ActX Adds COVID-19 Susceptibility Assessment to Genomic Screening

If our inclusion of this susceptibility information can help to better inform individual patients, we will consider the project a success.

ActX’s genetic clinical decision support service, also known as GenoACT, helps physicians provide better care using the patients’ genetic data. Today, ActX announced the addition of a COVID-19 susceptibility section. This information is primarily based on blood type, as that information has been well researched thus far, but will be updated with other genes as evidence for their impact accumulates.

With ActX, once patients are genotyped or sequenced, their genetic data is stored in our secure cloud, and frequently re-analyzed based on advancing medical research. Physicians benefit from real time genetic decision support as they use their Electronic Health Record (EHR) to see patients. Patients can view their ActX results online and are notified when there is an update like the COVID-19 susceptibility data. It is important to note, for those patients whose genetics suggest their susceptibility is lower than most, the genetic impact is only moderate and proper social distancing precautions and mask use should still be observed. This is clearly outlined in the patient’s COVID-19 report.

“The service we have created with ActX helps make genomics actionable in everyday medical practice,” said Dr. Andrew Ury, founder of ActX. “We work hard to keep our service updated with the latest medical research on medications, hereditary risks, and carrier status. We are thrilled to be adding the COVID-19 information to our standard offering. I think that we’ve all seen the wide range of concerns about this virus. If our inclusion of this susceptibility information can help to better inform individual patients, we will consider the project a success. We felt that it was important to address the continuing crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

About ActX

ActX is the industry leader in EHR-integrated precision medicine. Our service helps physicians make better decisions about medical treatment, using a patient’s genetic information to guide therapy. The ActX Genomic Service offers proven, tightly integrated, real-time genomic decision support for medication orders and actionable genomic risks, a built in patient Genomic Profile, and the ability to fully customize content.

As medications are ordered, and before the prescription is finalized, medications are checked against the patient’s genetics for efficacy, adverse reactions, and dosing. Extensive evidence based and actionable content is provided as default, customizable content, covering hundreds of genes. You can easily suppress any content or interactions, or add or modify content. The ActX Genomic Service is live at numerous U.S. health systems. InSight + Regroup Introduces Customized ROI Assessments to Help Healthcare Systems Measure Financial Impact of On-Demand Telepsychiatry

InSight + Regroup recently launched a customized value calculator to help hospitals and healthcare systems evaluate costs associated with their current process for managing behavioral health patient demand against savings and revenue opportunities.

The unique tool responds to a long-standing need for hospital administration to quantify the expected return on investment of behavioral health coverage via on-demand telepsychiatry. This new capability comes at a critical time as the industry faces unexpected operational and financial challenges. Many facilities are seeing a rise in demand for mental health services, while experiencing financial strain due to a simultaneous drop in ED visits in the wake of COVID-19.

For hospitals and healthcare systems considering on-demand telepsychiatry to meet growing patient need for mental health services, implementing a financially sustainable and scalable program is essential:

25% of all emergency department visits are due to behavioral health issues

3X longer emergency department boarding times for mental health admissions vs. non-mental health admissions

On-demand telepsychiatry can have a positive financial ripple effect that extends well beyond emergency departments, including reduced reliance on scarce inpatient psychiatric resources, reduced inpatient psychiatric admissions, improved emergency department throughput and increased capacity for med-surg admissions. It allows healthcare systems to allocate resources to populations with heightened need and acuity to reduce strain on clinicians and improve operational metrics.

InSight + Regroup’s value calculator uses proprietary logic based on more than two decades of experience implementing programs and delivering telepsychiatry services within hospitals and health systems. Customizable to organizations of all sizes, the tool uses validated industry data, clinical research and demonstrated outcomes to help organizations determine the financial impact of on-demand telepsychiatry applied to their specific use case. It takes into account actual direct and indirect costs associated with current behavioral health demand within a hospital in order to quantify specific areas of cost savings and highlight untapped revenue opportunities.

Using key data on current behavioral resources and gaps, such as patient length of stay, bed capacity and existing clinical coverage, hospitals and health systems can:

Isolate specific metrics that impact overall cost of care to understand where and how telepsychiatry can drive savings

Compare actual data against industry benchmarks to evaluate the broader impact of telepsychiatry on operational, financial and clinical outcomes

Validate where and how on-demand telepsychiatry is appropriate in a variety of applications across the health system

Provide a clear, customized picture of potential ROI to aid in decision-making and the development of a justifiable business case

“We understand the key role on-demand telepsychiatry can play in helping hospitals deliver financially sustainable care, but it has typically been challenging for leadership to quantify its impact at a detailed level,” says David Cohn, Chief Growth Officer at InSight + Regroup. “Now, this capability allows us to collaborate with healthcare organizations and give them a fresh, detailed view of their current cost exposure and expected operational outcomes and financial returns from on-demand telepsychiatry programming.”

