God put it on my heart to write the book.

Author Essence C. Atkins provides readers with a thought-provoking devotional in I Am: 31 Daily Reminders of Who You Are in Christ ($12.49, paperback, 9781662841545; $5.99, e-book, 9781662841552).

This beautiful book written by Atkins offers spiritual affirmations aimed to uplift, encourage, and motivate readers. Her powerful words will help people focus on the “good” while more importantly, seeing and believing it. Her positivity combined with a strong faith makes this devotional very special – an impactful start to the understanding that surrounding oneself with positivity attracts more positivity.

“God put it on my heart to write the book,” said Atkins. “And when I thought about what spoke to me during that season, I knew it was to be a book of affirmations supported by what God says in His word. And it all just came together after that. I love how God works.”

Essence C. Atkins grew up in Severn, MD and currently resides in Northern Virginia with husband and two sons. Having attended Catholic elementary school and high school, she grew up knowing about God. However, it was later on in life that she realized that she needed to come to know Him and build a relationship with Him for herself. It took Atkins some years, but in 2013 she began that journey and life hasn’t been the same since. Knowing who she is in God has been a game changer and through her writing, she can now share that with others. It began with Facebook and then the idea for this book was born. Her hope is that she can inspire others and help them start their own journeys or enhance the journeys they are already on. Atkins enjoys spending time with her family, and can often be found cheering for her youngest son and his basketball team. She also enjoys reading, watching true crime shows, and giving back.

Kenneth Lancelot Leach’s newly released “And Few There Be That Find It” is an engaging discussion of the Bible with unique takes

News Image

“And Few There Be That Find It”: a potent reminder of God’s word and the importance of following one’s faith. “And Few There Be That Find It” is the creation of published author Kenneth Lancelot Leach.

Leach shares, “This book is different from any other you may have encountered in your lifetime! I have studied the Bible (KJV) for over 60 years. I speak neither Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic, but I have spent thousands of hours engrossed in listening to sermons preached by men with a level of education (Piled, Higher, and Deeper) than my two years of college. During my years of service in the U.S. Navy, I had the privilege of visiting Athens, Greece. While there I climbed Mars Hill, and standing in the footsteps of Paul, I imagined myself speaking to a large group of people. Of course, this was only in my imagination. I have learned since then, that “rightly dividing the word of truth” does not mean that you cut the Bible down the middle, throw out what we call today the ‘Old Testament,’ and study and live by only what is written in the New Testament. I eventually came to the uncomfortable conclusion, that my understanding of the Holy Scriptures was more accurate than 99% of what is being taught today. Has Yeho-vah hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and has revealed them unto a babe? (Matthew 11:25 & 26) You decide.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Kenneth Lancelot Leach’s new book is a compelling series of reflections based on sixty years of careful study.

Leach writes in hopes of engaging the mind and emboldening the spirit of readers everywhere.

Consumers can purchase “And Few There Be That Find It” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

Peter Bellone’s newly released “A Layman’s Challenge to the Rapture Theory” is a compelling discussion of scriptural understanding

News Image

“A Layman’s Challenge to the Rapture Theory”: an articulate examination of what is known of the Rapture Theory. “A Layman’s Challenge to the Rapture Theory” is the creation of published author Peter Bellone, a veteran of both the Marines and the US Air Force who served for a total of twenty-one years, including two tours in Vietnam.

