program created by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities. Courses are free to take and boast a Masterclass quality of video production.

The purpose is to empower and excite people with disabilities to pursue a career in the technology sector. In 2021, according to the US Department of Labour, 19.1% of PWD in the US were employed, compared to 63.7% of people without a disability. Similarly in Canada, according to Stats Can, 59% of people with disabilities were employed, compared to 80% of those without disabilities (while the rate of employment for persons with more severe disabilities was even lower).

Today Fable Pathways is launching with two courses. The first is “Getting started in web development” in partnership with Microsoft, which introduces VS Code and GitHub to screen reader users. Course instructors are specialists in their fields, and offer their expertise with the nuance of having built that knowledge as someone with a disability:

“Working with Fable to create my course was an enjoyable and rewarding experience. My hope is that the course provides the skills and coaching needed for learners to advance to their next level. Knowledge and my experiences are rewarding for me to share and Fable Pathways allowed me to do just that.” – Kelly Ford, Senior Accessibility Program Manager at Microsoft and Instructor, Fable Pathways

The second course released today is “Becoming a manager”:

“One of the most critical components of management is communication, and I’ve had a unique journey of building that skill as someone who’s hearing impaired and have relied on assistive devices since I was six years old. I’m thrilled to share what I’ve learned, and truly hope to see more people with disabilities in leadership roles in the tech sector.” — Kate Kalcevich, Head of Accessibility Innovation at Fable and Instructor, Fable Pathways

The launch of Pathways comes on the heels of Fable closing a $10.5M USD Series A financing round, announced earlier this week. The round was led by Five Elms Capital, with participation from Difference Ventures, Disruption Ventures and notable angels including John Ruffolo, one of Canada’s most prominent investors and an advocate for accessibility and inclusion.

“People with disabilities are underemployed and Fable’s in a unique position to influence that, while growing our business. Our goal with Pathways is to create the go-to resource for people with disabilities interested in advancing their careers in the tech sector and this is a great first step.” — Abid Virani, COO and Co-Founder of Fable

Fable Pathways is supported by ServiceNow, MIT Solve and the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work.

Fable Pathways is now available at FablePathways.com.

About Fable

Since 2018 Fable has been helping enterprises build accessible user experiences by engaging with people with disabilities throughout the product development cycle. Organizations work with Fable to make products more accessible for over 1 billion people who live with disabilities. By doing so, Fable provides flexible work opportunities to people with disabilities in the technology sector.

Outreach Judaism and Jesus” is a compelling argument for the similarities between Judaism and Christianity

News Image

“The Third Day: Outreach Judaism and Jesus”: a potent argument against the separation of religious doctrines. “The Third Day: Outreach Judaism and Jesus” is the creation of published author Roger Garza, a lay teacher and philosopher who writes about issues that challenge Biblical orthodoxy in order to provide readable clarifications that encourage readers to find or maintain sound doctrine.

Garza shares, “There is a reason why most analysts of biblical prophecy can’t figure out how Christians and Jews can ever unite. The reason is that they are missing a piece of the prophetic puzzle. A piece that is so obvious I can only conclude that God hid it in plain sight, in the Scriptures – and is only now making it known to the world as a whole rather than just a select few. The fact is that both the Old Testament and the New Testament proclaim that in the last days, Gentiles and Jews will come together into one family and will together worship the One True God.

“Most Jews assume that this will happen when Christians (and all other Gentiles), finally realize that they were wrong, when Christians finally realize that Jesus was not the Messiah, and convert to Judaism. Most Christians assume that this will happen when Jews finally realize that they were wrong, accept Jesus as the Messiah, and convert to Christianity. At this point in history, either alternative seems highly unlikely.

“But what if there is a third alternative – one that lets Jews remain Jewish, Christians remain Christian, and yet puts us all into one united family of God? In this book you will learn:

  • How the same type of scholarship that is used to refute Christianity refutes Judaism also, and the same type of scholarship used to support Judaism supports Christianity as well.
  • How the Christian doctrines of the Trinity and the Incarnation do not contradict Jewish monotheism as defined in the Old Testament.
  • How the completeness and finality of Old Testament Law can be reconciled with the apparently contradictory statement that Christ has inaugurated a better Covenant (Hebrews 8:6)

“It is my belief that once the ideas proposed in this book are received and applied, the world will awaken from the nearly 2,000 year old nightmare of fear and mistrust between Christians and Jews, and our mutual thirst for the arrival of the Messianic Age will finally be quenched.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Roger Garza’s new book is an articulate and encouraging exploration of scripture.

