J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Recognized In Two Categories At The Annual Women In Business Stevie® Awards

#JLohrWomen: Join The Conversation Campaign Wins Marketing Campaign of the Year; Cynthia Lohr Receives Silver for “Female Executive of the Year”

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 16, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines has won the Gold Stevie® Award for Women in Business in the “Marketing Campaign of the Year – Beverages – Alcohol” category for its #JLohrWomen: Join The Conversation program. Cynthia Lohr, J. Lohr, co-owner and chief brand officer, was additionally named as a Silver winner for the “Female Executive of the Year – Consumer Products (11 to 2,500 employees)” category.

The Stevie® Awards for Women in Business honor female executives, entrepreneurs, employees, and the companies they run worldwide. The Stevie® Awards have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards. More than 1,500 entries were submitted this year for consideration in more than 100 categories, including Executive of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Company of the Year, Startup of the Year, Women Helping Women, and Women Run Workplace of the Year. Finalists were determined by averaging scores from six juries comprised of more than 200 business professionals.

As of 2018, only 4% of C-suite positions in the wine and spirits industry were held by women. J. Lohr’s long company history of women in key leadership and executive roles was an exception; through the #JLohrWomen: Join The Conversation Integrated Marketing & Sales Campaign,
J. Lohr set out to raise awareness on this issue. The campaign sought to elevate gender equity for the alcohol beverage industry by creating new opportunities for professional entry into the wine business. Under the leadership of Rhonda Motil, J. Lohr vice president of marketing, the marketing team facilitated three LinkedIn Live sessions hosted by the women of J. Lohr with sessions spotlighting the panelists’ career paths in Sales, Marketing, and Wine Science (Viticulture & Enology). Following the live sessions, attendees had the opportunity to apply for one-on-one Shadow Days focused on nurturing the professional advancement of women.

The campaign included POS displays for in-store sales support of key accounts and the winery’s wholesale network, editorial and advertorial features on leadership and diversity in the wine industry, and opportunities via social media and in-person industry event participation. As a result, earned and paid campaign media placements and social posts garnered increased customer engagement and expanded awareness for the brand and cause. Across the 3-month campaign (Q1 2023), these placements reached a potential audience of 136.4M. Additionally, total paid and earned social media impressions across Facebook and Instagram reached 19,908,608; total engagement equaled 403,708, and the brand saw a total follower growth of 2,939 across both social platforms.

The Stevie® Award judges commended the campaign for its inspirational fusion of purpose-driven activations and marketing excellence to address gender inequities within the alcohol beverage industry. The campaign’s workshops, events, and partnerships were lauded as comprehensive and effective touchpoints in a customer’s journey.

“On behalf of our team and company, we are honored to receive this accolade that recognizes the significance of the #JLohrWomen campaign and our winery’s dedication to advancing gender equity across the alcohol beverage industry,” said Rhonda Motil. “This award acknowledges the collective hard work and commitment of everyone at J. Lohr, spotlighting the success of a campaign conceived and executed with a clear purpose.”

Cynthia Lohr being named a Stevie® Award Female Executive of the Year Silver winner recognizes her career-long advocacy of social equity in the wine industry. In addition to her work with J. Lohr’s Touching Lives®‥initiative, now in its 15th year, Cynthia has also served as an advisory board director for National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.®. Cynthia has also been an early evangelist for women’s advancement through her work with Women of the Vine & Spirits, Dream Big Darling, among other appointments. The Stevie® Award judges praised Cynthia for her achievements inspired by a desire to make a better world, highlighting that this multifaceted journey reflects her adaptability and deep-seated dedication to her chosen fields.

“It is an honor to be named a Silver winner in the Female Executive category, among so many worthy nominees,” shares Cynthia Lohr. “As wine grape growers and winemakers celebrating 50 years in 2024, our Lohr family believes wine quality is synonymous with sustainability, and at the core of this ethos is how we care for our communities. Leadership begins with service, and we will continue to use our voices to lift those around us through national initiatives that foster more equitable practices beyond the wine industry.”

ServeMinnesota Starts Innovative Infant, Toddler Project for Childcare Settings — PNC Foundation provides $700,000 grant

ServeMinnesota is partnering with Early Learning Corps, an AmeriCorps program that trains and supports community members to provide extra learning and developmental support to our youngest learners. Early Learning Corps members will use “Serve and Return” strategies that have been championed by the Harvard Center for the Developing Child for their role in supporting healthy brain development in infants. AmeriCorps members will also use culturally responsive learning techniques designed to support children and foster a positive self-identity as early as possible. The program is designed to align the additional capacity and training of the AmeriCorps members with existing childcare providers as they provide young children with a warm, supportive, and enriched learning environment.

“Extensive research indicates that the returns on investment in high-quality early education and school readiness initiatives are significant and long-lasting – impacting our children, our society, and the health of our economy,” said Kate Kelly, PNC regional president for Minnesota. “We’re excited to support ServeMinnesota’s innovative approach to early childhood education and look forward to seeing this program in action.”

