2021 iaedp™ Symposium to Premier on March 18

“This is a tremendous offering for all participants,” says Bonnie Harken, Managing Director at iaedp™. “Since the 2021 Symposium will be available virtually for over six months, participants have the opportunity to plan their schedules to participate in more than 80 sessions and workshops.”

In less than three weeks, the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp™), recognized for its high-level education and training standards for eating disorders healthcare professionals, will launch its 2021 Symposium, a virtual experience of more than 80 sessions and workshops, four world-renowned keynote speakers, the four Core Courses needed to fulfill prerequisites for Certification or the Educational Designation and the traditional Exhibit Hall featuring many various presentations from the leading treatment centers in the field of eating disorders treatment.

“Our traditional in-person iaedp™ Symposium was disrupted by the coronavirus both in 2020 and this year,” said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director at iaedp™ Foundation, “but that hasn’t prevented us from offering the best and most innovative training and education available in eating disorders treatment today, featuring a corps of tremendous healthcare eating disorders professionals from the U.S. and around the world.”

A first-time offering to all participants as part of the 2021 Symposium registration fee are the Core Courses, which are needed to fulfill the prerequisites for Certification or the Educational Designation. The Core Courses, usually an added cost during the iaedp™ Symposium represent a significant value by being included in this year’s registration fee.

“This is a tremendous offering for all participants,” says Harken. “Since the 2021 Symposium will be available virtually for over six months, participants have the opportunity to plan their schedules to participate in each of the Core Courses as well as the more than 80 sessions and workshops.”

Unlike past iaedp™ Symposiums, where the in-person event requires participants to schedule a select a specific number of sessions over the four-day conference, when the 2021 Symposium

premieres virtually on March 18 and runs to September 1, registered participants can virtually experience all 87 sessions and workshops and the interactive Exhibit Hall.

One key feature for the 2021 iaedpTM Symposium that remains in place from previous years are the Continuing Education Credits (CEs) available for attendees to earn — a maximum of 40 CEs in 2021. While this year’s virtual Symposium allows all participants the opportunity to watch as many sessions as they wish, 40 is the maximum number of CEs available to earn. For specific CE information, visit the iaedp™ Symposium registration page.

“While there’s no substitute for the in-person iaedp™ Symposiums, which we hope will return in 2022, being able to see and experience every session, the Core Courses and the interactive Exhibit Hall is a special and worthwhile opportunity for all participants,” says Harken.

“Free Arts offers children and teens a safe environment and productive outlet to help work through what is often a dark and challenging time in their lives,” said PXG Founder and CEO Bob Parsons.

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation has donated $500,000 in general operating dollars over the next two years to Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona to support its strategic plan and ongoing growth. The nonprofit organization works to transform children’s trauma into strength and resilience through the arts. The focus of upcoming growth will be largely centered around reimagining Free Arts programming to incorporate virtual opportunities and ensure inclusivity.

“Free Arts offers children and teens a safe environment and productive outlet to help work through what is often a dark and challenging time in their lives,” said PXG Founder and CEO Bob Parsons. “We are proud to continue our support of this organization as it expands its efforts to bring transformational arts programming to even more children in need.”

The funds will be used to identify even more alternate programs and reimagine traditional Free Arts programs that can be delivered virtually or with a safe, hybrid model. Additionally, Free Arts will examine the organization with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens and work to dismantle barriers to serving children and our community in the most equitable way possible.

“This fundamental support from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation is crucial to our organization during this difficult time,” said Free Arts Executive Director Alicia Sutton Campbell. “It will allow us to continue to adapt our programs to serve children safely, while also allowing us to focus on the future and how Free Arts needs to grow and change in the coming years to best serve the community.”

The nonprofit’s 10-year vision includes a statewide expansion and increased programming for alumni as they move into adulthood. Free Arts believes every child living in foster care and emergency shelters in Arizona should have access to resilience-building arts programs and caring adult mentors.

“Art can be a very powerful outlet for expressing ourselves and dealing with complicated emotions,” said President and Executive Creative Director of PXG Apparel Renee Parsons. “Free Arts is offering children and young adults the ability to harness that power for healing and growth.”

The Parsons have been longtime supporters of Free Arts and through The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation have granted more than $4.5 million to the organization over the past seven years, including this most recent gift.

Free Arts currently serves more than 6,000 children annually, utilizing the talents and skills of 17 staff members, 22 board members and 800 volunteers. To learn more about Free Arts visit FreeArtsAz.org.

