Dr. David A. Wright announces the release of ‘The Nutrient Diet’

News Image

“The vast majority of diet, weight loss and nutrition plans and approaches fail because they expect a person to make too many dietary and behavioral changes at once. In essence, they expect you to change overnight (instead of doing so gradually and naturally), leaving most dieters feeling frustrated, overwhelmed and defeated.” David A. Wright, MD, MM, MBA, MHSA (Dr. David)

“The Nutrient Diet: A Cognitive Behavioral Approach to Diet, Impulse Control, Habit Formation, Eating Behaviors & Weight Management” (published by iUniverse) was partially inspired by the courage and confidence by which Oprah Winfrey took on health conditions like being overweight and obesity during the ’80s and ’90s on the Oprah Winfrey Show ® —taking away much of the stigma and shame associated with weight-oriented challenges and body image. “The Nutrient Diet” was also inspired by seeing so many Americans gain weight during the COVID19 pandemic. “The Nutrient Diet” is a “lifestyle approach” for general and mental health based upon sound psychological principles and scientific data and studies from the top research centers and hospitals in America. “The Nutrient Diet” is 50% diet and nutrition, and 50% cognitive and behavioral psychological strategies for eating behaviors, dieting, impulse control and habit formation. “The Nutrient Diet” takes a “cognitive behavioral” (i.e., psychological) approach to diet, nutrition, health, wellness, weight loss, weight management and lifestyle management. In “The Nutrient Diet,” Dr. David offers a “completely new, bold, intelligent, modern, psychological approach” to diet, health, wellness and weight loss and weight management habits. In addition, “The Nutrient Diet” gives the science and reasoning behind making dietary, nutritional and behavioral changes.

“Being overweight, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, peripheral artery disease, coronary artery disease, pulmonary (i.e., breathing-oriented) diseases and other chronic health and mental health conditions are escalating because people are stressed out and their first impulses and reactions are to use food and alcohol to self-medicate,” Dr. Wright points out. “‘The Nutrient Diet’ shows you how to use planning, strategy, habits, rituals, actions, and behavior patterns (i.e., cognitive behavioral methods) so that they become allies in your weight loss, dietary, and lifestyle goals.”

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, Dr. Wright answers, “The keys to diet, weight loss, and impulse control are habit and ritual creation, formation, and sustainment. The key is combining the science of nutrition with what works with your unique DNA, metabolism, lifestyle choices and individual health and weight goals. The real key is where science meets individuality and unique lifestyle goals and choices.”

About the Author

Dr. David Wright achieved his MD in July of 2010, graduating summa cum laude [4.0 GPA] from Xavier University School of Medicine. His primary emphases in medical school were forensic psychiatry, addiction psychiatry (addiction medicine), and neurology. While attending medical school, Dr. Wright concurrently completed three master’s degrees back to back. As such, Dr. Wright chose to approach mental health from a more natural, holistic, root cause-based, logic-centered and psychoanalytical and psychodynamic outlook instead of choosing an approach primarily based on handing out pills to simply address the surface symptoms rather than addressing the underlying, root causes (which is how psychiatry is generally practiced today). Dr. Wright believes that individuals, groups and communities need (society needs) more real, root cause-oriented, long-term solutions, not more pills. He frequently asks the question, “Do most Americans really want to be on yet another pill?” Dr. David’s specialties are life direction, ADHD, anxiety, repeating destructive cycles, emotional ruts, relationship issues, grief, and depression. Dr. David is an expert in the areas of “change management,” “personal & professional development” and “performance improvement.” Dr. David’s books include “Sweet Potato Pie for the Spirit, Soul & Psyche” (a self-improvement and self-empowerment book), “Tomato Bisque for the Brain” (a self-improvement and self-empowerment book), and “The Nutrient Diet.” Dr. Wright’s self-improvement books were inspired by Oprah Winfrey, Super Soul Sundays ® on the Oprah Winfrey Network ® (OWN) and by Oprah’s “Thought For The Day” Newsletter ®, which is featured on his website.