ServeMinnesota Chief Executive Officer Julia Quanrud said, “We’re delighted to be partnering with PNC and Early Learning Corps as well as with the team at Wilder Child Development Center to bring this program to life. With 90% of brain development happening by age five, it’s critical to boost community and caregiver resources to maximize care. This program includes the latest research on early brain development as well as guidance from our Community Advisory board of parents, childcare providers, and others. The result is an AmeriCorps program that really amplifies the high-quality care young children already receive by providing one more caring adult with the tools, training, and support to help children thrive.”

Why “Serve and Return” Strategies

The Infant and Toddler Initiative will add resources in nonprofit early childcare centers to engage children in “Serve and Return,” a proven strategy to strengthen neuron development at the very earliest ages. “Serve and Return” works like a game of tennis or volleyball between child and caregiver. The child “serves” by signaling readiness for interaction with eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, babbling or touch. A responsive caregiver returns the serve by speaking back, playing a game, or sharing a toy. It’s simple and powerful. Children and caregivers already interact this way, but when done repeatedly and with caring adults who are sufficiently supported themselves, it’s how the brains of young children really flourish. Healthy brain pathways form, children develop a positive sense of agency, and they strengthen their relationships with caring adults. Early Learning Corps members will build on the strengths of the caregivers, parents, and community to integrate this proven approach within a unique, culturally specific environment.

About PNC Foundation

The PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group (www.pnc.com), actively supports organizations that provide services for the benefit of communities in which it has a significant presence. The foundation focuses its philanthropic mission on early childhood education and community and economic development, which includes the arts and culture. Through PNC Grow Up Great®, its signature cause that began in 2004, PNC has created a bilingual $500 million, multi-year initiative to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life. Uplift Malawi – A New Name and a New Chapter, Driven by the Same Passion for Comprehensive and Accessible Education

In 2013, they finished construction on The Namunda Primary school, a campus that supports 700 primary school students annually. The school provides well-equipped indoor classrooms, complete with desks and supplies. It also boasts a library complex with books for all ages, a cooking facility that offers free daily meals to students, and solar water and sanitation facilities to promote health and hygiene. Additionally, the campus includes an orchard that supports agricultural training, sports fields encouraging extracurricular learning, and on-site teacher housing. The Namunda Primary School goes beyond just being a place to learn, it improves the quality of life for both students and teachers, as well as their families and the surrounding rural communities. Embracing a comprehensive approach to education, Uplift Malawi proves that education must extend far beyond the construction of school infrastructure to successfully improve outcomes and create lasting change.

“There are many ways to advance education in a pre-existing infrastructure. But to build a groundbreaking school campus in one of the poorest nations in the world to make education a possibility…now that’s a mission. It’s a difficult task in a challenging environment, but to change the life of just one person by making education available will make a significant impact on the lives of many in years to come. Our mission goes beyond education; it’s about uplifting lives,”says Heidi Hamels, Founder of Uplift Malawi.

The organization began with founders Cole and Heidi Hamels, driven by a deep commitment to create opportunities to learn. Since its inception in 2009, The Hamels Foundation has worked relentlessly to create an impact, which has only been intensified by the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The temporary closure of its Namunda Primary School, due to the pandemic, highlighted the vital role the organization plays in providing essential resources to children, families, and communities in Malawi.

The organization reached a pivotal crossroad that not only marks the evolution of the nonprofit but also provides an opportunity to fine-tune its mission and increase its impact. It is with sadness the news of their founders’ separation is shared, but Uplift Malawi looks to the future with gratitude, excitement, and a sense of renewed purpose, guided by Heidi Hamels and Alaina Baker.

Under new leadership, Uplift Malawi is poised to enhance its mission and expand its impact. Alaina Baker, who has been a part of the mission for over a decade, has returned as Executive Director, bringing a fresh vision and wealth of experience to lead Uplift Malawi’s efforts forging ahead. Though a chapter closes, another opens for Uplift Malawi with intentional transformation driven by the same passion for comprehensive and accessible education.

Their new name, Uplift Malawi, embodies who they are today and the heart of their mission The colors in their logo are inspired by Malawi’s flag, the natural hues of the country, and the vibrant colors found at their Namunda Primary School campus. The logo itself symbolizes people in a circle with outstretched hands, signifying their efforts to transform a broken cycle into uplifted communities through the power of education.

“Our mission has always been about changing lives through education. We believe in the transformative power of education, and now more than ever, we are determined to create a lasting impact on the lives of children, families, and communities in Malawi,” states Alaina Baker, Executive Director of Uplift Malawi . “Uplift Malawi is more than a new name; it’s a celebration of our journey, growth, and impact we strive to make.”

