Harris Teeter launches 2023 Harvest Feast Round Up campaign to benefit local food banks this holiday season

Company accepting monetary donations at registers to further support hunger relief efforts

MATTHEWS, N.C., Nov. 1, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Harris Teeter announced today the launch of its Harvest Feast Round Up Campaign. Through Dec. 26, Harris Teeter shoppers are invited to round up their transactions to the nearest whole dollar at checkout; 100% of funds raised will benefit hunger relief partners in local communities.

In 2022, Harris Teeter shoppers and associates donated $1 million through last year’s Harvest Feast campaign for those facing food insecurity. The Company hopes to raise even more money during this year’s campaign as the number of children and families living in America who are facing hunger and food insecurity continues to grow. According to Feeding America, more than 34 million people face food insecurity, including 1 in 9 children. In 2022, 49 million people turned to food assistance for extra help.

Since 2005, Harris Teeter’s Harvest Feast Round Up campaign has raised more than $12 million in monetary donations and hundreds of thousands of pounds of nonperishable food.

“The number of hardworking families, including children, seniors and veterans, within our communities who do not know when they will have their next meal, is astonishing,” said Danna Robinson, Director of Corporate Affairs for Harris Teeter. “More and more families in our communities rely on the help of our food bank partners which is why it is so important to Harris Teeter to provide a convenient way for shoppers to give back.”

Harris Teeter is proud to partner with 19 agencies throughout its marketing areas to help eliminate hunger for food-insecure families throughout the year. Both Harris Teeter’s food bank and food pantry partners are assigned stores within their service areas to ensure 100% of the funds collected through this campaign remain local to the community in which the donation is made.

“We are continuously overwhelmed by the generosity of our valued associates and shoppers who help us provide millions of meals to our community members in need each year. It is important to remind our shoppers that every dollar raised at their Harris Teeter will go directly to serving hungry families within their community,” said Robinson.

The success of Harris Teeter’s Harvest Feast campaign hinges on the generosity of its loyal shoppers and valued associates. Supporting our neighbors in need is more important than ever and Harris Teeter hopes for continued participation again in 2023.

Prem Rawat Foundation Provides Humanitarian Aid for Morocco Earthquake Victims

“It’s difficult to comprehend the devastation this earthquake caused, and our hearts go out to all those who are suffering from this disaster,” says Linda Pascotto, TPRF Board Chair. “Thanks to all of you who donated to TPRF to support this humanitarian effort. You are giving people a helping hand when they need it the most.”

To deliver the aid, TPRF has given grants to three other nonprofit organizations who are in strong positions on the ground to help people who need it the most.

A grant of $60,000 to the local Abdelhadi Tazi Foundation (A.T. Foundation) will be used to provide direct financial support to approximately 50 of the poorest families in the Ourika region who are most impacted by the earthquake. Many of these families lost their homes and belongings, are unable to work due to injury, and will need the aid to survive the approaching winter. Monthly grants to each family of approximately $200 for the next six months will be designated for water, food, blankets, gas stoves, medications and other necessities.

“We have been deeply touched by the fact that TPRF was the very first organization to offer its assistance, calling us within hours of the devastating earthquake. We are very grateful to TPRF and all the donors around the world for their support,” says Y. Tazi, President of A.T. Foundation. “The donations received will support the economic recovery of the most vulnerable and assist them in overcoming the harsh winter conditions. While material support is important, knowing that they are not alone and that others care gives the victims of the earthquake hope, providing them with the mental strength to overcome their difficulties, which is just as important.”

A grant of $50,000 to World Central Kitchen will help fund two food kitchens to nourish survivors in the towns of Asni and Oulad Berhi, as well as help provide food kits to rural families who do not have access to the community kitchens.

A grant of $50,000 to CESVI will provide further emergency supplies and psychosocial support to people in need in a variety of other mountainous communities.

“Thanks to the generous support of TPRF, which has once again chosen to be by our side, we at CESVI will be able to provide support to the most vulnerable people affected by the tremendous earthquake in Morocco,” says Roberto Vignola, Deputy General Manager and Head of Communication and Fundraising Unit of CESVI. “We will distribute cooking sets, hygiene and dignity kits, and mental health and psychosocial support to address the trauma and ensure the well-being of affected individuals. Additionally, we will provide children with a safe and inclusive environment with recreational activities, support their education and development, increase their resilience, and bring a sense of stability and continuity back into their lives.”

Addressing Needs Beyond the Morocco Earthquake

Since Prem Rawat founded TPRF in 2001, it has given 180 grants totaling over $6.3 million to a variety of partner NGOs in 47 countries to help victims of natural disasters, COVID-19, war and other tragedies.

The humanitarian grants are just one of the ways that TPRF fulfills its mission of addressing fundamental human needs and advancing dignity, peace and prosperity across the globe.

TPRF’s Food for People program has provided over 5.7 million nutritious meals, clean water and educational opportunities to underserved children and elderly adults in India, Nepal and Ghana.

TPRF also offers the Peace Education Program, an innovative series of video-based workshops that have helped 400,000 people in 80 countries discover their own inner strength, hope and peace.

Registered as a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, TPRF has earned the highest rankings from independent evaluators such as Charity Navigator and GuideStar for financial responsibility, transparency and accountability.

TriageLogic Announces MedMessage Assist Tool That Protects Doctors’ Offices From Malpractice Liability

How does it do this? By scanning text as a nonclinical operator is typing it.