Garza prepares a thoughtful and considerate study within the pages of this enjoyable challenge to common assumptions.

Consumers can purchase “The Third Day: Outreach Judaism and Jesus” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

will transformation start in Bali?

A community in Indonesia is running a disaster risk reduction simulation drill ©DiDRR Consortium

“…[W]e must admit that little has been achieved around the inclusion of persons with disabilities in disaster preparation, response, and recovery,” said Vladimir Cuk, Executive Director of the International Disability Alliance.

“It has now been 7 years since we were in Sendai, Japan to discuss how to build a more resilient world while facing more disasters. In 2015, IDA, as an organization of persons with disabilities, was excited to see strong provisions on disability-inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction in the Sendai Framework. But packing for Bali to discuss progress in implementing what we had agreed in Sendai, we must admit that little has been achieved around the inclusion of persons with disabilities in disaster preparation, response, and recovery,” said Vladimir Cuk, Executive Director of the International Disability Alliance (IDA).

Recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic and concerned how to tackle climate change, world leaders, civil society and United Nations agencies are gathering in Bali, Indonesia to participate in the Seventh Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (23-28 May 2022). The theme is “From Risk to Resilience: Towards Sustainable Development for All in a COVID-19 Transformed World”.

In this altered world, human rights are as relevant as ever in emergency response and Disaster Risk Reduction. Respecting and upholding human rights is a pre-condition to ensuring that the different requirements of the population – before, during and after emergencies – are taken into account and contribute to strengthening resilience, particularly for the most marginalized groups.

Persons with disabilities, particularly in the Global South, are disproportionately affected by disasters, facing higher risk of death, injury, displacement, and property loss. Discrimination based on disability, age and gender often combines with other indirect forms of discrimination, denying people their right to assistance, protection, and participation in disaster management.

The preparedness and mitigation mechanisms addressing disaster risks are still not inclusive of the rights of persons with disabilities. As a result, persons with disabilities are more likely to be left behind during emergencies, with a death rate at least twice as high as that of the general affected population. Covid-19 has shown a blatant example of how pre-existing patterns of discrimination and exclusion have had a disproportionate impact on persons with disabilities, particularly underrepresented groups.

Ensuring inclusion and participation of all persons with disabilities in situations of risk and during emergency response is laid out in Article 11 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and must be considered a core component of principled and effective humanitarian action, including Disaster Risk Reduction.

IDA, a representative organization of more than 1,100 organizations of persons with disabilities worldwide, believes that an effective Disaster Risk Reduction is the one that addresses the root causes of disasters – which lay in societal vulnerabilities, in unaccommodated needs, disempowered strengths and unbuilt capacities of the population at risk.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has clearly shown that a paradigm shift must occur in dealing with global-scale humanitarian and environmental crisis. The only successful way to overcome and prevent such crisis is one that does not leave anyone behind. Where persons with disabilities and their representative organizations are recognized as agents of change, they have the opportunity to serve in leading positions to tackle global problems, and their experiences are valued in all sectors of life,” said Cuk.

IDA calls on all participants at the Global Platform to bring human rights back into the conversation, by following a “twin-track approach” to Disaster Risk Reduction, as enshrined in the Convention. Empower people with disabilities by building capacity and reducing vulnerabilities, on one side. Develop inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction policies to increase awareness of people’s requirements and capabilities and improve the preparation and training of disaster practitioners, on the other.

Ensuring a human rights-based and disability-inclusive perspective in pre-emergency phases is crucial to effectively protect persons with disabilities during the most acute phases of the emergency – choices made during the preparation stage have crucial repercussions on durable reconstruction and on the long-term mitigation of human suffering. We will not achieve a sustainable and resilient society if all human rights of all persons are not protected, respected, and upheld.
