This is the culmination of a year-long redesign project that began with discussions about brand and mission, who we are as a company, and our vision for the future.

National seniors housing operator Meridian Senior Living announced the launch of its new redesigned website: http://www.meridiansenior.com on February 27, 2020. Not only does the new website better reflect the Meridian culture of creating extraordinary experiences for their residents, it also provides more advanced features, an enhanced user experience, and improved resources to caregivers, seniors, and professionals.

“This is the culmination of a year-long redesign project that began with discussions about brand and mission, who we are as a company, and our vision for the future,” states Kevin Carlin, Principal and Chief Sales Officer. “The result of those discussions guided the project and how we made decisions. We are very proud of the final product.”

In conjunction with the site build, Meridian updated its Corporate Branding Guide with changes to typography, an expanded and brightened color palette, guidelines for photo curation, and core messaging. These changes can be seen in the overall look and feel of the site—the first step in a complete rollout of a nationwide branding refresh for the company.

A redesigned website and community level sites are integral elements in executing Meridian’s ambitious multi-year corporate marketing plan with a focus on branding, digital advertising, analytics and the sales process. Through its strategic partnerships, Meridian continues to grow and expand its footprint in key markets. The new website allows Meridian to be more strategic with its marketing efforts, gathering data to make more informed marketing decisions that will pay off for its current portfolio and future worthwhile investments.

“There’s a lot of momentum at Meridian right now,” said Carlin. “The website is the launchpad for more exciting things to come.”

Created with the user journey in mind, Meridian’s new website has a simple, organized menu layout for easy, intuitive navigation. Other features include a more comprehensive search option including geolocation; Richer location pages with enhanced photo galleries, floor plans, activity calendars, news, menus, distinctive programs, and amenities; and a responsive design optimized for all devices.

For those seeking resources, the new website offers a more robust section with helpful guides on aging-related topics; The Navigator blog with articles and tips; how to afford care; and navigating memory loss.

SIUE School of Pharmacy Adds Mental Health First Aid Training to Curriculum

A group of 30 SOP faculty and staff completed the Mental Health First Aid training program.

“When we incorporate MHFA into the curriculum, it sends a message to both students and the community that having an understanding and knowledge of how to respond to a mental health crisis is just as important as other health crises.”

A leading institution of pharmaceutical education, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy (SOP) is one of only a few institutions in the country to have incorporated an important Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course to its curriculum for first-year (P1) students.

More than 70 students completed the inaugural MHFA training in the spring 2020 semester. The 8-hour skills-based course teaches participants about mental health and substance use disorders. Through active participation, students learn skills such as how to respond if someone is having a panic attack, ask someone about thoughts of suicide, and respond to an opioid overdose.

The training was facilitated by certified MHFA instructors Kelly Gable, PharmD, professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and psychiatric clinical pharmacist at Family Care Health Centers, and Misty Gonzalez, PharmD, clinical associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and psychiatric clinical pharmacist at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

“SIUE School of Pharmacy Dean Mark Luer and faculty overwhelmingly supported the integration of this program into our P1 academic year,” Gonzalez said. “When we incorporate MHFA into the curriculum, it sends a message to both students and the community that having an understanding and knowledge of how to respond to a mental health crisis is just as important as other health crises.”

Moving forward, every P1 will complete the MHFA program as part of their Personal and Professional Development course.

“I am so grateful to have Drs. Gable and Gonzales offer this to our students as trained program facilitators,” said Jessica Kerr, PharmD, associate dean of professional and student affairs. “Training our first-year students guides them to have awareness about mental health concerns, before the pharmacotherapeutic class sequences. This skill set is important for them to appropriately triage patients, peers, family members or the general public.”

“After completing our first training cohort, we feel confident that our pharmacy students need this experience for their own mental health wellness and to better take care of each other, as well as future patients and communities,” Gable added. “I have no doubt that they left feeling empowered and better equipped to respond to a mental health crisis. This is an opportunity to talk to our students about how they all play a critical role in reducing stigma and enhancing access to mental health care.”

“Pharmacy is a people profession, and the reality is that people, ourselves included, face mental health challenges daily,” said PharmD candidate Deja Finley, of O’Fallon. “It is awesome that we were given the opportunity to learn how to properly identify, understand, and respond to those mental health and substance use concerns. The mental health first aid class taught me a lot and greatly renewed my excitement to continue on the road to becoming truly trauma informed.”