Bellone shares, “Christian doctrine teaches that one day in the unforeseen future, Jesus Christ is going to appear in the clouds above the earth; and with a shout, he is going to rapture (catch up) all Christians! Then in a moment, they are going to rise and join Jesus in the air, and then be taken to heaven, where they will forever be with the Lord. This English word rapture is a translation of the Latin word Rapiemur, which also is a substitute for the Greek word harpazo, which means ‘to be caught up’ which is taken from Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, referring to the fact that Jesus is going to ‘catch up’ all Christians living and dead! It is also possible that the use of the term Rapture in describing this event, was used, because in the English language, Rapture means an intense feeling of pleasure or joy! This Rapture theory was first championed in the early 1800s by a Protestant clergyman by the name of John Darby, who was recovering from an illness. And while studying his Bible, came upon the realization that Jesus was going to first come for his saints, take them to heaven, and then, sometime later, Jesus was going to return to earth, defeat Satan, and then the end of the world was going to come about! It is this theory that has been taught to Christian church goers throughout the ensuing years. And with this rapture, there is a secondary teaching that when Jesus comes for his people, there will be many airplanes, trains, and automobiles that will be driver/pilot-less and will go crashing to the ground, killing untold millions all over the globe. It is with this information in mind that we explore the truth of this Rapture theory and if what Mainstream Christianity and John Darby taught is true or not. We will look at all the relevant scriptures pertaining to this theory, which then brings us to look at God’s seven annual holy days. Why, because these days reflect the plan of God for the redemption of all mankind and points us toward this day of rapture! Therefore, the object of this book is not to titillate you about Jesus’ secret coming as others have done, nor to scare you if you were to be left behind! No, the purpose of this book is to teach you the truth of what really happens when this day finally arrives! In addition, it is important to understand what exactly is salvation, and this rapture theory definitely pertains to your salvation! Therefore, you deserve to know the truth because everything else takes you away from God, and it is the truth that will set you free!”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Peter Bellone’s new book will challenge believers to consider a new perspective on a commonly accepted theory.

Bellone shares in hopes of helping others to reach an understanding of God’s word.

Consumers can purchase “A Layman’s Challenge to the Rapture Theory” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

ATS Reaffirms Accreditation for FHU’s Graduate School of Theology

FHU students Anna Holland, Mary Beth Seibel, Kenneth Moore and Daniel McMillin visit at the FHU Bible Lectureship. Moore, an FHU Graduate Theology student, spoke on “The 10 Lepers” Feb. 7, 2022.

The Association of Theological Schools/Commission on Accrediting has reaffirmed the accreditation of Freed-Hardeman University’s Graduate School of Theology for the next 10 years, until March 31, 2032. FHU President David R. Shannon was notified by a letter from James Moore, ATS Director of Accreditation.

The reaffirmation followed a November 2021 visit from a four-member ATS team. They had reviewed a document of nearly 1,000 pages before interviewing administrators, faculty, staff and students. In addition to the 10-year reaffirmation, ATS approved all graduate programs currently offered through the FHU School of Theology. This includes the newly launched Doctor of Ministry program that begins this fall, according to Dr. Justin Rogers, director of FHU’s Graduate School of Theology.

In addition to the D.Min., FHU offers five master’s degree programs: Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in New Testament, Master of Arts in Old Testament, Master of Arts in Ministry and Master of Arts in Pastoral Care and Counseling.

The ATS committee encouraged FHU to maintain the following distinctive strengths of the program: longstanding commitment to the priority of biblical studies and faithful adherence to the doctrinal distinctives of its primary constituency, the churches of Christ; the helpfulness and timeliness of library staff in responding to information requests; the spirit of collegiality among faculty and administration; the progress made by FHU in promoting faculty scholarship; and the significant resources made available to the Graduate School of Theology by virtue of its being embedded in a growing university with much larger financial, human, library and technological resources. University of San Francisco Announces Janet & Clint Reilly as Recipients of the 2021 Leo T. McCarthy Center Award for Public Service

The Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good at the University of San Francisco (USF) has announced Bay Area philanthropists Janet and Clint Reilly as the recipients of the 2021 Award for Public Service.

“Janet and Clint Reilly have a long history of uplifting and supporting future leaders from underserved communities throughout the Bay Area. We have absolutely appreciated their continued support of Leo T. McCarthy Center and USF,” stated McCarthy Center Senior Director Derick Brown. “It’s an honor to further acknowledge their work and the support they have continued to provide our society.”

The Leo T. McCarthy Award for Public Service is awarded biannually to those whose work makes a difference in the lives of people most affected by injustice. The award recognizes persons of significant accomplishment who continue to lead for progressive change serving the common good. Like the award’s namesake, winners inspire others to lead, devote their energy to equity and justice, and maintain the highest ethical standards in their personal and professional lives. Public service is defined broadly to include persons in government, philanthropy, education, and the nonprofit world.

