Ride with us!

“We’re proud to have provided 31 scholarships to date to an amazing group of young students, and bring them into the Lime Connect community as they navigate university.” – Mike MacKay, Lime Connect global board chair

Lime Connect will host its fifth annual Ride to Rebrand Disability on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at The Bike Lane in Reston, Virginia. Designed as a great ride (10-, 30-, 62- and 100-mile routes) for a great cause, cyclists will enjoy the gorgeous northern Virginia foliage along the W&OD Trail and suburban streets with rest stops and rider support along the way.

Post-ride festivities include lunch from Mission BBQ (Herndon), music, massages, and beer specially brewed by Bike Lane Brewery – in addition to fun swag and giveaways. “The Lime Connect Ride is probably the best I’ve ever done. It’s a great ride through the Loudoun County countryside, and I’m riding again this year!” stated Dave Duvall, Lime Connect Ride participant.

Those who are not able to join in person have the option of riding virtually – anywhere in the world – between September 8th and October 8th. An “Anything Goes” option allows individuals to rack up miles by walking, running, using a wheelchair, Peleton, or any form of mobility.

Proceeds benefit Lime Connect’s work to rebrand disability through achievement – specifically the Lime Connect Pathways Scholarship for high school seniors who have disabilities and are entering university. Mike MacKay, Lime’s global board chair, says, “we’re proud to have provided 31 scholarships to date to an amazing group of young students, and bring them into the Lime Connect community as they navigate university. Our goal for 2022 is to fund an additional 15 scholarships, so join the challenge – set up a team, ride with friends and family, and rebrand disability with us!”

Prizes are awarded for the top fund raiser, and top fundraising team; and giveaways include a Yeti 12 soft cooler, Loctote bike locks, gift certificates to Mission BBQ Herndon and The Bike Lane, and more. Individuals who raise $500+ will receive a coveted “500 Club” cycling jersey. (Fundraising is not required to ride.)

The Lime Connect Ride to Rebrand Disability is presented by Bloomberg, and sponsors include Google, NEA (New Enterprise Associates), The Meridian Group/The Boro, The Bike Lane, Unilever, EX2 Adventures, Loctote, Mission BBQ (Herndon), Salesforce, Select Physical Therapy, and Synergy Fitness Training.

To learn more, register to ride or volunteer, and/or donate, go to this link.

About Lime Connect: Lime Connect is a global not for profit 501(c)(3) organization that’s rebranding disability through achievement. We do that by attracting, preparing, and connecting high potential university students and professionals – including veterans – who happen to have all types of disabilities for scholarships, leadership programs, and internships & full time careers with our corporate partners – the world’s leading corporations.

A Way into Your Soul with Poetry, Prayer and The Lord Jesus” is an inspiring and vibrant poetic experience

News Image

“Gospel Poetics: A Way into Your Soul with Poetry, Prayer and The Lord Jesus”: a spiritually inspiring examination of St. Matthew’s Gospel. “Gospel Poetics: A Way into Your Soul with Poetry, Prayer and The Lord Jesus” is the creation of published author Frederick Preston Annie, who was born on a small family farm near Coal Mountain, West Virginia. Annie has been a student of architecture, literature, and theology and has served as a Catholic priest for over forty years. In 2006, he was named a Prelate of Honor by Pope Benedict XVI. He is now retired and resides in Charleston, West Virginia.

Annie shares, “This book of poetry is an opportunity to search for meaning in the Gospel of St. Matthew and a way to explore your soul.

“St. Mathew’s Gospel is a rich and fertile field producing abundant insights into life and the human condition. These poems cultivate this wisdom and translate it into poetry, amplifying its meaning and adding contemporary context and color. Once engaged in the poetic, the reader is offered additional insights generated by their own excited imagination. To aid the imagination, I have added an original abstract painting to each poem to enhance the experience.

“This experience of the Holy can be a path into the soul. Deep at the bottom of each of us is that spark of eternity that can only be ignited by the gift of faith. It is my hope that these poems will encourage the reader to examine that divine mystery that is planted deep within us by the very Word of God.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Frederick Preston Annie’s new book will uplift and encourage readers in their faith while offering a fresh experience with the Gospel of St. Matthew.

Annie draws from a lifetime of biblical study and prayer to bring readers an encouraging message of fulfillment found within faith.

Breaking Out of Fear” is a powerful testimony of the author’s personal experience with God

News Image

“The Encounter: Breaking Out of Fear”: a powerful testament to the power of the Holy Spirit. “The Encounter: Breaking Out of Fear” is the creation of published author Lizette Gallagher.

Gallagher shares, “I honestly hope this book would inspire you in your journey with the Lord. The purpose of this book was to let others know God’s existence, let others know how God can just come into your life and show his existence.