A Voice That Carries Releases Empowering Documentary About the Roles of Fathers in Supporting Daughters and Raising Confident Young Women

“We wanted to create something to encourage fathers to lean into their role and be that strong foundation as their daughters begin to navigate the world,” Dr. Melissa Miller, PsyD Psychologist.

A Voice That Carries (http://www.AVoiceThatCarries.com) is a four-part series with heartwarming stories and insights about how fathers can be a positive influence and support for their daughters about building relationships, body image, and emotional presence. The series aims to encourage the importance a father’s role is in the life of a growing young woman and focuses on the development of the female body image from an early age, and how it evolves through the influence of media and societal pressures.

Throughout history, the media has distorted and depicted what the ideal of a female body should resemble, and what is rarely addressed is the nurture of these young girls. A Voice That Carries aims at spreading awareness of what the role of a father can do to encourage healthy perspectives for daughters, while also creating a change on an issue so predominant in today’s society.

“The culture that currently exists can be toxic to a developing female,” states Dr. Melissa Miller, PsyD Psychologist, who co-produces the series. “What can be a protective factor to girls are strong relationships with parents and we have seen a major gap in the resources available to fathers, which is a shame because their role is just as crucial.”

A Voice That Carries was created by Director Brett Culp and produced by inspiring individuals, Dr. Heidi Limbrunner, Dr. Tracy Barcott, Dr. Melissa Miller, Dr. Lauren King, and Lindsey McKeon, all of which play integral roles in shaping and influencing the way women see themselves in society.

“In our clinical work, our team saw first-hand how much fathers want to be there for their daughters, they just did not always know what that meant or how to do so,” comments Dr. Miller. “We wanted to create something to encourage fathers to lean into their role and be that strong foundation as their daughters begin to navigate the world.”

A Voice that Carries is available at http://www.AVoicethatCarries.com.

The talk will teach the audience how to find and seize personal opportunity following inconvenience and chaotic events. Dr. Lisa shows people what’s available when something like a world pandemic and staggering economic uncertainty shake people’s attention into a heightened state.

“Nothing is like it was; our true feelings are exposed,” says Dr. Lisa, describing the rarity of the current moment. “The loneliness, the fear, the anxiety, the ‘what’s my purpose here’ scream from the inside.”

That is just the time when Dr. Lisa helps people to create important changes in their lives, to convert longing into accomplishment.

A dynamic, world-traveled, and experienced speaker, Dr. Lisa will inspire you to choose the growth inherent and intrinsic to you, just what is personally right for you.

The ROAR® technique and Living Your ROAR®

In addition, Dr. Lisa will be available for a booth presentation on her original ROAR® technique. She’ll be featuring special 15-minute “laser” sessions of this fast-acting, trauma-relieving method.

In carrying out the ROAR® technique the ROAR® practitioner asks a series of focused questions to a person suffering from hard feelings. The questions follow the feelings to the root, to the life event where the sufferer first felt them. It can deliver radical transformation, even the actual end of abusive experiences.

Dr. Lisa is a world-renowned authority on thriving after trauma. Over the past 25 years, she’s helped thousands of clients to live radically alive after difficult events, whether physical, emotional, sexual, or financial.

Andy Roddick Foundation Launches Whatchamafeelit

News Image

Today, the Andy Roddick Foundation (ARF) announces the launch of Whatchamafeelit, a curriculum aimed at helping parents, youth and educators understand, process and express emotions. The curriculum includes 16 lessons and access to activities and videos to work on stress management and foster communication around mental health. Through Whatchamafeelit, ARF is prioritizing mental and emotional health by providing families with an effective way to process jumbled thoughts into clear emotions.

“It’s no secret that the past year has been challenging for students, educators and parents. Virtual learning, seeing our friends less and general anxiety about the future have brought up so many different feelings and we want to help our families safely process those emotions,” says Andy Roddick, ARF Founder and Chair.

