Universal Life Church Ministries Declares November 3rd “Universal Day”

The Universal Life Church Ministries (ULCM) announced on Monday, August 24th that it had added a new holiday to the calendar: “Universal Day”. This year, the Church said, Universal Day would fall on November 3rd.

To explain its new holiday, ULCM published an entry to its widely circulated blog “The Visionary” as well as a standalone website at UniversalDay.org. The new religious holiday, they write, gives their ministers and members a chance to “to connect and engage with one another, to discuss some of the big questions and challenges that face humanity….”

At UniversalDay.org, the Church encourages its members to take time out of their days on November 3rd to pray, meditate, talk with other ULCM members in their communities, write to their elected representatives, and vote. Citing the COVID-19 crisis, the Universal Life Church Ministries has also made available on that website specific information to assist people in safely voting by mail, wherever possible. The Church describes voting as a “sacred act” and encourages its members to vote for whichever candidates and issues most closely “align with [their] beliefs and values” in furtherance of one of their two central tenets: “Do That Which is Right.”

They argue that the celebration of Universal Day, which falls on the same day as the U.S. General Election, justifies their ministers requesting an absentee ballot for religious reasons in those states that permit mail-in ballots to be sent to registered voters with a request for religious accommodation.

The ULCM is perhaps most well-known for its provision of ordinations online to any individual who “feels so-called” at its websites like ULC.org The ULCM states that its ministers perform a wide range of religious ceremonies, in addition to acting as general ministers in their communities. Its ordained ministers, which reportedly include celebrities like Conan O’Brien and Ian McKellen, are often featured in newspapers and on television performing weddings. ULCM asks only that its ministers abide by its two central tenets:

1.    Do that which is right

2.    Practice your faith however you see fit, so long as that practice is in accordance with the law and does not infringe upon the right of any other to do the same.

On the heels of another successful Charity Jackpot at the Tejas Rodeo Company, Tyler Pearson and Kyle Irwin, courtesy of RCI Oilfield Services, are again supporting Watering Seeds Organization (WSO) with the Scooters From Scooter campaign. With this partnership, Watering Seeds has been able to provide adaptive sports wheelchairs to challenged children so they can live healthier, more active, and productive lifestyles.

When Scooter, a Professional Steer Wrestling Horse who’s registered name is Canted Plan, won the title of “Steer Wrestling Horse of the Year” at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Professional Steer Wrestlers Tyler Pearson and Kyle Irwin wanted to put their winnings toward something special. With the help of Amberley Snyder, the celebrated barrel racer and subject of Netflix’s “Walk Ride Rodeo,” they partnered with Brady Mazzola and Watering Seeds to make dreams come true for children in need of wheelchairs.

“Scooter has blessed us more than we could ever imagine, so we wanted to pay it forward,” says Pearson and Irwin. “It was humbling to see firsthand how these wheelchairs transformed the lives of the kids who received them. This year, we knew we wanted to do more.”

This 2nd annual campaign kicked off in San Antonio in February at a sanctioned Charity Jackpot event, and will continue at events throughout the year. Pearson and Irwin are not only donating earmarked winnings to Watering Seeds, but they have challenged their sponsors and fans to support the cause as well. Many, along with RCI Oilfield Services, have enthusiastically shown their support.

When Pearson and Irwin came to Watering Seeds with their idea, Founder Brady Mazzola was thrilled and honored. “We immediately started thinking about how can we bless more kids with sports wheelchairs. The Scooters From Scooter program has allowed us to expand our outreach and change more children’s lives. It’s an incredible honor to play a small part in that transformation.”

As a Steer Wrestling horse, Scooter carries guys like Pearson and Irwin to world championships. Now he helps carry kids to healthier, more active lives.

In approximately 40 to 50 percent of infertility cases, a male factor is present and either causes the couple’s inability to conceive, or contributes to the cause.

“While male factor infertility is often very treatable, many couples are still surprised to learn that infertility can arise from problems with either partner, male or female. Many think of infertility as a woman’s problem because she is the one to ultimately carry the baby. That’s far from the truth,” says Paul R. Shin, M.D., one of SGF’s in-house board certified reproductive urologists, who sees patients in SGF’s Washington, D.C., Frederick, MD, Rockville, MD, Fair Oaks, VA, and Fairfax, VA, offices.

“A simple semen analysis can help uncover if there’s an issue with the sperm that we need to consider,” added Tanrikut. “SGF performs more than 20,000 semen analyses and sperm washings every year, so patients can have peace of mind in the reliability of our testing. Further, our experienced andrologists review each semen sample for higher reliability, unlike many other labs that rely on computer-assisted semen analyses (CASA). We find CASA to be less accurate and objective than the human eye; a manual semen analysis allows for more accurate diagnosis,” adds Tanrikut.

When to See a Fertility Specialist

It’s important for men who are trying to conceive to take inventory of how long they’ve been having unprotected intercourse with their partner if she hasn’t become pregnant. If it’s been 1 year and she’s under 35, or 6 months and she’s 35-39, or 3 months if she’s 40 or older, it’s time to see a fertility specialist. Also, if there are any existing conditions that could be affecting their ability to conceive—low testosterone, erectile dysfunction (ED), problems ejaculating—it’s time to see a specialist.