Uplift Malawi is more than an organization; it’s a global community united by a shared commitment to empower lives through learning. As they embark on this new chapter, they invite everyone to join them in their journey by visiting their website, following them on Instagram and Facebook, or making a donation. They extend their deepest gratitude to their supporters, whose dedication makes their work possible. Together, they are making a difference – one child, one family, one community at a time.

7 Essential Tips for Traveling with Your Kids this Holiday

Whether on the road or via plane, holiday travel can be stressful, especially with kids in tow. It’s supposed to be a relaxing family time but you want it to go smoothly, so you have lists running in your head and you feeling some anxiety instead of eager anticipation. From safety tips like checking your car seat to entertainment tips along the way, these tips from Safe Ride 4 Kids will get you through your holiday travels with a sense of adventure.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo., Nov. 14, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Whether on the road or via plane, holiday travel can be stressful, especially with kids in tow. It’s supposed to be a relaxing family time but you want it to go smoothly, so you have lists running in your head and you feeling some anxiety instead of eager anticipation.

Here are a few quick tips to help you prepare and enjoy your holiday travels.

Going to by car

1. Check the car seats: We’re assuming you already have car seats in the car. And your car seats are the right type for your child’s age and size. You want to make sure the car seats are installed properly, say the car seat experts at Safe Ride4 Kids. Car seats should move less than one inch from side to side at the belt path. That is where the seat belt goes through the seat. A little movement is OK as long as it’s not more than an inch.

The harness strap should be at or below a child’s shoulders if the child is in a rear-facing seat; at or above if the child is in a forward-facing seat. The car seat harness straps should be snug enough on the child so that you cannot pinch the strap between your fingers.

And remember no bulky coats. The harness straps will compress on the fluff then be too loose to properly restrain the child. Plus, this is a road trip, you want your child to be comfortable. After the car warms up the child could overheat if the coat is on under the harness straps.

Get the seat double checked by a certified child passenger safety technician before your trip. While some fire departments do have certified technicians, not all fire fighters — or police officers or nurses — have this very specific training.

2. Plan regular stops: This helps the kids get the wiggles out and the driver stay alert. Plus it can make the whole trip more fun. Who doesn’t want to see the world’s largest fire hydrant? (It’s in Columbia, South Carolina by the way.)

You can use an app to help plan stops to take on a long drive. An app like Roadtrippers, can plan your drive down to the minute and offers what can be fun to see along the way.

3. Safe entertainment: In case you haven’t heard, car seat safety experts recommend not having anything too heavy hanging around in the car. In a crash all those items become projectiles. So while that iPod is fabulous entertainment, it may not feel so good smacking your child in the head at 30 mph or faster. Best to keep it packed away in the trunk.

Audio books can be a good option. Or plan on brushing up on your road tip games, like I Spy or Going On a Picnic. Stuffed animals give your child something to cuddle without the potential for injury.

Going by plane

4. Pack light but with the necessities: You want to be thoughtful about what you bring because you can only pack so much in your carry on and can only carry so much luggage. But you want to have every thing you’ll need. Things like baby wipes (for kids of any age), diapers for babies, or an extra change of clothes for a potty-training toddler are necessities.

A car seat is also a necessity. Whether you use it on the plane (it is recommended for young children), you probably need it when you land. No one likes to heft a heavy car seat through the airport but there are lighter weight travel car seat options.

For an infant you can save yourself a few pounds by just bringing the infant carrier and not the base. Most infant car seats can be installed without the base. For rear-facing toddler, there are a few lightweight convertible car seats you can bring instead of your heavy every day car seat. This way you can leave your car seat in your car properly installed safely awaiting your return. A great portable option for forward-facing kids is the RideSafer Travel Vest. It’s a wearable car seat that is easy to pack. RideSafer is great for those drives in the taxi or ride share too because you don’t need to lug a car seat around town with you.

And snacks. Don’t forget the snacks.

5. Give yourself extra time: Everything takes longer with a child. Sometimes they walk so slow. Give your self more time than you think, or hope, you’ll need. You may find yourself with time to wait at the gate but if there’s a long line at checkin or security — or both, the extra time will come in handy.

6. Move while you can: Remember the plan some stops so your child can get the wiggles out tip for road trips? That applies here as well. Your child is about to sit on an airplane for however many hours. That extra time you have waiting at the gate can be used walking around the airport. Some airports even have play areas for children. This is a super way for them to get some wiggles out before loading the plane.

The most important travel tip

7. Keep calm and be flexible: Ever notice how kids imitate their parents? They pick up on parents moods and energy too. For children, traveling is already exciting and it may also be interfering with their schedule. When a parent is stressed, it adds to the child’s already hyped up feelings.

You planned ahead the best you can. You gave yourself extra time. You know you cannot predict or control delays or lines or skipped naps. Now is a great time to remember that and take a breath, be flexible and laugh your way through the hassles. Perhaps your children will do the same and the whole trip will be an adventure to remember.
