Home health and hospice professionals can save 25% on new Board of Medical Specialty Coding & Compliance (BMSC) certifications in October.

BMSC is the credentialing arm of the Association of Home Care Coding & Compliance (AHCC), the leading home health professional community of DecisionHealth. BMSC offers three home health professional credentials: Home Care Coding Specialist – Diagnosis (HCS-D), Home Care Coding Specialist – Hospice (HCS-H), and Home Care Clinical Specialist – OASIS (HCS-O).

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Oct. 3, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — For the month of October, home health and hospice professionals can save 25% on new Board of Medical Specialty Coding & Compliance (BMSC) certifications. BMSC is the credentialing arm of the Association of Home Care Coding & Compliance (AHCC), the leading home health professional community of DecisionHealth. BMSC credentials represent the gold standard of knowledge in home care and hospice and are used to identify leaders in coding and OASIS accuracy.

BMSC offers three professional credentials:

Both coding specialists review patients’ records and assign codes properly for diagnoses in the appropriate setting. Successful HCS-D and HCS-H candidates possess expertise in the application of ICD-10-CM conventions and guidelines and are knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.

HCS-O credential holders are healthcare professionals (registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, coding specialists, billing specialists, compliance directors, quality assurance directors, administrators, and agency directors) with specialized knowledge in applying clinical assessment findings to OASIS items. Although these individuals perform different jobs, the role of ensuring the accuracy of OASIS data is the same. To effectively ensure the accuracy of OASIS data, they must understand and apply the instructions contained in the OASIS Guidance Manual, category-specific questions and answers, and quarterly updates provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

AHCC also offers a BMSC Candidate Handbook, study guides, and practice exams to help professionals prepare to sit and earn their respective credentials.

Rimidi to Showcase New Chronic Kidney Disease Module at HLTH 2023, Complementing Suite of Chronic Disease Management Solutions

Similar to Rimidi’s additional chronic disease modules, the CKD Module will combine clinically relevant data from the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with patient-generated data from connected devices and patient surveys into a streamlined, problem-oriented view that allows for better risk stratification and chronic disease management.

Specifically, Rimidi’s CKD Module:

  • Allows clinicians to visualize a consolidated view of relevant diagnoses, medications, lab results, risk scores and current treatment modalities such as dialysis on one screen, within their EHR workflow.
  • Presents a Kidney Failure Risk Equation (KFRE) based on data ingested from the EHR. The KFRE predicts the 5-year risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3-5.
  • Enables providers to address gaps in care versus practice guidelines and triage CKD patients’ needs with population-level risk stratification tools.

“Given that Rimidi already supports disease management and remote patient monitoring for diabetes and hypertension, two common risk factors for CKD, developing a full CKD Module was a natural platform progression,” said Lucienne Ide, MD, PhD, Founder and CEO of Rimidi. “As we continue to see innovations in connected devices and systems for treating and assessing CKD progression, being able to analyze and interpret all relevant data in a unified platform will drive clinical efficiency, coordination, and positive impact for CKD patients.”

In 2024, Rimidi plans to integrate additional data from connected medical devices used in renal care to further support patient-centered and data-driven care delivery.

National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching Accredits ICARE’s Recovery Coach Training (CPRC) for University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

NBHWC certified coaches must obtain 30 hours of continuing education every two years in order to retain their certification. ICARE’s CPRC program, recently named the Best Overall Recovery Coach Certification program in 2023 by Life Coach Magazine, will provide 40 hours toward that goal. This new curriculum will attract NWHBC coaches seeking to add a Recovery Coach specialty to their health and wellness coaching practice.

Before adding the CPRC curriculum, UW-Stevens Point offered a basic health and wellness certificate program approved by the NBHWC. The CPRC course is a powerful supplement to this starter program and delivers in-depth training on the neuroscience behind recovery.

“The accreditation of ICARE’s online program by the National Board is excellent news for those in the health and wellness profession,” said UW-Stevens Point Assistant Professor of Health Sciences and Wellness, Brian Krolczyk. “We are excited to team with ICARE to support health coaches in empowering others in addiction recovery and renewal. This much needed training has the potential to draw high volume enrollment from board certified health coaches as it satisfies their full CE requirements for maintaining licensure.”

In 2013 ICARE’s CPRC training was accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), which is the gold standard in the professional coaching world. “NBHWC’s accreditation of our program catapults the Recovery Coaching profession to a new level of professionalism in the health and wellness space. Also, this accreditation renders Recovery Coaching insurance billable, which makes recovery coaching an increasingly attractive career choice.”

UW-Stevens Point Director of Continuing Education, Jennifer Hess, was instrumental in getting the application submitted and approved by the NBHWC. According to Hess, this specialized training allows the University to educate health and wellness coaches on how to reduce alcoholism and other forms of substance use disorder (SUD) such as opioids on a regional, national and global scale.

According to Hess, the tagline Drink Wisconsin-ably is alive and well. The state is notorious for alcohol and opioid abuse. “Our partnership with ICARE provides a new opportunity to skill people to assist those with addiction to get and stay sober. This new offering enables coaches seeking to specialize in addiction to serve the needs of our troubled region and beyond.”

About the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

Located in the heart of Wisconsin, UW-Stevens Point offers three distinctive campuses with a variety of degree options for undergraduate, graduate and adult learners. Ranked highly by U.S. News and World Report for its value and graduation rates, UW-Stevens Point provides an affordable education as well as highly qualified faculty, beneficial support services and a wide range of student experiences. Expanding programs in health care, technology, natural resources and the arts prepare students as tomorrow’s global professionals, and help them discover their purpose.
