Optimism Remains Strong on Future of Learning

Podcasts and videos were the most popular technology used in training. Half of survey respondents were currently using podcasts and videos in their training programs. Simulations and scenario-based learning were used by 49 percent of respondents.

The 2023 State of the Industry report also examined content distribution and delivery methods. Along with employee orientation and mandatory and compliance training, the training topic areas rounding out the top five included interpersonal skills (89 percent); processes, procedures, and business practices (89 percent); and managerial and supervisory training (89 percent).

The top two training delivery methods were live instructor-led traditional classrooms (92 percent) and live instructor-led virtual classrooms (82 percent). Blended learning was the least commonly used method for goods-producing industries and for healthcare and social assistance, according to the report.

Other key findings from the report include:

  • The average cost per hour of training used was $115.
  • The average number of learning hours used per employee was 20.7 in 2022, down from 32.9 in 2021.
  • Learning hours used per employee were highest for healthcare and social assistance, at 28.5 hours.
  • Half of survey respondents believed learning hours used per employee would increase in the coming months.

A free webinar on the report will take place Tuesday, December 19, at 2 p.m. ET.

Pastor Dino Rizzo Recaps Recent Outreach for Veterans Day

Dino Rizzo, a 35-year ministry veteran and the co-founder of Healing Place Church, recaps recent outreach that Church of the Highlands and Highlands Church held for Veterans Day.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Dec. 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Pastor Dino Rizzo, a 35-year ministry veteran who is the executive director of ARC Churches and co-founder of Healing Place Church, recently celebrated the many outreach efforts churches completed for Veterans Day.

Dino Rizzo highlighted that, for the first time, Church of the Highlands in Alabama held an outreach event on Veterans Day, November 11. The church community celebrated all veterans and their families at the Highlands College location.

The event served as a great way for Church of the Highlands and Highlands College to conduct outreach with a particular community group — those veterans who have served the country in the most unselfish way possible.

As Dino Rizzo commented about the event on Veterans Day:

“What a true privilege to serve and honor our veterans today. Over 1,000 veterans and their families joined us today for a special ceremony and meal. We are beyond grateful for their sacrifice and service. God bless America!”

The event had such an impressive turnout, largely due to the outreach and awareness efforts that Church of the Highlands members undertook before the event. Those who knew a veteran were asked to participate by spreading the word about the event.

The goal of the event was to honor as many veterans in the local community as possible, letting them know how much their service has meant to the community at large.

Highlands College hosted more than 1,000 veterans and their families on its campus. The event honored all military service members for their courage, sacrifice, and service to the country.

One of the highlights of the event, according to Dino Rizzo, was when retired Navy Captain J. Charles “Charlie” Plumb shared his experience as a Prisoner of War. Plumb is a recipient of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and the P.O.W. Medal.

Highlands College recognized him for his courage and bravery while he served America.

In addition, the college honored Daniel Williams for his impact on the veterans’ community. He has done so by covering the cost of training for service dogs at Highlands College Evening tuition.

Every veteran who attended the event was given a commemorative Challenge Coin from a student or alumni of Highlands College, who also personally thanked and honored them for their service.

During a sermon that he gave at Church of the Highlands in early November, Dino Rizzo reflected on his own life and how it applies to veterans and others in need in the community. He said:

“It stuck with me that I’m going to have problems in my life, that problems are going to come into my world, that no matter what problems come into my life, God is always going to give me greater promises than the problems that I faced. And when I embrace those promises, no matter how big the problems are, I can keep walking in my purpose because God has a purpose for our life.”

About Dino Rizzo

Dino Rizzo, a seasoned pastor with 35 years of ministry experience, co-founded Healing Place Church in 1993 with his wife, DeLynn, and served for over two decades as senior pastor. A strong believer in inspiring others to serve their communities, Dino Rizzo founded the organization “Servolution.” He’s co-founder and Executive Director of ARC (Association of Related Churches), overseeing 1000+ church plants worldwide while also serving on the Senior Leadership Team at Church of the Highlands.