In spring 2020, Gable and Gonzalez also trained a group of 30 SOP faculty and staff, demonstrating the SOP’s shared emphasis on the MHFA program’s value.

Today’s pharmacists improve patients’ lives through the medication and education they provide. Dedicated to developing a community of caring pharmacists, the SIUE School of Pharmacy curriculum is a model that offers students a unique combination of classroom education, research, community service and patient care. The School of Pharmacy’s areas of excellence include a drug design and discovery core; pediatric practice; chronic pain research and practice; and diabetes research and practice. As the only downstate Illinois pharmacy doctorate program, the SIUE School of Pharmacy is providing highly trained pharmacists prepared for the rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Helping Organizations Reduce the Human Cost of Mental Illness, CredibleMind Promotes Prevention and Engagement

CredibleMindPRO

This is a one-of-a-kind platform, driven by data scientists and academic experts, that is helping ensure individuals seeking help on the web are getting credible, trustworthy resources.

Mental health issues loom large today for people and organizations. Over the past decade, Google searches for anxiety have grown 400%, rates of depression and suicidal ideation have doubled in a decade on college campuses, and 7% of all prescriptions filled in the U.S. are for anxiety and depression. Yet organizations that provide coverage or deliver care struggle to de-stigmatize mental health help-seeking activities, address access issues, and get upstream from acute issues. Many times benefits offered, such as Employee Assistance Programs, go under-utilized.

That’s why CredibleMind, the leading consumer website promoting mental health, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual growth, announced today the launch of a customizable behavioral health navigation solution—CredibleMindPRO—for employers, insurers, healthcare providers, and community organizations.

“Seventy-five percent of people who attempt to work on mental health issues do so on their own rather than with the help of professionals, noted Deryk Van Brunt, Ph.D., co-founder and chief executive officer of CredibleMind. “And 95% end up in the wild west of the World Wide Web.”

CredibleMindPRO lets them do so with greater confidence, showcasing expert-vetted resources as well as services available through their own employer, insurer, or healthcare provider. “We bring it all together in one place, in a friendly, familiar format, like Amazon or Netflix. We offer personalized recommendations, expert and user ratings, engaging self-assessments, and easy-to-understand articles introducing each topic,” added Dr. Van Brunt.

“This is a one-of-a-kind platform, driven by data scientists and academic experts, that is helping ensure individuals seeking help on the web are getting credible, trustworthy resources,” said Tyler Norris, MD, Chief Executive, Well Being Trust and a CredibleMindPRO partner.

CredibleMindPRO goes well beyond the company’s direct-to-consumer site by delivering a co-branded, localized, integrated, system-wide platform. It enables organizations to help people better navigate their behavioral health benefits, connect to high-performance networks, and start upstream to reduce mental health risks and build greater resilience. Near real-time analytics deliver de-identified metrics, helping organizations catch trends early and finetune intervention strategies.

Using AI models designed by nationally renowned experts from Harvard and Stanford Universities, and core content written by leaders in dozens of disciplines, CredibleMindPRO delivers more than 20,000 self-care interventions covering over 100 topic areas, continuously updated and refined through both machine learning and expert curation.

About CredibleMind

We help people flourish by optimizing their mental health, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual growth. We help people find the most appropriate evidence-based resources and interventions in a friendly, familiar, and accessible form. CredibleMindPRO, our enterprise offering, provides a localized engagement and navigation platform for mental health that enables employers, insurers, healthcare providers and community organizations to address population-based mental health. Teen Starlet Kelsey Coleman Opens Up on Mental Health Issues, Bullying and How Music Proved to be the Answer

Kelsey’s music has a celestial and delicate ambience, transporting the listener to a dream-like state

Artist: Kelsey Coleman

Title: Nobody – Single

F.F.O: Halsey, Zara Larsson, Melanie Martinez

https://soundcloud.com/kelsey-sc/nobody

No gimmicks, no costumes and no glazing over the everyday issues that we all encounter, Kelsey Coleman’s songs are raw and will engage listeners from all walks of life. Born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey, Kelsey’s music has a celestial and delicate ambience, transporting the listener to a dream-like state where they can truly resonate with the conversational nature of her lyrics.

Driven to communicate through her tracks by issues she has personally experienced, including cyber-bullying and loneliness, Kelsey is an all-American girl with a truthfulness which is lacking in so much of 2020’s pop music scene. Nobody is her first single release, a sombre track lyrically, yet ultimately an uplifting journey through break-up and self-discovery.