This year’s award recipients, Janet and Clint Reilly, founded Bay Scholars, a nonprofit that creates educational equity for students from underserved communities through four-year scholarships to successful Catholic college-prep high schools in the Bay Area. Bay Scholars’ formula is to recruit great students, connect them with great schools, and remove the greatest barrier to education — cost. To date, Bay Scholars has awarded more than $7 million in scholarships. The Reillys also tirelessly devote their time and resources to numerous other charitable organizations.

Janet Reilly is the co-founder and board president of Clinic by the Bay, a free, volunteer-powered health clinic for the working uninsured in San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Established in 2010, Clinic by the Bay is 100 percent privately funded and does not rely on government funding. Clinic by the Bay is located in the Excelsior/Outer Mission neighborhood of San Francisco, a medically underserved area with few health and social services.

In 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Ms. Reilly to the University of California Regents for a term expiring in 2028. From 2015-2018, Ms. Reilly served on the Presidio Trust Board of Directors, a position she was appointed to by then-President Barack Obama. Previously she was director of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District from 2003 to 2015, where she was president of the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2012. She is currently an advisory board member of the Walt Disney Family Museum and the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good, and a board member of the CommonSpirit Foundation.

Clint Reilly is the founder and owner of a diversified family of commercial real estate, hospitality and media businesses in San Francisco. His wholly owned portfolio includes five office buildings in the Financial District and Jackson Square, as well as the historic Julia Morgan Ballroom and Merchants Exchange Club event venues. Reilly’s media holdings include the 156-year old San Francisco Examiner, the SF Weekly and Nob Hill Gazette. The company also owns and operates Credo restaurant. Reilly was named by San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area’s “Most Admired CEOs” in 2018.

Clint Reilly is a current member of the Board of Directors for the Bay Area Council, also serving on the Advisory Board of UC Berkeley’s Robert T. Matsui Center for Politics & Public Service, as well as USF’s President’s Advisory Board. A strong supporter of the arts, Reilly also serves on the accessions and collections committees for the SFMOMA, and on the board of the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis. He served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of San Francisco from 1997-2006, including as President of the Board—the first layperson to hold the post—from 2002-2006. Clint and Janet Reilly founded the Archbishop’s ‘Loaves and Fishes’ Dinner as part of a fundraising initiative that erased a multi-million-dollar operating deficit and put the social services arm of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco on solid financial footing. Catholic Charities, whose door is open to all, operates approximately 30 programs serving 40,000 people in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties. Clint also served as president of the board of directors of the Oakland Military Institute, a successful charter school in northwest Oakland.

Prior to his current business career, Reilly was one of the country’s foremost political consultants, with Clinton Reilly Campaigns helping elect a series of leaders who would go on to become champions for families, the environment and the poor, including U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Dianne Feinstein.

The Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good is dedicated to inspiring and preparing students at USF to pursue lives and careers of ethical public service. The McCarthy Center provides a forum for education, service and research in public policy-making and programs for the common good, supporting undergraduate and graduate academic programs, service learning, and government experiences for students.

Leo T. McCarthy, Speaker of the Assembly from 1974 to 1980 and Lieutenant Governor of California from 1983 to 1995, was a man of great political wisdom and personal integrity. He began his career in the 1960s as a San Francisco supervisor and was instrumental in establishing the city’s Human Rights Commission and keeping freeways out of Golden Gate Park. He was a champion of people without a voice and those pushed to the margins.

USF will officially present Janet and Clint Reilly with the Leo T. McCarthy Award at an event to be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022, celebrating the center’s 20th anniversary and its mission to train a new generation of leaders dedicated to ethical public service. Bringing together civic leaders, dignitaries, philanthropists and McCarthy Center supporters, the event will be emceed by Scott Shafer of KQED.

The Lost Consciousness” is a Scripture-based work urging believers to reconnect their severed bonds with God

News Image

Augustus Brown II, a pastor who has served and volunteered in over thirty churches across the United States and has worked for railroads in California and Minnesota, has completed his new book “The Fallen Angel Man: The Lost Consciousness”: a thought-provoking discussion of twentieth and twenty-first century mores that create a spiritually tragic distance between people of all faiths and God.