About InSight + Regroup

InSight + Regroup is the leading and largest telepsychiatry service provider in the US with a mission to transform access to quality behavioral health care. InSight + Regroup serves hundreds of organizations and individuals in various settings across the continuum of care with its on-demand, scheduled services and direct-to-consumer (Inpathy) divisions. Given its size, diversity of services and extensive experience and expertise, InSight + Regroup is uniquely positioned to enable scalable telepsychiatry programs across the care continuum. As an industry thought leader, InSight + Regroup has helped shape the field, define the standard of care and advocate for improved telepsychiatry-friendly regulations. New Gaggle White Paper Helps Districts Understand and Support Students Struggling With Mental Health

News Image

The crisis in student mental health, particularly in middle and high schools, is causing school districts to expand the ways they identify struggling students and provide services that support their physical and emotional health.

According to the NEA, at least 10 million students ages 13–18 were suffering from depression, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or bipolar disorder before the crisis of the pandemic. Now, with the social isolation and increased stress caused by the novel coronavirus, schools and districts are facing even more extensive student mental health needs. To help educators understand and respond to this deepening crisis, Gaggle has published a new white paper titled “Addressing the Crisis in Student Mental Health: How Districts Can Identify and Support Struggling Students.”

The white paper reveals some of the research citing the rise of anxiety and depression among teens as well as causes of the “mental health tsunami” among teens and young adults. “There is real urgency for early treatment of mental health disorders,” said Gaggle CEO and founder, Jeff Patterson. “Suicide is now the second-leading cause of death among 10- to 19-year-olds in the United States. The Center for Suicide Prevention and Research reports that one in six teens has seriously considered suicide in the past year.”

To help teachers and administrators develop more comprehensive services to support students’ physical and mental health, the white paper shares solutions such as additional student services, more professional help, schoolwide interventions, social and emotional learning, and communitywide conversations. Additionally, the paper discusses how districts use Gaggle’s safety management solution as part of their physical and emotional safety initiatives. It shares four case studies highlighting different ways of accomplishing this goal. The white paper also mentions the new Gaggle Therapy service, which matches students who need mental health support with counselors licensed in their state for weekly teletherapy sessions.

“The crisis in student mental health, particularly in middle and high schools, is causing school districts to expand the ways they identify struggling students and provide services that support their physical and emotional health,” said Patterson. “The Center for Health and Healthcare in Schools reports that students who receive interventions usually do quite well and show greater resilience and emotional functioning. In this day and age, it’s not just about academic achievement anymore.”

Using a powerful combination of artificial intelligence and trained safety experts, the safety solution proactively assists districts 24/7/365 in the prevention of student suicide, bullying, inappropriate behaviors, school violence, and other harmful situations. Most importantly, Gaggle continues to help hundreds of districts avoid tragedies and save lives, while also protecting their liability. During the 2019–20 academic year, Gaggle helped districts save the lives of 927 students who were planning or actually attempting suicide.

“I cannot express how much it means to me to have my Strategic Family involved in such an important cause,” said Melanie Lehner, Quality Assurance Specialist at Strategic Financial Solutions. “Through this challenge, I hope that anyone who is struggling realizes that there are people who are there for them and support them. No matter what the issues that my Strategic Family is facing, I hope everyone takes this as an important reminder that the world is a better place with them in it.”

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education, and advocacy. Strategic’s donation will help fund scientific research, educate the public about mental health and suicide prevention, advocate for public policies in mental health, and support survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide.

“On behalf of the Western NY Chapter of AFSP, we are humbled and thrilled to have the support of the Strategic Family through September’s “#StratWalksaMile” campaign,” said Missy Stolfi, Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. “We need more companies like this to stand up and say that mental health is a priority, in order to change our culture and reduce stigma. The funds raised through this collective employee effort helps us continue offering to community members free prevention education programs, materials, loss and healing support, and engage in advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels. It sustains our groundbreaking suicide prevention research and moves us closer to our bold goal of reducing the national suicide rate by 20% by the year 2025.”