Kelsey in her own words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjtV1oananE&feature=youtu.be

Kelsey’s music is certainly emotionally driven, thematically encompassing issues such as dealing with depression, love lost, mistakes made and separation from friends. Her track Nobody alludes to the haunting experience of being lost to the memory of a loved one and feeling like a stranger to someone you once knew so well. On the related theme of vulnerability and hopelessness, Stay explores the difficulty of being stuck and the inability to leave a dysfunctional and toxic relationship. The enchanting electronic sounds paired with Kelsey’s soulful voice can be likened to pop superstar Halsey, whom Kelsey has previously stated as a major inspiration to her music.

Having worked with influential names in the music business, such as producers Tarro (Blackbear) and writers including Myah Marie (Britney Spears and Lil Wayne) – Kelsey is sure to make an explosive debut.

Kelsey’s songs have a genuine and organic sound to them, achieved through writing original music in her bedroom and coffee shops. She begins her musical endeavor just as she propels herself into studying music technology at the world-renowned NYU Steinhardt.

Kelsey Coleman will be making a UK live debut this Spring with a nationwide tour of UK schools where she will not only be performing her songs but talking to students about her own struggles with mental health issues and the dangers of social media and cyber bullying.

Ever Learning’s All Access Autism Toolkit helps Parents of Children with Autism

“With Ever Learning’s All-Access, parents, educators and even clinicians have access to hundreds of customizable tools to tailor ABA interventions programs for their own specific needs.” said Karen Chung, CEO at Special Learning, Inc.

SCARCITY OF TRAINED PROFESSIONALS TO IMPLEMENT EVIDENCE-BASED INTERVENTION PROGRAMS FOR AUTISM

There are approximately 700,000 people with autism in the world, using a conservative rate of 1 in 100. Less than 10% of the world’s population with autism have access to a life-changing intervention known as Applied Behavioral Analysis. ABA is an evidenced-based intervention that has demonstrated with early and intensive application to generate success helping children with autism to mainstream. Furthermore, ABA can help over 90% of people on the autism spectrum achieve some level of independence. Currently, we are experiencing a shortage of Board Certified Behavioral Analysts (BCBAs), certified ABA experts, with only 29,000 worldwide (and most within the U.S.). As a result of the scarcity of ABA experts to treat and supervise intervention programs, ABA therapy is currently only accessible in a handful of countries and many in families are on a waitlist for services.

The universal challenge then is twofold: 1) ABA programs consume a significant amount of time and resources (about 35 hours per week. 2) Correspondingly, ABA is very expensive with costs ranging from $75,000 –- $125,000 annually. Even if a portion of ABA therapy is covered by insurance, the out-of-pocket costs are still substantial.

MAKING ABA INTERVENTION PROGRAMS MORE ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE, AND EASIER TO CUSTOMIZE FOR PARENTS, EDUCATORS AND CLINICIANS

Ever Learning’s All Access Autism Toolkit is a monthly Subscription that delivers Autism training and Problem Behavior videos, Social Stories, Flashcards, Visual Schedules, File Folders, Tracing Cards, Assessment Tools, Data Sheets, Literature Summaries, Educator Training Series — and hundreds of other products easily accessible for an affordable price of $9.99/month to anyone with an internet connection anywhere in the world!

“With Ever Learning’s All-Access, parents, educators and even clinicians have access to hundreds of customizable tools to tailor ABA interventions programs for their own specific needs.” said Karen Chung, CEO at Special Learning, Inc.

Let’s Talk Interactive Launches COVID-19 Telehealth Response Platform

Let’s Talk Interactive’s COVID-19 Response Platform

“High-volume patient management in isolated environments paired with remote medical care are optimized throughout our telehealth platform,” explained Art Cooksey. “This is essential in helping prevent the spread of the virus – especially among healthcare providers who are needed on the front lines.”

Let’s Talk Interactive, Inc., a leading provider of customizable telehealth solutions including a sophisticated HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform, today announces the firm’s new COVID-19 Telehealth Response Platform as it continues to stay at the forefront of providing measures nationwide to ensure adequate control of the coronavirus.

The firm’s telemedicine solutions include the ability to push live bio-analytics, call triage, complete e-documents, medical care on-demand as well as a SecureVideo platform, which has proven effectiveness in supporting health systems during a prior Ebola outbreak. With the infiltration of COVID-19 throughout the U.S. and the subsequent rapid daily changes to societal operations, response scalability is of utmost importance to manage a public health crisis.

