Natural disasters are devastating to all, and it is imperative that we unite as Christians in bringing hope and much needed care to our fellow brothers and sisters who have been impacted.

Christian Community Credit Union (CCCU) donated $5,000 to American Baptist Home Missions Societies (ABHMS) relief effort in response to the devastating flash floods throughout Eastern Kentucky. The unimaginable levels of destruction have led to the loss of lives, hundreds of homes destroyed, and the displacement of thousands of residents.

The funds for the donation come from CCCU’s “Cards that Give to Missions” program, in which a portion of the Credit Union’s interchange income (fees merchants pay to card issuers) is donated when cardholders use their Christian Community Credit Union-issued credit cards for purchases.

“Our prayers are with those impacted by the recent floods in Eastern Kentucky,” said Blair Korschun, Christian Community Credit Union President and CEO. “Natural disasters are devastating to all, and it is imperative that we unite as Christians in bringing hope and much needed care to our fellow brothers and sisters who have been impacted. I encourage you to join CCCU in making a difference by donating to ABHMS or other organizations to help victims of the Kentucky floods.”

“I want to thank CCCU for their bounteous financial contribution to disaster relief for victims of the devastating floods in Eastern Kentucky,” says Dr. Jeffrey Haggray, Executive Director of ABHMS. “This $5,000 gift not only advances our One Great Hour of Sharing offering considerably—it reflects CCCU’s long-standing generosity in partnering with American Baptists to address human needs in times of crisis.”

Being a teacher to babies up to two year olds as well as a Spanish teacher to all ages; I’m always making up stories and songs, some longer than others. Most of my writings do rhyme. Most of my writings are meant to be serious, but there are a few silly writings and songs included. Most of my poems have history and biblical references to them. Of course, there are romantic poems and a fairy-tale story.

“My writings include poetry, songs, and a story. All three categories have both English and Spanish included in them. My creative writings are meant for all ages, male and female, believers and nonbelievers. They’re also for mothers and fathers, grandparents, and children. The poetry part of my book is broken down into four chapters: preaching/sharing the gospel, educational, holiday, and random things that inspired me. The songs are all Christian-based songs. All my writings have some sort of message to them. With four chapters of poems, three chapters of songs, and one chapter with a story, my creative writings are full of wonders that come from the heart and give hope and encouragement.”

United Methodist Communications to Host Podcast-a-thon on August 2, 2022

The 2022 United Methodist Podcast-a-Thon will be August 2 on the ResourceUMC Facebook page.

The 2022 United Methodist Podcast-a-Thon will be August 2 on the ResourceUMC Facebook page.

Our hope with the Podcast-a-thon is to build some awareness around these independent voices and build a sense of connection and community amongst our podcast creators and our audiences,” says the Rev. Ryan Dunn, Minister of Online Engagement.

United Methodist Communications has announced plans for the inaugural United Methodist Podcast-a-thon event to take place on August 2, 2022.

The day-long event will showcase eight podcasts from the United Methodist general agencies delivered via Facebook Live on the ResourceUMC Facebook page.

“One of the wonderful aspects of podcasting relates to the independence of the medium: anybody can start and build a podcast. Because of this independence, we have a diversity of United Methodist-related voices and topics in podcasting that have all sprung up organically,” says the Rev. Ryan Dunn, Minister of Online Engagement, who hosts two of the podcasts. “Our hope with the Podcast-a-thon is to build some awareness around these independent voices and build a sense of connection and community amongst our podcast creators and our audiences.”

The schedule for the day features podcasts designed to inspire your faith and strengthen leadership (all times in Central Time Zone):

  • 10 AM: Pastoring in the Digital Parish (United Methodist Communications) – Creating contemplative community online
  • 11 AM: Get Your Spirit in Shape (United Methodist Communications) – Talking ministry with men with Greg Arnold
  • 12 PM: Faith Talks (United Women in Faith) – A conversation with United Women in Faith
  • 1 PM: MyCom Church Marketing (United Methodist Communications) – How We Work – Tik Tok with Piper Ramsey-Sumner
  • 2 PM: Un-Tied Methodism (General Commission on Archives and History) – Exploring the roots of The United Methodist Church
  • 3 PM: Voices from the Field (United Women in Faith) – Our giving at work in the world
  • 4 PM: Church is Changing (Discipleship Ministries) – Host Paul Nixon explores digital church with Justin Cason
  • 5 PM: Compass (United Methodist Communications) – The church, the state, and the label of “Christian”

(times/podcasts subject to change)

“The topics for the day are varied. We’ll have episodes on monastic digital communities, United Methodist history, insight for church leadership, and wariness of the label ‘Christian’ in today’s culture,” said Dunn. “Each podcast has its unique niche and flavor. So the Podcast-a-thon offers an assortment of ideas and expressions, but there’s also a sense of unity in working towards the goal of being a better church and growing in our faith. It’s a cool analogy for what we seek to do as United Methodists.”

More information can be found at ResourceUMC.org/pocdast-a-thon. Attendees can also set a reminder for themselves via a Facebook event page.

The event’s location, Facebook.com/ResourceUMC, is the social media profile companion to ResourceUMC.org – a centralized portal to equip United Methodist leaders with helpful information and tools from the official agencies and across the connection.

An Enthralling and Relatable Autobiography

News Image

I hope my book will inspire others to live more cautiously and to listen to that little inner-voice they hear that may keep them safe – the voice of God! I used excerpts from prayer journals and daily writings to give context and shape to my story, which I feel must be shared!

Author Rachel E. Ford, ThM, shares compelling autobiographical accounts from her life in My Journey with God: A Twisting, Turning Tale of Tragedy and Triumph! ($16.49, paperback, 9781662852046; $7.99, e-book, 9781662852053).

Ford survived many episodes of trauma and tragedy, coming through each experience stronger than she ever imagined. The situations that she encountered, some she describes as miracles of God, allowed Ford to move forward on her journey with God. She shares how God’s strength and guidance brought her through the emotional trauma of two sexual assaults, her role as a firefighter and her experiences in the Unites States Air Force (USAF). She shares the emotional story of when her younger son survived a life-threatening situation through what Ford refers to as “a miracle of God.” Equally powerful is her retelling of experiencing an armed robbery while dining out with her husband and friends. This tragic incident involved the shooting of their friend as he bravely fought to save them. Ford says of herself, “Wherever I have been, wherever I may go – God will lead me in the right direction if I can but listen for His whispers.”

“The tragedy I have experienced was mostly preventable,” said Ford. “I hope my book will inspire others to live more cautiously and to listen to that little inner-voice they hear that may keep them safe – the voice of God! I used excerpts from prayer journals and daily writings to give context and shape to my story, which I feel must be shared!”

Rachel E. Ford belongs to a multi-generational, multi-racial and multi-faith family of people who identify straight or gay or choose not to identify, members with a variety of diagnoses, abilities and educational levels. Since age six, when she was Baptized along with her four siblings, she has been led by God, through triumph and tragedy. She considers God, her rock and her strength. She is elated to share this book with all readers.

After Ford retired from 30+ years in Social Services, she received her bachelor and master’s degrees and Ordination from a small non-denominational Church. She provided a ministry of free counseling throughout the pandemic. She currently is the owner/operator of an online coaching, counseling and wellness training practice called Radiant Journey to Wellness. For more information, visit radiantjourneytowellness.com.

Her immediate and large extended family is her greatest joy in addition to serving God through Church and her practice. She is a gifted seamstress and quilter. She finds legislative advocacy enthralling and it rewarded her with a Joint Resolution from CA Senate & CA Assembly.