“I remember when he first appeared to me, he showed me the words that I had written on the book and then showed me the vision of a huge bridge, and in the vision, the bridge was made out of the cross, and inside the bridge were the words he instructed me to share with the world, and He wanted me to let everyone know we all already have everything we need to continue walking with God inside that bridge, but in order to receive it, we have to believe in God to enter. We must surrender to God, so therefore we must die from self, to live for God. I know it is not easy, but if you believe in his word and if you surrender and allow the Holy Spirit to enter, the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth, and when you know the truth, then and only then, you shall be set free. So trust and know that the Lord has set us apart.

“So when you are through with this book, you will see the words that the Father has spoken that had not yet been heard on earth, and then you shall know that the Lord is the Lord and his existence is real.

“God bless you.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Lizette Gallagher’s new book is an empowering message of faith for those facing uncertainty.

Gallagher brings a fresh and open discussion of God’s intervention within her life in hopes of encouraging and helping others.

Author takes global dictators to task and calls out misguided policies

News Image

Samuel Chen announces his return into the publishing scene with the release of “How to Destroy America” (published by Archway Publishing), a book that calls out the misguided policies of Donald Trump’s America and argues that the country’s survival depends on reversing course.

Chen who escaped from China after being forbidden to leave, calls out the folly of Trump’s policies in this book, arguing that in this age of the internet, America needs to flex its muscles on behalf of freedom. He emphasizes that the world is a global village and everyone is interconnected and inseparable. He argues that Trump’s arbitrariness, and arrogance will have inevitably led the United States into decline. He believes that as president, Trump even became friends with rogue countries, emboldening bad behavior from other nations.

“How to save the United States is the responsibility of the American people in later generations. If we fail to learn the lessons of history, the future America will always experience new tyrants and tyranny,” Chen says. He adds, “There is no any thinker or any writer in America who can see the changing world as well as I do.”

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, Chen answers, “God wants to test the loyalty of humankind and arranges for a lot of devils and sufferings to appear. In the midst of trouble, we can only maintain faith, hope, love, and joy. May the Lord bless us all.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.archwaypublishing.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/823161-how-to-destroy-america

With Rising Concerns About Dyslexia in Young Learners, Riverside Insights Introduces First-of-its Kind Playbook to Streamline Evaluations

Riverside Insights

Evaluators need effective and efficient assessment tools to ensure that all students are accurately identified and get the help they need.

Riverside Insights®, a leading developer of research-based assessments and analytics, today debuted a new Assessment Playbook focused on streamlining the evaluation of dyslexia, the most common learning disability, affecting 20% of the population. The new playbook makes assessments more effective and efficient by providing a recommended process for selective testing and a specific test list for querying the most salient features of dyslexia.

“The pandemic disrupted teaching and learning, and has led to a dramatic increase in the number of students who are referred for dyslexia evaluations by their teachers and/or parents. Consequently, evaluators must determine if a student’s reading difficulties are primarily a reflection of this disruption or an indication of a true reading disability,” said dyslexia expert Dr. Nancy Mather, a professor in the College of Education, Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies at the University of Arizona. “To address this issue and the increase in assessment referrals, evaluators need effective and efficient assessment tools to ensure that all students are accurately identified and get the help they need. In this way, children can be provided with systematic interventions prior to experiencing chronic reading difficulties.”

In the 2021-2022 school year, more than 20 states – including California, Florida, Texas and Connecticut – updated their dyslexia legislation, passing new codes and statutes to support more effective identification and intervention practices to address the increasing dyslexia referrals.

Practitioners also face increased pressure from concerned parents. A recent U.S. News & World Report article highlighted how parents are struggling to understand why their early reader is struggling and what’s a cause for concern. With the learning disruption of COVID-19, parents are trying to differentiate between reading challenges from circumstances versus causes for further concern and the need for evaluations.

To support more focused evaluations, the Riverside Dyslexia Assessment Playbook provides:

An Assessment Guide, describing how each test informs the comprehensive assessment of a specific condition for a particular group of students, including early childhood, ages 7+ and English language learners (ELL)

Profile Sheet, enabling practitioners to organize their data, and facilitating analysis and interpretation of test results

Product List, offering a recommended list of tests for dyslexia so that practitioners can quickly gather and use data needed to influence student outcomes

In response to the increased challenges faced by school-based practitioners, these resources go beyond what is currently available by providing a detailed explanation on how specific elements of each test contribute to a comprehensive evaluation to provide essential information to inform instructional planning. Additionally, the profile sheets provide practitioners a useful tool to organize their assessment data to facilitate interpretation. Tests recommended in the playbook are tailored to the needs of practitioners working with early childhood, 7+ and ELL populations.

For more information on the Riverside Dyslexia Assessment Playbook, please visit the Riverside Insights website.

Author Pens Part One of a Fictional Yet Fact-Filled Book Series Combining Christian Themes With History

News Image

First, I want to credit the Lord with giving me the desire to just sit down and put my thoughts on paper.