“Whatchamafeelit is a special place dedicated to the social and emotional growth of families, providing them fun and effective ways to explore their feelings in a healthy way,” adds Richard Tagle, ARF CEO. “The curriculum is set up to allow children to work through lessons alongside their parents and educators with prompts and activities throughout each step of the process. Each lesson is set up so that families can customize them to suit their child’s needs.”

Whatchamafeelit’s lessons and activities have been developed using the proven SAFE framework, meaning they are sequenced, active, focused and explicit, as well as the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) core competencies. This results in the marriage of dance, art and reading with positive self-talk and reflection that fosters personal growth and encourages healthy stress management. While Whatchamafeelit provides prompts, activities and learning materials to guide families through these emotions and expressions, the program emphasizes that there is no right or wrong way to navigate these lessons.

One order of Whatchamafeelit includes the 16 lessons, activities, instructional videos, a guide for parents and guardians, backpack, T-shirt, pencils and pencil case, A-to-Z emotion cards, stickers, pins and a wristband. The cost for one Whatchamafeelit is $325, and with the purchase of each Whatchamafeelit, ARF will provide social and emotional learning to a family in need, meaning 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the students, families and programs of ARF.

The launch of Whatchamafeelit corresponds with National Summer Learning Week, which runs July 12 – 16 and is dedicated to ensuring students return to school in the fall ready to succeed by keeping them safe, healthy and learning throughout the summer. In 2020, ARF contributed to this endeavor and provided 170 children with tablets, materials and synchronous instruction during the 8-week ARF Summer at Home virtual program. This year’s virtual program runs from June 14 – July 23 and is accessible at https://www.arfoundation.org/summercamp.

“Last summer, the ARF Summer at Home virtual program helped participating children make statistically significant gains in social emotional skills, such as motivation, problem solving, persistence, and asking for help. This year, we’re extending these efforts through our virtual summer camp and Whatchamafeelit, which work well together or separately,” said Mary Riggs, ARF Chief Program Officer. “We want to ensure our families are able to navigate each aspect of education, from academics to emotional expression, and our hope is that Whatchamafeelit builds a foundation for students to do well in and out of the classroom.”

Over the last 20 years, ARF efforts have raised $30 million that contributed to grants, direct services and programs, and the Learn All the Time initiative. In 2020 alone, ARF produced more than 800,000 high-quality educational opportunities that impacted over 79,000 youth and over 50 families in Central Texas. In 2021, ARF continued to meet the moment by aiding families affected by February’s winter storms and providing a mobile Covid-19 vaccine clinic.

Clinical Psychologist Warns of the Pervasiveness of Bad Psychology and Provides Strategies for Selecting the Right Provider in Informative New Book

News Image

With the prevalence of depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders, the need for mental health services continues to grow. However, as author and clinical psychologist Joshua Thomas points out in his new book, “Good Psych – Bad Psych & How to Tell the Difference,” many people who seek out care will encounter the dark side of the mental health system, one perpetuated by poor regulation, a lack of qualified providers and a wide circulation of misinformation.

“Good Psych – Bad Psych” serves as a comprehensive, easy-to-read guide to navigating the complex mental health system and the dangers that lurk beneath. Bringing to light the commonplace practice of “bad psych” that has been perpetuated by the current system, Thomas cites current mental health statistics and detailed case studies from his own practice to emphasize the importance of discerning between good practitioners and bad practitioners.

Divided into two parts, the book begins by debunking dangerous myths surrounding psychology, including all referrals to psychological therapy are trustworthy, targeted treatment is effective and medication is more helpful than harmful. In part two, Thomas delves deeper into what it means to be a good psychologist and identifies key competencies and personal attributes that one should possess. Readers will also find a helpful psychologist rating scale that they can utilize when assessing an existing or potential provider.