In response to COVID-19, Let’s Talk Interactive’s SecureVideo platform will manage high volumes of patients requiring screening, isolated in home environments, and in need of remote medical care. Using the Virtual Clinic features, organizations can create queues for different patient groups, such as patients requesting screening and patients that have tested positive and require monitoring. Queues can also be created for different categories of providers, such as screeners, nurses, and physicians. Patients can request consults on-demand with the different provider groups, or consultations can be scheduled as needed.

“High-volume patient management in isolated environments paired with remote medical care are optimized throughout our telehealth platform,” explained Art Cooksey, Founder and CEO of Let’s Talk Interactive. “This is essential in helping prevent the spread of the virus – especially among healthcare providers who are needed on the front lines.”

Key components of the platform include:

  • Screening and advice from a queue of logged-in nurses
  • Triage for physicians, translators and other professionals to be added to consultations on-demand
  • Home monitoring for patients in isolation in home environments; they can use their own devices (computers, phones, tablets)
  • Provider communication through secure chat features
  • Customized system to the unique requirements of each organization
  • Data management capabilities enable providers to export patient data and analytics; e-documents allow for creating patient forms
  • 24-7 U.S.-based technical support

Let’s Talk Interactive has been on the front lines of emergency health services since 2001. Most recently, the Telehealth Portals were made available to students within Florida’s Panhandle, a region that is still devastated following 2018’s Hurricane Michael and those impacted are some of the youngest in the state. As a result, 126 custom Telehealth Kiosks and iPad Portals were installed by the start of the school year within a record 42 day turnaround time. The effort, made available via insurance, Medicaid and Medicare and grants available through Big Bend Community Based Care (BBCBC), enables providers to offer counseling services through the Let’s Talk Interactive online platform. Students within these six Florida counties are able to access psychiatric care through the Telehealth Portals during the school day.

“We are an experienced team, able to move mountains with our partners here in the U.S. to quickly adapt to any crisis that creates the need for remote support from medical professionals. We will continue to do our part by utilizing our technology to help combat the potential devastation of the COVID-19 outbreak,” remarked Cooksey.

About Let’s Talk Interactive, Inc.

Autism Services are Under Attack, Special Learning, Inc is Leading the Way by Disrupting this Trend Through Systematic Supervision Tool to Redefine Quality ABA

News Image

“Remember, YOU are the key to the future field of behavior analysis. Your charge as a supervisor is to perpetuate the tradition, dedication and exceptionalism of our foundations to make a socially significant impact on your supervisees, their clients and our global society.” CEO, Karen Chung.

Special Learning, Inc has quietly released their new supervision tool to support Board Certified Behavior Analysts® (BCBA®) Supervisors to systematically streamline Supervision for upcoming Behavior Analyst Students. Prior to this tool, supervision is ad-hoc at best. The tool is directly related to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®) 4th Edition Task List which established the minimum requirements to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. The Supervision Milestone Task Analysis Assessment and Monitoring Tool has been in development for nearly 4 years with input from multiple experts in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and expounds on the minimum requirements a supervisee must possess to be a competent behavior analyst.

THE GROWTH OF THE FIELD OF APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS

The single greatest constraint to the growth and availability of ABA service is the limited number of Board Certified and Licensed Behavior Analysts in the U.S.

Since the creation of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)® in 1998, the number of Board Certified Behavior Analysts® has reached over 40,000. The growth of this profession has been unprecedented in the world of healthcare. When a field is comprised of over 53% of practitioners with less than 5 years of experience, relatively speaking, this profession is even younger than one would assume at face value. As of April 2019, there were nearly 40,000 BCBAs in the world. In 2010, there were 8,500 BCBAs. In 2015, there were 22,000 BCBAs. Soon, we will begin to see the pioneering minds in the field disappear; who’s left to fill in the gaps is yet to be defined.

The consequences and implications of this explosive growth is profound! Insatiable market demand for BCBAs has left very little time available for new BCBAs to hone their craft by being the beneficiary of extensive training, supervision and mentoring programs available to those who joined the field when demand was more in line with supply – at least in terms of availability of funds to pay for costly ABA services.

Today, we are experiencing the opposite problem. Demand and funds available to pay for ABA services has completely outstripped the supply of BCBAs. This is leading to potential supervisors with no available time to dedicate to supervision, much less the quality of supervision.

