East-West Shrine Bowl at Allegiant Stadium

The Patriots have a legendary track record of success and have found star players in previous Shrine Bowls, such as Tom Brady and Tyquan Thornton. The Falcons are a great organization with outstanding young talent already on their roster.

The East-West Shrine Bowl™, which supports Shriners Children’s™, is proud to announce two full NFL coaching staffs, the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons, will coach this year’s game for the first time in the game’s 98-year history. The coaching staffs will provide Shrine Bowl players with pro-level advisory and developmental opportunities, in addition to the once-in-a-lifetime chance to showcase their skills in front of NFL coaches.

The East-West Shrine Bowl will be a part of NFL Pro Bowl week, bringing approximately 130 of the nation’s top college seniors to be coached by NFL staffs for a week of preparation in front of hundreds of NFL scouts, professional agents and media, all leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft.

As a development tool, the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Smith, and the head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, will serve as supervisors, allowing others on the staff to possibly coach up a level or to coach a new position. Belichick and Smith are expected to be at all practices, in addition to the game. The East-West Shrine Bowl will also have coaching fellows from HBCU institutions on-site to learn and develop as coaches during the week of practice.

“The Falcons and the Patriots are two outstanding teams to be our coaching staffs for the Shrine Bowl,” said Eric Galko, director of player personnel and football operations for the Shrine Bowl. “The Patriots have a legendary track record of success and have found star players in previous Shrine Bowls, such as Tom Brady and Tyquan Thornton. The Falcons are a great organization with outstanding young talent already on their roster. Both teams are going to greatly benefit from getting to coach our players as they build their rosters in the future.”

Televised nationally during primetime on NFL Network, the 98th East-West Shrine Bowl will kick off at 5:30 p.m. PST on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from Allegiant Stadium, one of the nation’s premier professional stadiums and home of the Las Vegas Raiders.

“What a tremendous way to raise awareness and support for Shriners Children’s by having the full staffs of the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons coach our signature event,” said Bob Roller, director of national sports management for Shriners Children’s.

The 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl had an increase of 55% more draft picks from the previous game, and highest total in more than a decade. This did not come as a surprise to anyone who watched the game and witnessed the outstanding talent displayed. Last year, 45 players were drafted, with the remaining signing free agent deals. Last year’s game also featured the highest draft pick, Tyquan Thornton, since Jimmy Garoppolo in 2012. Among last year’s roster were Brock Purdy and Skylar Thompson who are currently starting quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Playoffs.

Created in 1925, the East-West Shrine Bowl is the longest running college all-star football game in the nation. An important part of America’s football tradition, the game gives top college players a chance to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and a national television audience. Since 1925, the East-West Shrine Bowl has benefited Shriners Children’s and its mission to improve the lives of children by providing world-class specialty care, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.

IWPR Condemns Anti-Abortion Vote in the US House of Representatives

[ad_1]

News Image

Today’s vote in the House of Representatives is dangerous, disingenuous, and undermines women’s access to the full range of reproductive healthcare options.

Statement from C. Nicole Mason, President and CEO of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research on today’s anti-abortion vote in the US House of Representatives:

Today’s vote in the House of Representatives is dangerous, disingenuous, and undermines women’s access to the full range of reproductive healthcare options, including abortion care. Instead of acting to ensure that working women and their families have access to paid sick and family leave, affordable childcare, and a viable safety net, they are working to pass additional restrictions that limit the freedom of women to make their own decisions about their health, bodies, and lives. Today’s so-called “Born Alive” bill is legislation based on a fictional problem, but, if enacted, it would have very real consequences for women and their families.

Efforts to restrict abortion have devastating and far-reaching effects – on individuals, families, and communities. IWPR’s groundbreaking research published in the Reproductive Rights Index, produced as part of IWPR’s Status of Women in the States Initiative, provides a data-driven look at how drastically access to reproductive health care varies by location – and puts a numerical value on some of the consequences of restrictive abortion policies. Even before the most recent spate of restrictions following the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, abortion bans cost state economies billions of dollars.

IWPR remains committed to working with Congress and our partners to ensure women have access to the full range of reproductive health care services, including abortion care.

Vinyl Institute Report Highlights Critical Role of PVC in Medical Care

[ad_1]

PVC in Medical Care

The risk of using alternative materials in healthcare settings, when patients’ lives are at stake, must be weighed against PVC’s safe and reliable 50-year track record in the medical field.

Today, the Vinyl Institute released “PVC in Medical Care,” a report highlighting the safe and preferred use of PVC for more than 50 years in U.S. medical care. Decades of utilization have shown that PVC is one of the most dependable, durable, and versatile materials for healthcare settings. This document is available for free and provides educational, science-based facts and information about PVC and its positive impacts on patients and caregivers.

“No other technology can match the proven performance of PVC,” said Ned Monroe, president and CEO of the Vinyl Institute. “The risk of using alternative materials in these settings, when patients’ lives are at stake, must be weighed against PVC’s safe and reliable 50-year track record in the medical field.”

The report details the unparalleled performance of PVC and how it has revolutionized the way hospitals and medical facilities administer patient care including:

  •     preserving blood longer – for 42 days – when stored in a PVC bag,
  •     extending the shelf life of medicines – PVC packaging seals tightly and can be tamper-resistant
  •     eliminating breakable containers, such as glass, for the storage of blood and dialysate fluid, due to PVC’s strong and durable nature,
  •     preventing the spread of disease and infection with PVC flooring, wall coverings, and furniture due to PVC’s excellent surface properties and cleanability.

The new report also highlights how the U.S. PVC industry has improved the way the material is safely produced, used, and responsibly managed including substantially reducing emissions which protect workers, neighboring communities, and the environment.

Additionally, the report addresses global PVC medical recycling programs in place. Last year, the Vinyl Sustainability Council announced a call for interest in a U.S. medical recycling pilot program. Based on responses from PVC recyclers, manufacturers, and healthcare systems, a pilot program is slated to launch this year.

The PVC in Medical Care document is available for download.

About the Vinyl Institute:

The Vinyl Institute (VI), founded in 1982, is a U.S. trade association representing the leading manufacturers of vinyl, vinyl chloride monomer, vinyl additives, and modifiers. The VI works on behalf of its members to promote the benefits of the world’s most versatile plastic, used to make everything from PVC piping to flooring, roofing, and vinyl siding. The vinyl industry in the United States employs over 350,000 highly skilled employees at nearly 3,000 facilities and generates an economic value of $54 billion.
