Pathways to Marriage” is a moving tale about how the Lord filled the gap inside the heart of one woman

“The Desire of My Heart: Pathways to Marriage”: an inspiring tool that helps build a discourse about dating and forming healthy and meaningful relationships with partners. “The Desire of My Heart: Pathways to Marriage” is the creation of published author Lindsay Jones, a writer who holds a master’s degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest and has a passion to support the youth in their walk with God. She enjoys fine arts and loves Italy.

Jones shares, “As a young child, I always hoped to be married, so much so that I made it my life’s purpose to pursue my husband. However, there was one thing wrong with this: I saw men as a pair of shoes—you try one on, till you find the one that fits. Over the course of my young life, God corrected my view of men. I had several hard lessons to learn along the way. I invite mothers and daughters to walk with me on my journey and to learn from my mistakes.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Lindsay Jones’s new book is a great source of knowledge that illuminates a subject that needs discussion in order to find safety and love within relationships.

This work aims to help the young women who struggle to find their identity and place. Also, it will build conversations between mothers and daughters or among small groups as it opens the topic of dating.

Church Petitions Nation’s Governors to Allow for Weddings to be Legally Officiated on Zoom

Logo symbol of the Universal Life Church

Universal Life Church Symbol

“We have always pioneered the use of technology to radically change the ways in which we gather, worship, and celebrate as a society, and we’re not done fighting yet.”

The Universal Life Church Ministries (ULCM) this week officially petitioned the Governors of 47 states to adopt new rules allowing marriage ceremonies to be legally solemnized via videoconferencing software tools like Zoom in response the the Covid-19 crisis.

In its announcement the ULCM cited the wide availability of technology that could facilitate the virtual solemnization of wedding ceremonies, but alleges that it is still illegal in the majority of states. Because many states continue to either ban or discourage gatherings of unrelated individuals, they argue, couples who would otherwise marry are forced to either violate orders or risk the safety of their community by gathering to obtain a valid officiant signature on their marriage license.

To their letter, the attorneys for the Universal Life Church Ministries attached the recent order issued by Governor Gavin Newsom of California, suggesting that other states that have not yet issued orders in this area might use it as a guide to formulate their own policies. Governor Newsom’s order allows for wedding ceremonies to be officiated and witnessed remotely via videoconferencing.

The Universal Life Church Ministries frequently takes legal action to protect the rights of their ministers and members around the world. Most recently, they filed a lawsuit against the State of Tennessee after the legislature in that state passed a law stating that ministers who were ordained via the internet were not qualified to officiate legal wedding ceremonies in the state.

The Universal Life Church Ministries is perhaps most widely known for its provision of ordination online to anyone who “feels so-called” on its websites like http://www.ULC.org. It claims to have ordained over 20 million ministers. Ministers of the ULCM are frequent fixtures in the wedding announcement pages of newspapers around the country, as they are often asked to perform highly-personalized legal wedding ceremonies for friends and family members. In its announcement, the Church states that it has “…always pioneered the use of technology to radically change the ways in which we gather, worship, and celebrate as a society, and we’re not done fighting yet.”

Luxury Bags, Couture and Accessories | Made in the USA

When the pandemic hit, we put our 20th anniversary plans on hold. Like so many, we had to figure out how to keep our Made in the USA team employed and contribute to the universal effort to create a better tomorrow, while being sensitive about marketing luxury goods in the midst of this crisis.

JAMAH, an American luxury handbag brand that is celebrating 20 years of being made in the USA, has announced the launch of two initiatives designed in response to COVID-19. The brand is honoring mothers and fathers by donating 20% of their sales in May and June to Feeding America, in addition to launching the “JAMAH Honors Heroes Giveaway” on social media, in an effort to tell the stories of people on the frontlines of fighting the virus.

“When the pandemic hit, we put our plans to celebrate JAMAH’s 2020 – 20th anniversary on hold and turned our focus to what was now in front of us,” said Nancy Gale, JAMAH’s founder and designer. “Like so many small businesses, we had to figure out how to stay in business, keep our Made in the USA team employed and contribute to the universal effort to create a better tomorrow, all while being sensitive about marketing luxury goods in the midst of this crisis.”

The company’s response was to design two programs whose success would help keep the focus on JAMAH, its values, on what they do and what they offer, while helping to feed families and honor frontline heroes.

Initiatives:

  • JAMAH honors mothers and fathers by donating 20% of sales to Feeding America
  • JAMAH honors frontline heroes

JAMAH Gives 20% to Feeding America in honor of Mother’s & Father’s Day

In celebration of Mothers and Fathers everywhere, 20% of all JAMAH sales will be donated to Feeding America for the months of May and June. JAMAH recognizes how fortunate we are and how devastating it would be be to not be able to feed one’s family. At the same time, many can still enjoy gift-giving, while savoring life’s little pleasures and the occasional extravagance, especially when an additional beneficiary makes it a conscientious indulgence.