Chronic Care Staffing Ranks No. 22 on the SC 50 Fastest Growing Companies List

Improved Processes Drive Increased Satisfaction and Solid Growth

In addition to driving continued revenue growth in 2023, Charleston-based Chronic Care Staffing has launched initiatives to further cement its reputation as a world-class service provider and a desirable place to work, including:

Inaugural Team Leader Retreat

Chronic Care Staffing welcomed its clinical leadership staff from across the country to Charleston SC for an intensive three-day retreat in March 2023. During this gathering, CCS management provided a comprehensive overview of the state of the virtual healthcare services industry and the company’s plans for growth. The Quality Committee provided updates on satisfaction measures and performance improvement. Finally, group exercises went beyond mere teambuilding to brainstorm and establish the company’s Core Values of client and patient service. “As our eight-year-old startup matures, we felt it was time to take stock, further define our goals and mission, and to set benchmarks for future growth,” notes CEO Cas Danielowski. “Our team gathered, took the exercise seriously, and made major strides!”

Improved Employee Health Insurance Coverage

Employer health benefits are a crucial component of attracting and retaining talent. One of the most attractive – and rarest – benefits is a zero-premium health insurance plan for employees. In 2023, Chronic Care Staffing associates joined the ranks of employer-insured consumers enjoying free health insurance premiums. “Our Care Coordinators give their all every day, providing a crucial service arm to our healthcare clients,” says CCS Chief Operating Officer Connor Danielowski. “Offering the financial and motivational boost of lower-cost health coverage is the least we can do for this dedicated team.”

AI-driven Customer Engagement Tools Improve Satisfaction and Reimbursements

Chronic Care Staffing has adopted cloud-based customer engagement software that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to improve QA, service delivery, and customer interactions. Real-time coaching helps CCS Care Coordinators improve their communication skills and resolve patient issues more effectively – improvements that result in higher patient satisfaction scores and increased reimbursements.

Million Call Milestone

Since its founding in 2015, Chronic Care Staffing has committed itself to achieving a leadership role in the healthcare industry’s pursuit of Value Based Care.

2023 marks eight years of dedicated service to clients such as Primary Care practices, FQHCs, Hospital Systems, and ACOs. It also denotes eight years of innovation, with an expanding roster of timesaving and compliance-promoting virtual care solutions such as Chronic Care Management, Health Risk Assessments, Transitional Care Management, and Virtual Staff Augmentation.

This commitment to superior service and innovative solutions has resulted in a significant 2023 milestone for Chronic Care Staffing: crossing the threshold of one-million billable calls.

A Moment for Reflection and Projection

End-of-year accolades such as South Carolina’s 50 Fastest Growing Companies serve as a signpost to CSS associates, clients, patients, and industry peers. Naturally, Connor Danielowski reflects on the past year’s achievements and speculates on future success. “It bears repeating: growth is rewarding and recognition from your peers is very gratifying. But it is important to remind ourselves that we earned this honor, and to ask ourselves how we did it. If we intend to keep earning this nod – and we do – CCS must keep defining success, strengthening our standards, and adapting our methods to achieve the client and patient satisfaction that drives market growth.”

About Chronic Care Staffing

Chronic Care Staffing collaborates nationwide with clients ranging from small practices to large health systems. CCS is a clinically-based company that does not sell software – all programs are designed to generate income for clients without an upfront investment.

Gravitas Medical Inc. Announces SECOND FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for its Entarik System; Pediatric Patients to Benefit from Enteral Nutrition Innovation!

