Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Latricia M. Peter’s new book provides readers with an intimate look into the author’s personal and spiritual journey of healing through God’s light.

Peter shares in hopes of offering an encouraging hand to others who have faced similar tragedy so they too can find peace and fulfillment through God.

Village residents have clean water access thanks to the Salesian Missions ‘Clean Water Initiative’

News Image

“Water projects in Zambia and around the globe ensure people coming to Salesian parishes, schools, and centers have access to the water they need. This brings a sense of hope and dignity to the people Salesians serve,” said Father Gus Baek, director of Salesian Missions.

ZAMBIA: Village residents have clean water access thanks to the Salesian Missions ‘Clean Water Initiative’

Project provided funding for a new borewell, water tank and pump.

More than 300 residents of the Kamakuti village in Kabwe, Zambia, have clean, fresh water thanks to the Salesian Missions “Clean Water Initiative.”

The project provided funding for a new borewell, water tank and pump in the village, which hosts one of the Salesian St. Mary’s Parish village chapels. Salesian Missions is the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

St. Mary’s Parish has four village chapels where priests meet people on a weekly basis for catechesis, prayers and sacraments. During the weekdays, the Salesian community utilizes these chapels for daily meetings and fellowship. Local women also use the chapels as meeting places and children’s preschools.

The villages lack basic services including water, proper sanitation and transportation. There is also a lack of education facilities for children, and people travel long distances to access a health center.

This is the first time this community has clean fresh water. Women and children will no longer have to travel a distance to bring back water to the village. Mr. Kasongo, a long-time village resident, could not believe that running water was now available. Another woman shouted, “Our children will live!” Children are often given the only water available from unsafe shallow wells, which can cause health complications that impede their growth.

“We appreciate our donors who have supported this water project,” said Father Gus Baek, director of Salesian Missions. “Water projects in Zambia and around the globe ensure people coming to Salesian parishes, schools, and centers have access to the water they need. This brings a sense of hope and dignity to the people Salesians serve.”

Poverty is widespread in Zambia with 64 percent of the total population living below the poverty line. For those living in rural areas, the poverty rate rises to 80 percent, according to UNICEF. Over the past three decades, incomes in Zambia have fallen steadily and people do not have enough money to meet basic needs such as shelter, nutritious food and medical care.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic has also taken a devastating toll on Zambia’s children. There are 1.2 million children classified as orphaned and vulnerable by UNICEF, and these children struggle to find education, basic services and hope for their future.

GHA Releases Major Golf Rule Changes For 2023

GolfHandicapAssociation.com (GHA) made changes to the rules of golf that haven’t been seen in over a century for 2023.

GHA’s new rules of golf changes are sure to either be loved or hated by golfers and tournament organizations worldwide. These are not your normal small incremental changes. These changes fundamentally change the way the game is played in many aspects.

From increasing the maximum number of clubs golfers can carry from 14 to 18 clubs, eliminating 2 stroke out of bounds, free drop for balls in divots in the fairway, lift rake and place in bunkers, 3 putts max, no limit on driver COR, MOI, increasing max driver cc’s from 460 to 600cc’s, free relief from roots and rocks, no groove restrictions, allowing alignment sticks, green slope measuring devices, elevation, and information processing devices and making golf carts legal for tournament play, these changes are sure to turn heads.

Even tour players like Casey Martin (Denied Use Of Golf Cart) and Phil Mickelson (Slams Golf Club Restrictions – ‘This is Pathetic’) have recently vocalized their frustration with the way tournament organizations are limiting technology and refusing to relax ancient rules. The GHA apparently heard them along with the 60 million other golfers worldwide who have had to abide by tournament rules put in place to test the top .01% of golfers.

But this isn’t the first time the GHA has taken the game of golf a huge leap forward. They’ve also been offering free handicaps since 2009 and they were the first to offer instant handicap revisions, while the rest of the industry made their players pay $40-$100+ per year and wait on recurring 2 week schedules to get updates to their handicaps!

Clarksburg Church Hosts Groundbreaking for Community Site: The Clarksburg Yard

In 1994, a Master Plan was set for Clarksburg, MD to become “the final frontier.” In the Master Plan, seven specific values were outlined to guide the development of the rural area into a large-scale town with a projection of 14,000 housing units and 43,000 residents. One value included developing the land in a way that “provided for attractive land uses that encouraged opportunities for social interaction and promoted community identity.” Clarksburg is the fastest-growing community in Montgomery County, MD, and in 2020, the population swelled to over 8,000 households and over 25,000 residents, experiencing an 80% increase in 10 years.