JAMAH Honors Heroes Giveaway

All of the individuals on the frontlines of this pandemic deserve our gratitude, praise and support.

Who do YOU think is an outstanding example of a hero who is contributing to the fight against COVID-19? Are they a nurse, an EMT, a doctor, a civilian who is making masks or perhaps an entrepreneur who has pivoted their business to help the cause?

Help share their stories and sing their praises by nominating someone for the #JAMAHHonorsHeroes Giveaway. One winning frontline hero will receive a customized JAMAH luxury bag with a personal inscription!

To nominate a hero:

1. Follow JAMAH on Instagram, Facebook or both

2. Reply to one of the posts and tell us who you want to honor and why

3. Tag your nominee

4. Tag @jamah

5. Use #JAMAHHonorsHeroes

JAMAH will contact the nominees and share their stories online. The winner will be announced later this year.

“With small businesses employing 47.5% of our nation’s workforce and consumer spending driving 70% of our economy, it is paramount to find ways to stay in business,” continued Gale. “At the same time, we need to be mindful of how we market a discretionary, luxury product in the current environment. Internally, we are focusing on strengthening our business model so that we come through this with our team intact. We remain committed to being a model of a strong, principled, American luxury brand that links cause with commerce and conscientiousness with consumption.”

Heartly House’s Affair of the Heart Gala Transitioned into Virtual Event

News Image

“This event is all about community awareness and education.” – Niki Thrash, Director of Development, Heartly House

Heartly House–an organization that provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse–held their Affair of the Heart Gala this past weekend to raise awareness and funds for their critical work in the Frederick community and beyond.

“This event is all about community awareness and education,” said Niki Thrash, Director of Development for Heartly House. “We want to open the conversation about the crimes that happen behind closed doors. We have to stop it from being a secret so that we can save lives and help individuals and families begin to heal by providing a continuum of high-quality, evidence-based, trauma-informed services for victims and survivors.”

Historically, the event has served as the organization’s annual fundraiser. However, after Gov. Larry Hogan announced restrictions on gatherings in response to COVID-19, the Heartly House team jumped into action to take the event online. With just under six weeks to transform a physical event into a virtual one, the gala had to be completely reimagined.

The team at Heartly House first reached out to all of the event sponsors. Without the cost of catering, cocktails, and entertainment, the funds needed to be reallocated to audio/visual services and updated marketing efforts. Sponsors of the event, including Leidos (Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research), Audio Video Group, The Frederick News-Post, Law Offices of Kaslick & Prete, LLC, In Honor of Her, and many other local businesses and individuals signed on to continue their support of a virtual event. With the help of Postern, Heartly House was able to update advertisements and marketing messages well in advance, and with the help of Audio Video Group, the event was pre-recorded and streamed on LiveStream, a video streaming platform.

Because the event would be streamed online for free, the team reached out to ticket purchasers to offer a refund or the option to donate the amount of their ticket. Each ticket purchaser graciously agreed to donate the cost of their ticket–a true testament to our community’s generosity.

The organization also received a grant from the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County, which was partially matched by the Frederick News-Post, to enable the launch of the #StillHere campaign, a marketing initiative promoting Heartly House’s services during this unprecedented time.

“While the stay-at-home order is meant to keep people safe, home isn’t a safe place for everyone. It feels like this event couldn’t be more timely to bring about awareness, discussion and hopefully, financial support,” said Thrash.

The event recognized Rachel Louise Snyder, author of No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us, and advocate for those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence. Snyder was interviewed in advance of the event by Patrick Mendonca, a WFRE radio personality and long-time supporter of Heartly House, and recorded by Audio Video Group. Originally booked as the event’s emcee, Mendonca was excited to help take the event online.

Following the event, sponsors and donors will receive a signed copy of the book, which will be hand-delivered, if possible, by the Heartly House staff in order to save funds for services.

“Rachel was thrilled to know we were finding a way to hold the event and willing to help in any way she could,” said Thrash. The books were sponsored by In Honor of Her and purchased by Curious Iguana, a downtown Frederick bookstore, passing on the wholesale price to Heartly House.

When you are bold enough to innovate, you will need that same boldness to endure the hurdles common to innovation. This was the case with the technology utilized during the Affair of the Heart Gala. During the live stream, there was a brief and unfortunate outage. If you joined in for the event Saturday night, we truly thank you for your commitment of time, and we ask you to please visit the website to see the video in its entirety.