“Since 2016, only eight (8) medical device manufacturers have been granted multiple Breakthrough Designations and only one of those in the same year”, said Jorgen B. Hansen, CEO of Gravitas Medical. “This second designation recognizes the lifesaving potential of Entarik for pediatric and adolescent patients in addition to neonates.” Gravitas Medical previously received FDA approval for adult use of the Entarik platform in March 2023 and Breakthrough Designation for neonates in September 2023. Hansen added, “Entarik will reduce the amount of time pediatric, neonatal, and adult patients spend in intensive care. Reducing lengths of stay and improving patient outcomes is our focus.”

Entarik is designed to aid, in conjunction with institutional protocols, qualified operators (medical professionals) in the placement of the Gravitas Enteral Feeding Tube into the stomach of infant, child, and adolescent patients requiring enteral feeding. The Gravitas Feeding Tube is equipped with sensors designed to provide information about the location of the tube tip relative to the stomach, assisting in reducing the incidence of misplacement during first positioning while continuously monitoring for tube dislodgement. The Gravitas Pediatric Feeding Tube is intended for the administration of nutrition, fluids and medications by the nasoenteric route for pediatric patients who have an intact gastrointestinal tract but are physically unable to manage nutritional intake normally.

Breakthrough Device Designation is Difficult to Earn

Breakthrough Device Designation is difficult to achieve, and Gravitas Medical’s Entarik Feeding System has earned two (2) of the 109 designations reported for 2023 on the FDA website. To earn Breakthrough Designation, a device must demonstrate potential to enhance the treatment or diagnosis of life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating medical conditions and no approved alternatives can exist. The Breakthrough Device program’s benefits include expediting device development, prioritizing subsequent regulatory submissions, and potentially provides for faster reimbursement after clearance.

“This second Breakthrough Designation recognizes the importance of the Gravitas Medical team’s work and Entarik’s potential to save lives of pediatric patients,” concluded Hansen.

About Gravitas Medical

Gravitas Medical Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based medical device company committed to revolutionizing enteral feeding into enteral nutrition intelligence. By harnessing the power of technology, Gravitas Medical transforms gut-related information into actionable insights for caregivers. This approach enables better decision-making, improved patient outcomes, reduced hospital stays, and a decreased overall cost of care.

Healthcare providers face increasingly long waits for payments, worsening financial stress

Kodiak Revenue Cycle Analytics (RCA) software monitors every patient financial transaction from more than 1,800 hospitals and 200,000 physicians nationwide. Kodiak analyzes data gathered from RCA clients to monitor payor behaviors and provide actionable insights to support targeted performance discussions with payors.

Initial denials up nearly 20%

Kodiak RCA data analysis shows that the leading driver of accounts aged more than 90 days is the surge in initially denied claims: According to the report, the initial claim denial rate as a percentage of claim value in 2020 was 10.15% and rose to 11.99% through the third quarter of 2023, an 18.1% increase.

“Resolving these payor denials requires a significant investment of time, resources and management attention from revenue cycle departments,” said Colleen Hall, senior vice president and Revenue Cycle leader at Kodiak Solutions.

“The initial denials cause delays sending bills to patients, and the longer patient billing is delayed after a procedure or hospital stay, the lower the collection rate for providers,” Hall said. “This amplifies the financial impact on provider organizations at a time when they are already under tremendous financial pressure.”

The quarterly benchmarking report also revealed:

  • Through the third quarter of 2023, commercially insured patients are responsible for about 23% of their medical bills, including both inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Aged accounts receivable (AR) greater than 90 days as a percentage of claim value for patients with commercial insurance reached 36% for 2023 through the end of the third quarter compared with 27% for 2020. The percentage for MA-insured patients rose to 27% through the end of the third quarter of 2023 compared with 19% in 2020.
  • Through the third quarter of 2023, self-pay after insurance collection rate for commercially insured patients as a percentage of claim value was 36.1%.

“Health systems that want to mitigate these challenges can enhance their communication with patients from the date of service to the billing date,” Hall said. “When patients receive clear and prompt updates from providers, it reduces the possibility of overlooked medical bills and can increase the likelihood of on-time payment.”