Supervision has always been at the core of the BCBA credential. In addition to the educational degrees and relevant course sequence, supervised fieldwork has been one of the primary – some would say the most important – aspects of developing the skills and knowledge of prospective BCBAs to minimal levels of competency.

HOW THE SUPERVISION TASK ANALYSIS MILESTONE ASSESSMENT MONITORING TOOL FILLS THE NEED FOR THE GROWTH OF THE FIELD

This tool was designed for supervisors to guide supervisees in meeting mastery criteria to become an effective, ethical and competent Behavior Analyst, as is similar with other curriculum-based assessment tools. This project was in development for 4 years with input from many BCBAs® across the world.

The Supervision Milestone Task Analysis Assessment & Monitoring Tool task analyzes (sub-domain) the BACB® Fourth Edition Task List (Task List) and Professional & Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts ® (PECC) by each Task List Item and creates an automated scoring across each sub-domain. In doing so, the Supervisor can analyze the progress of each of their supervisees with ease. This tool serves 5 functions:

1. Facilitates initial assessment of Supervisee on current skills and level of mastery across Task List items and sub-domains

2. Allows ongoing assessment and monitoring of skill deficits

3. Calculates scoring automatically to assist Supervisor to focus on individualized skill development

4. Provides suggested homework and practical examples for a Supervisee to complete

5. Secures and stores completed detailed records of each Supervisee in one-place (i.e. restricted vs unrestricted and assessment method used as outlined by the Task List)

Most supervisors continue to practice ABA in the field and carry a full client case load, all the while monitoring and shaping the next generation of ethical and competent behavior analysts. This presents some obvious challenges. By using the Supervision Milestone Task Analysis Assessment and Monitoring Tool, hours spent in planning and preparing for supervision sessions will decrease. This, in turn, will increase the supervisor’s capacity and efficiency in shaping new professionals to carry out and disseminate the science of ABA. Karen Chung, Founder and CEO stated, “Remember, YOU are the key to the future field of behavior analysis. Your charge as a supervisor is to perpetuate the tradition, dedication and exceptionalism of our foundations to make a socially significant impact on your supervisees, their clients and our global society.”

Starting July 1, Districts with Gaggle’s Safety Management Solution are Eligible for Web Filter Support and Tipline Service—Free of Cost

News Image

“Gaggle continues to innovate and provide new ways to help keep students safe,” said Gaggle founder and CEO Jeff Patterson. “By offering our partners a wider student safety net, we can provide school districts with greater support to proactively identify those who are struggling.”

Gaggle announced that districts using the full Gaggle Safety Management solution will receive web filter safety integration as well as Gaggle’s SpeakUp for Safety tipline at no additional cost, starting July 1. Prior to this announcement, each of these services cost an additional $2 per student. This expansion of services is part of Gaggle’s ongoing mission to support schools and districts by providing the best student safety solution available.

Gaggle works with web filtering platforms to create an integrated digital safety solution that helps districts protect students both on and off campus. As a result, our Gaggle Safety Management solution works with most web filters, including ContentKeeper, iBoss, Palo Alto Networks, LineWize, and others.

Gaggle’s first partner was ContentKeeper Technologies. “Student safety is essential, and a cross-platform solution is the right way to approach cybersecurity,” said ContentKeeper Director of Sales David Lemmon. “To be proactive, school districts must have a solution that can detect threats sourced from all device platforms and web browsers. The combination of a web filter, such as ContentKeeper, and the Gaggle safety solution provides a district with the most powerful and failsafe student safety available.”

Systems Engineer Lara Humphries at Ascension Public Schools in Louisiana has seen firsthand how the Gaggle-ContentKeeper partnership has helped individuals in her district. One instance involved a student who was diagnosed with a mental health issue. After going through treatment, his psychologist and parents thought it was time to take him off his medicine. “Within a few weeks of that happening, he started to look for self-harm information through some internet searches, and we got the phone call from Gaggle,” said Humphries. The technology department alerted the school and they were able to investigate, contacting the parents and counselor so that the student received the extra intervention he needed before being completely removed from his medicine.

The SpeakUp for Safety tipline creates an environment where students have an easy and confidential way to voice concerns without feeling as though they will get themselves or their peers in trouble. Unlike statewide tip systems, which go directly to law enforcement, information sent to our SpeakUp safety tipline is immediately reviewed and easily verified, allowing school administrators to decide how to best take action with their students.