While this event was delivered online, Heartly House is still working out the details to take all of their services online as well.

During this difficult time, Heartly House is still open and operating for anyone in need. If you or a loved one is looking for support, you can reach out via their 24/7 hotline at 301-662-8800, or visit them online at http://www.HeartlyHouse.org.

Fewer births, fewer children in U.S. to have profound impact at state level —- Florida among scant few states to see births, elementary school population rise

U.S. Fertility Forecast

The 2020 Q1 U.S. Fertility Forecast

Particularly deep declines in populations of children under the age of eight are expected to be seen in rapidly aging states

Child populations are declining nationally and in most U.S. states. Particularly deep declines in populations of children under the age of eight are expected to be seen in rapidly aging states with low birth rates like California, Illinois, Hawaii, Vermont, New Mexico and West Virginia. States that benefit from intra-country migration, and which have relatively higher birth rates, like Florida, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Nevada can expect more stable child populations.

However, no state should expect significant growth in child populations in the foreseeable future. Even high-fertility states with strong economies and in-migration like Utah, North Dakota and Texas have experienced declining child populations in recent years as fertility rates tumble across the board.

Florida stands out as one of the few states to see an uptick in births over the last decade. The Sunshine State recorded 214,590 births in 2010; Demographic Intelligence expects that figure to rise to 223,524 by the end of 2020 and climb further to more than 226,000 in 2021. It is one of just a handful of states that DI anticipates will see its population under the age of five to continue rising through 2021. This means schools will continue to see more children entering Kindergarten in the Sunshine State for the near future.

Texas has seen its population swell in recent years thanks to migration trends across the U.S. Its fertility picture was also fairly sunny in the first half of the last decade, as births rose from 386,118 in 2010 to 403,618 in 2015. But that trend has since reversed, falling to 375,859 in 2019. Demographic Intelligence expects a continued decline in the next two years. The number of children entering Texas schools as kindergartners is also expected to decline in the next two years.

Migration trends within the U.S. have been kind to Utah, but its fertility rate has been steadily declining in recent years. Once a high-fertility state thanks to the powerful influence of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, its fertility rate recently fell below replacement level. Demographic Intelligence does not anticipate births falling much further in the near term, however, because of in migration into Utah. Births in Utah should remain around 48,000 in 2020 and 2021. Likewise, DI expects the population of those in the earliest elementary school grades to be fairly steady in the next couple of years, thanks to families moving into the state.

But in most states, the number of school-aged children is falling. The consequences of fewer primary school-aged children in the U.S. are likely to be significant. Many schools will be partially empty and demand for many categories of educational service will fall. Likewise, products marketed to children, especially mass-market products, will struggle to find sufficient customers. Even residential real estate will be impacted, as demand for family housing will eventually decline in parts of the country where more and more of life is spent without a spouse or children.

Mervis Diamond Importers to Aid Nurses Charity Amid Coronavirus Crisis

Mervis Diamond Importers, the leading diamond dealer in the Washington, D.C. area, will aid charity in this time of need. The Company has rolled out its 91>19 sterling silver bracelet. Income from the sale of the bangles will be donated to the American Nurses Association to support nurses on the frontlines of this crisis.

The sterling silver bracelet which retails for $91, is engraved with the design 91>19. The inscribed 91 finds its inspiration from Psalm-91. Written first by the great prophet Moses and later composed into amulets by Jews and Christians during the late antique period, the verse cites that hope, comfort and faith shall rise above fear in times of trouble. The19 is a nod to COVID-19 while the sterling silver material is a reminder of the ‘silver linings’ that occur even in the darkest of times. Visitors to http://www.mervisdiamond.com can purchase the bracelet by clicking on the Gabriel banner on the home page.

Whether shoppers believe in a higher power or just the simple math of 91 being greater than 19, this formula and bracelet represents strength, comfort, and positivity.

Mervis Diamond Importers is a family business run on old fashioned family values. Brothers Zed and Ronnie Mervis were trained in diamonds by their father Morris Mervis and they continue their legacy in the traditional way — with honesty and integrity. Raised in the diamond center of the world in South Africa, they learned about diamonds at an early age. The brothers have always focused on quality diamonds and great value.

Ronnie Mervis, CEO of Mervis Diamond Importers, states “We are all in this situation together, and we want to show our gratitude to those on the frontlines, putting themselves at risk and spending long hours away from their families. We hope that you will join us in honoring those who are working to halt the spread of this pandemic.”

Lawrence R. Goldfarb Advocates Strongly For Prison Reform

Lawrence R. Goldfarb perceives that the American prison system is systemically ridden with inequities and irrationalities.