Author Larry Trapp introduces the premier book in his entertaining Christian fictional series, The Harlin Saga Part One: Sara’s Legacy ($16.99, paperback, 9781662858000; $7.99, e-book, 9781662858017).

Part one of Trapp’s Harlin Saga series begins with a story that demonstrates the courage and endurance of a young Mid-Western woman named Sara Harlin. Readers will follow Sara’s journey from leaving her parents who disowned her, to arriving at the silver mining town of Virginia City, Nevada, and then onto the gold stampede of the Alaskan Territory. Danger and hardship are persistent on this trek, but Sara courageously faces the challenges and navigates unbelievable odds to secure her godly legacy. Readers will enjoy every page of this action-packed adventure as Sara enters a new era of America’s past. What will Sara do and how much will she risk to save the life of a newborn baby? How far will she go to fulfill the charge of Matthew 25:40? This book provides a lesson of overcoming challenges and learning a legacy of redemption and Christian heritage at the turn of a new and modern century.

When asked what inspired the author to write this book, Trapp said, “First, I want to credit the Lord with giving me the desire to just sit down and put my thoughts on paper. But there are two things that I am passionate about: fictional literature and historical veracity. In other words, I wanted to write a book, or series of books, that are challenging to Christians, fictional in structure and true to the facts.”

Larry Trapp was born in California and has spent his entire life, other than his service in the U. S. Army, residing less than 50 miles away from his birth city of Bakersfield. Trapp earned a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management from the master’s University in Santa Clarita, California. During his 22 years of teaching at Heritage Oak School in his hometown of Tehachapi, he earned a Master of Education from Ashford University. Teaching at a Classical Christian school allowed Trapp to teach both literature and history, along with Bible.

Trapp felt the desire to write so he followed this endeavor to become an author. In doing so, he spent a long period of time formulating and planning his Harlin Saga trilogy. Trapp’s passion is reading literature and history, along with music. He also enjoys playing electric bass guitar in his church’s worship team. He also played bass guitar in a semi-professional Contemporary Christian Band called, “Secondwind.” The band released 3 albums with many original songs written by Trapp or his brother.

Author Tracy Peay’s new book “I’m Still Here” is a searing memoir of his family’s struggles with addiction and his journey toward recovery with the help of his faith

News Image

Tracy Peay, a survivor born into a family of eight in a small town in northern Utah, has completed his new book “I’m Still Here: A Glimpse into My Life as a Drug Addict and My Journey Back through Christ”: a heart-wrenching autobiography about a family devastated by intractable addiction and the author’s own path toward healing and recovery.

The author shares, “This author has been through the valley of the shadow of death. When I chose to use illegal drugs, I lost. I lost my whole family to drugs, except for my dad. I lost my jobs, my marriages, my children; I lost two brothers (from drug overdoses and alcohol poisoning), and my mom died of transverse myelitis all within a six-month period. I lost a nephew a few years later (from a drug overdose).

When you choose illegal drugs, you choose death—death of body and spirit. Your life will look like a battlefield with bodies of your friends and family strewn about. I lost my dignity and self-respect and nearly my own life many times. I thought the only answer to every problem was suicide. If I got arrested, I took pills to try to overdose; if I had a conflict with anyone, I tried to kill myself. Even if I had a toothache, I tried to slit my wrists. I did die several times but was revived. I ran from the law, was arrested, and spent time in jail several times. I lost my apartments and became homeless.

You would think God was not with me during these dark times, but He was. I called on Him many times through prayer, and He was always there. Satan was with me also, and I felt shear evil when I saw Satan face-to-face once. But I also felt unspeakable joy when I saw Jesus Christ face-to-face. It was a hard journey to find Christ, but I read my scriptures, studied, and prayed. Remember, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). And know that you are a “child of God”—a child of a King—and you have royal blood running through your veins. The worth of your soul is great. Jesus Christ is your shepherd, and He goes after lost sheep and brings them back to His fold. He may not come in person to save you, but He will send someone, as he did for me. Nathan, working with the bishop of our church, was the man (my personal angel) who took me off the streets when I was homeless. I will ever be grateful.

I believe ‘I’m Still Here’ because Christ wants me to teach others what I have learned about the destruction that comes to you when you make drugs the center part of your life instead of Christ. I can tell you that the only way back from addiction to drugs is through Jesus Christ.”

Published by Page Publishing, Tracy Peay’s engrossing book is an inspiring true story of perseverance, hope, and faith throughout an extraordinary life journey.

The author’s wish is that his book be used for good. He would like every parent, grandparent, and spouse to have his book in their bookcase to hand out to anyone who is considering doing illegal drugs or wants to come back from addiction. Young kids are making their choice to use drugs and alcohol as young as 9 years old – the age that the author was introduced to drugs. He would like his book to go into jails and prisons and to be used by counselors and in 12-Step programs.

Readers who wish to experience this engaging work can purchase “I’m Still Here: A Glimpse into My Life as a Drug Addict and My Journey Back through Christ” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