In writing “Good Psych – Bad Psych,” Thomas hopes to reduce the pain and damage inflicted on unsuspecting clients by bad psychologists and empower readers to find the right psychologist for themselves or their loved ones. Additionally, the book challenges others in the profession to reflect on the quality of the service they are providing clients and strive to embody the practice of good psychology.

“A refreshingly honest appraisal of the dysregulated mental health services that the public and practitioners are faced with,” Dr. Jake Anderson, B.B.NSc., Ph.D., M.Psych. “Essential reading for individuals and families to increase their chances of connecting with the right psychology practitioner and avoiding poor practices. Interestingly, the book is a useful text for new and established psychologists in appreciating and assessing their own readiness to provide good therapy.”

Vie Style launches Kickstarter for smart earphones that track and analyze mental state while listening to music

News Image

Vie Zone’s in-ear smart sensing technology picks up your brainwaves (EEG), heart rate (ECG) and tunes your brain through a combo of neuroscience and music.

Today, Vie Style launched a Kickstarter campaign for Vie Zone—lightweight and portable EEG earphones co-developed with the University of Tokyo, KDDI, and NTT data. They analyse brain waves and heart rate and leverage this data to enhance focus levels during various tasks. Early bird pricing for the campaign starts at $249 USD (retail value $399 USD).

“Compared to full-scalp electroencephalogram (EEG), in-ear EEG technology typically has a weaker signal amplitude and measures activity from fewer brain regions,” said founder Yazz Imamura. “In close collaboration with our partners at Tokyo University, KDDI, and NTT Data, we have developed a new signal composing system called EAR2BRAIN. It’s designed specifically for minimalist in-ear devices to detect a wider range of brain activity with high accuracy.”

Every brain is different, so Vie Zone’s AI learns a user’s specific signal pattern and, in turn, develops a fully customized AI model to train the brain. This is possible thanks to Vie Zone’s in-ear smart sensing technology that picks up the user’s brain waves and heart rate in real-time through electroencephalogram. Their AI measure’s the user’s focus levels, comparing their biometric patterns against those of people performing various cognitive tasks.

To tune the brain, users choose a particular task, duration for an exercise, and music that suits their preferences. As they work and listen, Vie Zone creates a brain wave pattern that enhances focus and creativity. Once set, the AI-powered music player creates customized focused music that combines neurofeedback and binaural beats to guide the user into a flow state, and help keep them there.

And because deep focus requires sufficient rest, the earphones also detect the user’s mental fatigue level and when it gets too high, it suggests taking a break. In Calm Mode, Vie Zone plays soothing, meditative sounds to help the user’s brain recover faster.

“We wanted to make it possible for anyone to access premium brain enhancement training used by elite athletes and executives,” continued Imamura. “Through a combination of neuroscience and music and a precise balance of concentration and recovery, Vie Zone frees the user’s mind to work at its full capacity.”

Vie Zone’s companion app houses performance data, like how long the user stayed focused during the work session in order to help them better understand their flow state. Other features include softshell custom fitting, neodymium rotating speaker, Bluetooth 5.0, 10-hour battery life, and compatibility with Apple Music and Google Play Music.

Applications include: staying focused while working from home; refreshing the brain with sound meditation; getting in the zone before a sports game.

The tech was developed with the University of Tokyo, KDDI, NTT-Data, and have been used in two studies:

1) University of Tokyo study showed Vie Style helps users get in a “flow” (a.k.a “eustress”) state and then can analyze said state.

2) An experiment that used EEG to monitor the brainwaves – or tingles – of participants while listening to music and create accompanying light displays. See video of it here. The study also evaluated the musical effects of VieZone during participant’s meditation.

The Vie Zone campaign will launch on July 6, 2021 with an estimated delivery date of December 2021. For more information on the pledge levels, visit the Kickstarter campaign Media wishing to learn more about the company or interview personnel should contact PR agent Borjana Slipicevic.