MedMessage Assist then prompts the phone operator to ask further questions about patient symptoms. This allows providers to understand quickly and accurately assess how urgently they need to address the caller.

MedMessage Assist does not replace a triage nurse or a doctor, but it ensures that crucial calls get addressed quickly.

Dr. Charu Raheja, CEO of TriageLogic, recently explained that the beauty of MedMessage Assist is how it acts as a failsafe for operators. “Nonclinical operators don’t know when certain symptoms can be indicative of more serious conditions because they haven’t had that training and certification. MedMessage Assist makes sure that they ask the right questions so patients receive timely nurse assistance.”

MMA has already demonstrated over 99 percent accuracy when providing nurses with relevant patient health data. Precise patient intake means faster dispositions and better health outcomes for those who may need immediate assistance. Operators also become more efficient, which improves the quality of their calls and reduces practice liability.

MMA can also integrate with chatbots and automated systems to ensure doctors receive accurate and complete information from their prompts.

MMA Example
TriageLogic recently cited a patient calling for a prescription refill as an example of how MMA can help.

“Under normal circumstances, that message could easily indicate that a patient is simply calling in a refill request — nothing urgent,” said Dr. Raheja. “But we saw where MMA prompted additional questions for the operator to ask, leading the patient to explain how they’d been experiencing a severe headache and numbness in their left arm. These were clearly indications that a nurse or doctor needed to contact them immediately.”

MMA Implementation, Training, and Compliance
TriageLogic notes how MMA is designed to work with a practice’s existing software and easily integrate with an EMR’s workflow. This eliminates the need for implementing an entirely new system, or worrying about synchronizing data across platforms. Best of all, it is very affordable, and easy to use.

It can also cut the average training periods for new nonclinical operators in half, thanks to its self-teaching modules.

Finally, MMA complies with HIPAA requirements and cybersecurity best practices for healthcare.

Triage Nurses Benefit Practice Liability
While medical message intake is clearly vital to patient care, the same goes for having available triage nurses who can call those patients back in the appropriate windows of time. These are the nurses who evaluate patient symptoms over the phone using Schmitt-Thompson protocols, then direct them to the appropriate levels of care.

When practices are short-staffed, or simply don’t have enough telephone triage coverage, they’re encouraged to use TriageLogic’s Nurse Triage On Call service. This includes registered nurses who operate from a medical call center, and have been trained on the best patient phone etiquette. They utilize intuitive triage software with integrated Schmitt-Thompson protocols to evaluate the severity of all patient symptoms, document all interactions, and share that information directly with providers for continuity of care.

They also have the ability to schedule appointments (in-person and telehealth), as well as direct patients to the ER when necessary.

Nurse Triage On Call is available 24 hours a day, and operates as an extension of a provider’s own practice. This ensures all patient calls are answered and addressed so that patient health outcomes are improved, while practice liability and malpractice lawsuits are both substantially reduced.

Practices that are interested in learning more about MedMessage Assist and nurse triage phone services are encouraged to contact TriageLogic at [email protected], through their website, or by calling (800) 723-4290.

By way of membership with the FHLBSF, Clearinghouse CDFI sponsors projects through the AHEAD Program. These projects coincide with Clearinghouse CDFI’s mission to create or retain jobs, improve community infrastructure, produce more affordable housing, and serve distressed low- and moderate-income areas nationwide.

“We are incredibly grateful to sponsor these grants, which will be effectively deployed to enhance Tribal communities,” said Douglas J. Bystry, President and CEO of Clearinghouse CDFI. “We have longstanding relationships with many of our partners, including WMAHA and Red Feather, as well as NAOMI who received a loan from Clearinghouse CDFI in 2022. We’re pleased to secure this opportunity to create more positive impact.”

The programs are:

NAOMI House Cultural Identity Program
Native American Outreach Ministries Inc. (NAOMI) works to provide safe and loving homes for Native American children in Arizona with its emergency shelter and foster care program. NAOMI will develop a cultural program for Native foster youth to learn about their history, establish strong indigenous identities, and build confidence. Educational materials, cultural activities, travel, and staff costs will be supported by AHEAD grant, which totals $25,000.

Native American Veterans Technical Outreach Project Part 2
The White Mountain Apache Housing Authority (WMAHA) promotes and develops quality affordable housing and other economic development opportunities for Tribal members on the White Mountain Apache reservation in eastern Arizona. WMAHA will continue presenting an annual event at which veteran members of the tribe obtain information on veteran benefits, mental and behavioral health resources, employment and training services, and home loan products. The event will also provide access to various government and private sector representatives who can help veterans sign up for these services. This AHEAD grant, totaling $50,000, will help pay for event fees, marketing, and materials.

Support Hopi Small Business Project
The Hopi Credit Association is a Native Community Development Financial Institution loan fund that offers a range of financial products and development services to Tribal members residing on the Hopi Reservation. The project will support small businesses and entrepreneurs by maintaining a local business directory, providing training opportunities and a marketplace for participants to sell their products or advertise services, and laying the groundwork to establish a Hopi Chamber of Commerce. AHEAD grant funds totaling $25,000 will help pay costs for the creation of the directory and event space for training and the market.

Tribal Housing Strategies for a Changing Climate
The Red Feather Development Group (Red Feather) partners with the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Tribe in Arizona to provide sustainable solutions to housing needs in their respective Tribal communities. Red Feather will continue the Healthy Home Education initiative, which aims to provide Native communities with skills to improve their home health and safety, increase energy efficiency and resilience to climate change, and spur economic development through home trades.