During this fast-paced growth, the focus on building houses overcame the need for the development of community space. The Clarksburg Yard, scheduled to be completed in 2023, it is designed to foster community. Clarksburg Church will develop the front of their property for this community space. Clarksburg Church is located along the heavily trafficked 355 bike path, next to Clarksburg High School, within walking distance of two other middle schools and several new community developments.

Nature Sacred selected The Clarksburg Yard as their newest community partner and Sacred Place. According to Nature Sacred, “A Sacred Place is bonded together by a common goal: to reconnect people with nature in ways that foster mindful reflection, restore mental health, and strengthen communities.”

Nature Sacred is an active leader in establishing the design for The Clarksburg Yard and will seek feedback from community members regarding this new community space. Nature Sacred has granted The Clarksburg Yard $50,000 in design services to beautify this space. In addition to the outdoor space, The Clarksburg Yard will include bathrooms and a full-service cafe.

Through polls, conversations, and activities, attendees at the groundbreaking will be able to provide feedback and share their hopes and visions for the outdoor space.

The Clarksburg Yard will begin development during the public Groundbreaking located at Clarksburg Church, 22820 Frederick Rd, Clarksburg, MD, on December 4, 2022. Please pre-register for the free event to ensure enough food is available.

New Religious Book Delves into the World of Understanding Biblical Forgiveness

News Image

“Granting forgiveness too early releases the guilty party from any responsibility for their actions, withholding forgiveness may cause us to become bitter within ourselves”

Bill Ricksecker was going through a dispute with his local church; he was an outcast, labeled a heretic and his pastor was unforgiving of him, all because of one subject: biblical forgiveness. Taking this experience and using it as fuel, Ricksecker was inspired to write “Illustrating Forgiveness: Understanding Biblical Forgiveness and Reconciliation.”

Ricksecker believes that there may be some unanswered questions about forgiveness after his first book “Desperation of Doctrinal Reformation”. Over the course of nine chapters, Ricksecker threads the needle between granting forgiveness too early and withholding forgiveness.

“Granting forgiveness too early releases the guilty party from any responsibility for their actions,” Rickecker said. “While withholding forgiveness may cause us to become bitter within ourselves.”

Ricksecker elaborates on the Old and New Testaments to guide his readers to gaining a deeper understanding of reconciliation in their own lives and biblical forgiveness towards others. He believes that today’s psychology has “warped” biblical forgiveness to be more about the offended rather than the offender.

“Society has become more focused on self rather than the concern for others,” Ricksecker said. “We have become selfish rather than selfless.”

Harmony House changes name, with vision of helping those gain freedom from homelessness

Harmony House is now Wayfinders Ohio

We want to be able to treat the whole person –- identify and address the issues that precipitated their homeless situation, so we can help ensure lasting freedom from homelessness and instill the confidence in them that they can become and remain independent members of our community.

To show proper representation to all their services and better highlight their mission, Harmony House Homeless Services is excited to announce they have changed their name to Wayfinders Ohio.

“We do so much more than exclusively provide shelter to the homeless population. And we just felt the old name didn’t accurately represent the full scope of what we do here,” said Executive Director, Kelly Blankenship.

The name Wayfinders Ohio is meant to represent how the shelter not only provides safe housing but also helps individuals and families experiencing homelessness find their way back to the life they want to live.

“The vision we have for Wayfinders is to do more than just get people off the street for a short period of time,” said Blankenship.

“We want to be able to treat the whole person –- identify and address the issues that precipitated their homeless situation, so we can help ensure lasting freedom from homelessness and instill the confidence in them that they can become and remain independent members of our community.”

To do this, Wayfinders Ohio makes sure to adhere to the needs of each individual that walks through the door. They focus on the immediate needs of the person first — providing a warm bed, clean clothes, food, a shower and more so they can take a moment to breathe and rest.

After a few days, the Wayfinders team will begin to work with them to better understand their circumstances and individual needs. They work together to create a custom plan that works through the obstacles standing in their way to long-lasting freedom from homelessness. Often that means connecting them with the resources that will be right for them, including various types of medical care, employment training and education, legal help, addiction services and more.

These resources already exist but are spread throughout the community. Issues like access to transportation and technology can make it difficult for a homeless individual to easily connect to the resources they need. That’s why it’s important that a shelter brings all of these elements together in one place.

Wayfinders Ohio is changing the story to helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and with that, a name change was necessary.

With the name change they are excited to also announce a brand new website where you can find more information about their vision and specific services. To help support transformation and freedom, learn more about becoming a Wayfinders supporter.