“SpeakUp for Safety helps Milford Public Schools be proactive keeping our schools and students safe. The 24/7 human touch that Gaggle provides differentiates its safety tipline from other solutions,” said Kevin McIntyre, Ed.D., the superintendent of Milford Public Schools in Massachusetts.

Gaggle is the pioneer in helping school districts manage student safety on school-provided collaboration platforms. By combining technology and trained safety experts, Gaggle provides real-time analysis of students’ email accounts and the content they are creating on their school’s digital tools; in particular, Google G Suite for Education and Microsoft Office 365.

“Gaggle continues to innovate and provide new ways to help keep students safe,” said Gaggle founder and CEO Jeff Patterson. “By offering our partners a wider student safety net, we can provide school districts with greater support to proactively identify those who are struggling.”

About Gaggle | http://www.gaggle.net

Since 1999, Gaggle has been the leader in helping K-12 districts manage student safety on school-provided technology. Using a powerful combination of both artificial intelligence and trained safety experts, the safety solution proactively assists districts 24/7/365 in the prevention of student suicide, bullying, inappropriate behaviors, school violence, and other harmful situations. Most importantly, Gaggle continues to help hundreds of districts avoid tragedies and save lives, while also protecting their liability. In the 2018–19 academic year, Gaggle helped districts save the lives of more than 700 students who were planning or actually attempting suicide. The Urban Assembly and Congresswomen Bonnie Watson Coleman and Yvette D. Clarke Host Inaugural International SEL Day Briefing

News Image

“SEL provides tools for empathy, the skillset to direct emotions, and the capacity to find ways to collaborate, giving us a chance to come back together rather than be torn farther apart. It’s critically important for our schools… and the fabric of our American life,” says Watson Coleman.

Join the Urban Assembly and Congresswomen Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ) and Yvette Clarke (NY) at a Congressional Briefing on March 27th, the inaugural International SEL Day. A panel of experts, community leaders, policy makers, and students will convene to discuss the significance of social-emotional learning in schools and communities. The Congressional Briefing will be held on March 27th at 11:30 am at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC.

Dr. Maurice Elias of the Social Emotional Character Development Lab at Rutgers University will join Kristen Hopkins of Dangers of the Minds, Heather Rieman of The Education Trust, and Ross Wiener of the Aspen Institute to discuss the ways in which social-emotional learning improves academic and professional outcomes, positively impacts behavior and social and emotional development and growth, and provides young people with the tools to be socially and economically mobile. Urban Assembly students Ariel Fernandez and Annaistasia Morris will give testimony on how social-emotional learning has helped them in school, at home, and in their communities.

Congresswoman Clarke has been a long-standing supporter of social-emotional learning, especially for students.

“Social emotional learning plays such a vital role in building communities. SEL competencies develop throughout one’s lifespan, and they shape how we show up at work, in school, and in everyday life,” says Congresswoman Clarke. “I believe in the power of SEL to empower young people to develop positive relationships, demonstrate empathy, and make responsible decisions.”

A champion of education and advancing outcomes for young women, Congresswoman Watson Coleman asserts, “We live in a world where issues like online bullying, hate and bigotry, and disregard for the humanity of others in our communities have become commonplace, and it’s holding us back. SEL provides tools for empathy, the skillset to direct emotions, and the capacity to find ways to collaborate — giving us a chance to come back together rather than be torn farther apart. It’s critically important for our schools, our businesses, and the fabric of our American life.”

Organized by the Urban Assembly and SEL4US, International SEL Day seeks to bring awareness to the ways in which communities can become stronger through social-emotional learning.

David Adams, Director of Social-Emotional Learning with the Urban Assembly, says, “As we look forward to 2020 and beyond, our future is bright. School systems across the country have embraced social-emotional learning, civics, and a renewed commitment to restoring the social contract between Americans. Those who have committed themselves to this work represent the vanguard who seek a higher purpose of education, one that prepares those who can build physical bridges as well as those who create the desire among our citizens for those bridges to be built.”

Urban Assembly CEO Kristin Kearns Jordan, shares, “It is a fundamental responsibility of schools to support students’ social-emotional development. It is by using these skills that students will learn to persist through challenges, navigate college and career, and re-center our country around the value of mutual respect.”

The International SEL Day Congressional Briefing will be held on March 27th from 11:30am – 1pm at the 2168 Rayburn House Office Building (Gold Room), 45 Independence Avenue SW in Washington DC. Attendees should register at bit.ly/SELDayBriefing. The panel will be livestreamed on Twitter @UrbanAssembly for those not able to attend in person.