The author writes, “People are suffering here in America and abroad. Global warming, mass conflicts, increased domestic and foreign murders, governmental corruptions, starving nations, global wars coupled with global warming, the consciousness of the men attempting to turn into women, and the consciousness of the woman falling from her place to be as a man, all of these are threats against our survival of tomorrow.

Wars are now fought with computerized drones overseas. Drugs, gangs, killings, police shooting coupled with political protection are ravishing the land of equal rights under the symbol of the eagle. These are biblical signs of the realities of the problems and conditions that should tell us all something is very wrong. The major questions are, can the human race avoid self-destruction? And if so, does our salvation rest in relying on a higher power to ensure future generations have a world that’s worth living in under the laws of man? For too long we the human family have collectively functioned like lost children, but, some as prodigal sons, even as fallen angels. However, our earthly existence isn’t random coincidences, for it is not, all of these conditions of the man that’s upon this earth are a one chance to learn and understand what it is to live in equality under the original orders and commandments of God the creator and those of Jesus Christ the savior of all men.

Personally, I believe that God is humanity’s best hope for survival. The book’s title ‘The Fallen Angel Man’ essentially refers to mankind’s disconnect from his creator. Within its pages you see vivid examples of, among other things, our moral decadences, and I’d dare say that only a willingly blind person would fail to see the consequences all around us from a severed spiritual bond. Whether you believe in divine solutions or you prefer a more ‘common sense’ approach to fixing society’s problems in playing eternal death roulette, feel free to criticize these books. Even disagree with some of the subject material as presented. These books explain the fallen consciousness of the man and that of those of the billions of rebellious and fallen angels that turned against the perfect laws and orders of God. Don’t be surprised to find the pages inside stroking your curiosity to read on into these six volumes.”

Published by Page Publishing, Augustus Brown II’s engrossing book is a thought-provoking choice for Christian readers.

Readers who wish to experience this engaging work can purchase “The Fallen Angel Man: The Lost Consciousness” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

Everrick R. Simmons’s newly released “God, You Ain’t Enough for Me” is an engaging memoir that explores the author’s journey back to God

News Image

“God, You Ain’t Enough for Me”: a gripping reminder of God’s promise of salvation. “God, You Ain’t Enough for Me” is the creation of published author Everrick R. Simmons, a loving husband and father who served as a civil engineer, force protection and safety technician, and first sergeant over the course of a twenty-four-year military career.

Simmons shares, “This book came from a revelation God gave me in November 2020 as I was meditating on the Word of God for a message I was scheduled to give for my church anniversary. I was reading Genesis 3:6: ‘When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.’ The Holy Spirit highlighted the words and he ate it. I had read this passage and heard it preached hundreds of times, but when God gives you a revelation of his Word, it changes your life. The Holy Spirit confirmed through my pastor/prophetess that I needed to write this book because too many people are struggling with the decision to continue to swim in their sinful desires versus living for God.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Everrick R. Simmons’s new book will encourage and challenge readers who may feel they have fallen too far from God’s grace.

Simmons shares a vivid picture of a life lived in sin and how God finally found him once again.

Paula Johnson’s newly released “Impending” is a compelling discussion of spiritual warfare and the dangers of the unseen forces of Satan

News Image

“Impending”: a potent reminder of the need to arm oneself with the armor of God. “Impending” is the creation of published author Paula Johnson, a loving mother, grandmother, and dedicated foster mother.

Johnson shares, “Do you ever feel that you are being attacked by unseen evil forces in your mind, body, and hear voices repeatedly in your head? Some people are under demonic oppression, who do not know how to get free and are enduring the various degrees of torment that Satan and demons inflict. Impending is a book written to expose Satan and his kingdom of darkness and to show people how to get free spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Jesus Christ warns us that we have an enemy (Satan, the devil). ‘The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)’ (John 10:10 AMPC). Whether you need deliverance or have a desire to help set others free, Impending provides solutions for defeating Satan and his kingdom of darkness.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Paula Johnson’s new book is an informative exploration of the many facets to faith that can protect one.

Johnson shares in hopes of helping others find salvation and protection through God’s promise.