Lawrence Goldfarb Judicial Reform Foundation

We are dedicated to the repeal of irrational sentencing guidelines for nonviolent and non sex offenders.

The Executive Director and Founder of the Lawrence Goldfarb Judicial Reform Foundation is calling for serious changes to be made to the American judicial system. Mr. Lawrence R. Goldfarb is an experienced attorney, formerly with the law firms of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and Skadden, Arps, Meagher & Flom. He graduated with a law degree cum laude from Georgetown Law School and a past contributor to the Georgetown Law Review. Based on this extensive experience in the legal field, Lawrence R. Goldfarb perceives that the American prison system is systemically ridden with inequities and irrationalities.

Noting the overwhelming number of defendants who are subject to prosecutorial abuse or mistreatment in the American judicial system, Mr. Goldfarb established the Lawrence R. Goldfarb Judicial Reform Foundation. Through the Foundation, Mr. Goldfarb is pushing for prison and judicial reform that is aimed at putting defendants on an equal footing when they stand on trial. Specifically, Lawrence R. Goldfarb and the Foundation are devoted to repealing irrational sentencing guidelines, especially for nonviolent and non-sex offenders.

The Lawrence R. Goldfarb Foundation

Approximately thirteen million Americans are arrested each year, and more than half of these arrests result in felony charges and jail time. The Lawrence Goldfarb Judicial Reform Foundation seeks to highlight that given these statistics, many people end up being mistreated by the judicial system and encounter injustice at some point in the process. Several tens of thousands of innocent American citizens are placed in prisons each year without having committed a crime. The Lawrence R. Goldfarb Judicial Reform Foundation seeks to highlight that too often there is little to no recourse for stopping an unfair process once it has already started. Citizens who lack the resources to hire effective representation or who lack a comprehensive understanding of the judicial system are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to receiving a fair trial or reasonable sentencing.

The Reform Agenda

Lawrence R. Goldfarb and the Foundation have numerous and specific goals that they hope to achieve through their advocacy for judicial reform. Through the provision of educational workshops, they strive to inform both voters and legislators about the current inequitable state of the American judicial system. They also call upon both Federal and State Penal systems to change the goals of pretrial and probation processes to ensure both that due process is upheld and that citizens are treated as though they are innocent until they are proven guilty.

Finally, the Foundation calls for a more effective system of post-incarceration rehabilitation. They advocate for improved transitional housing and meaningful opportunities for employment for nonviolent and non-sex offenders. The Foundation believes that the current system frequently sets individuals up for failure upon release from prison.

Through the application of a consistent and more reasonable set of principles to the judicial system, the Foundation is confident that fewer citizens will be mistreated or unfairly sentenced.

Philanthropic Work Of Lawrence R. Goldfarb

Beyond the legal profession, Mr. Goldfarb is an active philanthropist in both his community and around the country. In 2012, he founded the Bay Area Autism Forum to assist Bay Area families with autistic children in finding resources and information. In 2009, he also helped to co-found Autism Aid, a national organization aimed at filling in the gaps of the social safety net and provide for critical needs.

Lawrence R. Goldfarb is also a board member on numerous non-profit and charitable organizations, including Autism Speaks, The American Diabetes Association, The Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Easter Seals, Homeward Bound of Marin, The Harbor Point Charitable Foundation, The Scleroderma Research Foundation and Youth Tennis Advantage. This extensive breadth of experience represents the ethical commitment of Mr. Goldfarb and speaks to his widespread sense of responsibility for both his community and his fellow citizens.

Reform For American Prisons

In addition to calling for judicial reform through the Lawrence Goldfarb Judicial Reform Foundation, Mr. Goldfarb has also formed Lawrence Goldfarb Criminal Justice Partners. This organization is similarly dedicated to providing support for those who have faced abuse within the criminal justice system. The Lawrence Goldfarb Criminal Justice Partners provide guidance for all from the perspective of trustworthy and meaningful prison consultants.

Especially in times like now of COVID-19 where prisons and jails throughout the country have become breeding grounds for the spread of COVID-19 to some of the most vulnerable humans in our society, Lawrence R. Goldfarb calls on all Americans to join him in calling for an overhaul of the judicial system to promote more equitable treatment and rational sentencing processes. As have numerous Federal and State Judges throughout the American Judicial system, The Lawrence R. Goldfarb Foundation is calling for legislatures to immediately address prison reform and significantly reduce the incarceration rates for non-violent offenders and non-sex offenders throughout the United States. The United States already has the largest per capita incarceration rate in the world outpacing dictatorships such as China and Russia.
