Believe a Buddy is the Holiday Gift Filled With Mindfulness and Affirmations to Empower and Inspire Children

“Winston lovingly gives children a vote of confidence from a loving pal who boosts their self-image and offers them a welcome nudge to try hard things. The accompanying affirmation cards can be pulled daily in the house before the kids go off to school, in the classroom, in a hospital setting or anywhere a child may be.”

Winston comes with 52 affirmation cards for ages 3+, inspiring children to wake up and start their day with intention. The cuddly bear features a plush heart pouch that holds the affirmation cards, perpetually positioned arms for constant hugs, stars on the paws symbolizing the magic of affirmations, and a heart of gold at the center of the belly to remind children of the power of self-belief.

Kozuch has never shied away from life’s difficulties. Her personal experience led to the founding of Believe a Buddy. In 2008, she was paralyzed in an accident and doctors told her she would never walk again. Instead of believing in her daunting diagnosis, she wrote an affirmation on her hospital whiteboard that stated, “Cat will walk out of here!…duh!”

During her three-month hospital stay, her father gave her a new teddy bear each time he traveled for work. The collection was pinned around the whiteboard affirmation. Finally, after weeks of speaking her affirmation out loud, a miracle happened – Cat walked out of the hospital. Through determination and visualization, she turned her recovery journey into a meaningful mission to motivate children. The seed was planted and what has blossomed is a brand centered on love, mindfulness and positivity.

Eighteen years later, Cat would launch the purposeful brand Believe a Buddy. Through the Receive a Buddy donation program, children with medical disabilities receive a Believe a Buddy.

Winston is priced at $62. For more information and to receive a donation, visit http://www.believeabuddy.com.

About Believe a Buddy:
Our mission is to empower children to believe in themselves and their abilities through positive affirmations. We believe every child deserves to feel confident, capable and loved, regardless of their circumstances.

Bent Inn Opens Today, December 1, in Resurgent Downtown Las Vegas

“Everyone needs a place where they are free to be themselves. And that’s Bent Inn,” says Kafka, who serves as Bent Inn’s chief experience officer. “Although “straight friendly,” our goal is to set the travel standard for what we call the Bent Community (the not-so-straight, nerdy cool, khakis-by-day-leather-by-night, pink hair, crew cut, black nail polish, no nail polish, nose ring, hairy, smooth, fem, masc, butch, he, she, they, them, Jack and Coke, dirty martini, daiquiri, top, bottom, vers, side, switch). It’s for those of us that make life interesting.”

“We hired exceptional staff who will help Bent Inn become a playfully welcoming place for adults where unforgettable experiences and connections are formed.” notes Mark Hunter, chief escape officer. “Community is very important to us, and we have been fortunate to be able to cultivate that at our previous resorts.”

The duo hired Will Glenn as the resort’s general manager. “Will’s extensive background in gaming, food and beverage, and quality of customer care made him the perfect choice for the Bent Inn,” adds Hunter.

Glenn has opened restaurants from the ground up, including multiple 3 Tomatoes & a Mozzarella locations, and entertainment bars like Whiskey Dick’s. In his spare time, Will works with local charity organizations within the LGBTQ+ community to help raise awareness, and money for those in need of HIV medications.

Chef Julianna Medel will use her culinary knowledge and passion for a fusion-based, fresh-from-scratch approach in the Bent Inn Gastropub. She’s worked under chefs from a variety of traditions to hone her own unique culinary style. Her Las Vegas experience includes Rock ‘N’oodles in the arts district and Majordomo on the strip. She’s also traveled the country managing a variety of kitchens.

Overview of Bent Inn Amenities

Rooms are entered through the Bent Inn atrium, which is laden with water and garden features. Room availability includes:

  • 30 king-size bed hotel rooms with comfy high-end mattresses
  • Patio, balcony, or standard rooms (different rooms rates apply)
  • A 3-room bunkhouse with twin sized beds for solo and hostel-style travelers

Room amenities include:

  • 65″ Flat-screen Smart TVs
  • Luxury brand bath products
  • In-room electronic safes, hairdryers, Bluetooth enabled radio/charger/speaker
  • Individual room heating and cooling systems
  • Mid-century inspired custom pulp fiction artwork
  • Remodeled eclectic new rooms

A resort fee of $22 includes overnight off-street parking, Wi-Fi with high-speed Internet, and use of the pool, spa, and garden. Specifically, the resort features:

  • Expansive heated adults-only swimming pool with in-pool seating and an irresistible Baja Shelf for sunbathing and conversation
  • Poolside chaise lounges with shade structures and misting fans
  • Pool towels and accessories
  • Poolside shower
  • Oversized outdoor heated spa
  • Fenced property for security and privacy
  • Same block access to RTC Bike Share
  • 10-minute walk to all of the Downtown Fremont Street Experience (That’s quicker than walking to your car in the large resorts!) and The Center, Southern Las Vegas’s LGBTQ community nucleus.

The Bent Inn gastropub, with seating for 50 inside and seasonal outdoor dining, will offer a Bent perspective to traditional gastropub fare, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an expanded shareables menu.

Bent Inn History and Architectural Style

The hotel was originally developed as a small hotel in 1965 called the Moonlight Motel, then transitioned into an apartment complex. The property has been reimagined with a “mid-century meets industrial architecture style” and artistic features throughout vary from wall murals to posters of gay pulp fiction inspired by the ’50’s-’60’s and offering an attitude of flamboyant mischievousness.

An invitation-only grand opening celebration and slumber party is slated for January of 2024.

Michele Foods Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Providing “Good Over Everything” Syrups

As founder of Michele Foods, her namesake brand has made her the “Real Mother of Syrups.” Having appeared on Oprah three times, she has the secret recipes for delicious syrups and runs the first Black woman-owned syrup company.

“I’ve inherited a strong work ethic and a passion for crafting sweet, flavorful syrups unlike others on the market,” said Hoskins. “I’m part of a long line of strong women who enjoy using syrups in many of my recipes that are generations in the making!

“These recipes were passed down to me at a low point in my life. As a young Black woman from the Southside of Chicago, I was going through a divorce and was a single mom to three daughters. The syrup recipes were a life lesson in moving on and creating a new chapter to support my family and pay homage to the women before and after.”

Hoskin’s great-great-great grandmother, America Washington, was a freed slave in the late 1800s who developed a recipe for syrup out of churned butter, honey and cream as an alternative to molasses. Michele Foods offers three flavors today: Honey Crème, Maple Crème, and Butter Pecan varieties. The syrups are more than just for waffles and pancakes. Cooks use them as a condiment as well. It’s truly a “Sweet family Legacy in a Bottle”

From working out of her mom’s basement, hand pouring syrup with a funnel into bottles, to today with national distribution in over 10,000 stores, Hoskins notes it’s the stuff that dreams are made of and an excellent example of never giving up. She is grateful to represent women-owned businesses and the African American community.