Workit Health Announces First Digital Hepatitis C Clinic Integrated into 100% Virtual Addiction Program

Workit Health telemedicine visit.

We’re removing barriers to care by offering hepatitis C treatment in a telehealth model. This means people can be diagnosed and cared for from the comfort of their homes.

Today, Workit Health announced its virtual substance use disorder program’s expansion to include hepatitis C treatment, making it the first telemedicine program specifically addressing hepatitis C.

“At Workit Health, we’ve seen hepatitis C affect patients of all ages and walks of life. Many patients may not be aware they have hepatitis C until our screening,” said Paul Leonard, MD, Workit Health’s Chief Medical Officer. “Many people still don’t know that hepatitis C is curable, with easy-to-take oral tablets offering a 95% cure rate. Treatment is often as short as 8-12 weeks.”

The CDC estimates that nearly 2.4 million Americans, or 1% of the population, are living with hepatitis C. The ongoing opioid crisis has caused rising rates of hepatitis C, especially among people who use drugs intravenously. Adults age 20-39 now have the highest rates of new hepatitis C cases, and it’s estimated that about 40% of people living with hepatitis C do not know they’re infected.

“Our model is confidential by nature. We’re in a position to identify the highest risk, least adherent populations and develop customized programs for them,” said Lisa McLaughlin, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Workit Health. “Telemedicine harm reduction acts as a unique entry point to lasting behavior change.”

“The opioid crisis has forced us to look at Hepatitis C with a new lens. What used to be thought of as a ‘baby boomer’ disease has now become intertwined with those who inject drugs. The CDC and AASLD have created new guidelines for simplified treatment cascades that lead to a cure,” said Michelle Melchiorre, Nurse Practitioner at Workit Health. “We’re removing barriers to care by offering hepatitis C treatment in a telehealth model. This means people can be diagnosed and cared for from the comfort of their homes. This is a gamechanger and the next step in compassionate harm reduction.”

Integrating hepatitis C treatment furthers Workit’s mission of meeting individuals where they are through wraparound care. By providing integrated services, Workit can assist health plans and other partners by identifying individuals earlier in the disease progression, ensuring a higher rate of treatment adherence and decreased long-term cost. By furthering quality metrics endorsed by CMS, Workit drives increased value through coordination of care across high-risk conditions.

About Workit Health:

Workit Health is an addiction healthcare B-corporation offering online, on-demand evidence-based addiction treatment, including telehealth medication for opioid use disorder. Workit Health partners with healthcare organizations to deliver an innovative digital health solution that blends the best of human-centered design, technology, and science. Evidence-Based Addiction Treatment Now Available at Compass Housing Alliance

Compass Housing Alliance has welcomed Ideal Option, a leader in evidence-based treatment for addiction to opioids, alcohol, meth, and other substances, as the newest onsite service provider inside their Day Center in Pioneer Square located at 210 Alaskan Way S., Seattle, WA 98104.

Ideal Option will staff a private kiosk for new and existing patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12pm – 4pm. New patients can enroll and complete their first visit with an addiction medicine provider via telemedicine at the kiosk to obtain a prescription for FDA-approved medications such as Buprenorphine, Naltrexone, and Bupropion. Patients can continue treatment at the kiosk or at one of Ideal Option’s several clinic locations in the greater Seattle area. Ideal Option accepts Medicaid, Medicare and most commercial insurance plans.

“Here at Compass Housing Alliance we embrace a harm reduction, low barrier model to accessing both housing and services while walking along side people towards their goals, and encouraging safe, healthy and higher quality living. Treatment for substance use disorder is often an important part of the process that unlocks the ability for people to get off the streets and enter stable housing, seek employment, and rebuild relationships in their life.” Said Teena Ellison, Director of Housing Services, “We’re excited to be able to offer evidence-based treatment on demand to the thousands of people who come through our Day Center each year, as well as people living in Compass’s transitional and permanent supportive housing.”

Starting treatment using a telemedicine kiosk has been made possible by DEA emergency guidance driven by the pandemic that waives the requirement for a physical exam before prescribing controlled substances.

“We created a satellite service model to help people get needed substance use disorder treatment when and where it is most convenient and comfortable for them,” said Tim Kilgallon, CEO at Ideal Option. “The ability to deliver evidence-based treatment to underserved patients while they access housing and other services to help them rebuild their lives will make a momentous impact on the drug epidemic.”

Branching Minds and Aperture Education Launch Partnership to Support Students’ SEL in K-12 Districts Through MTSS

News Image

With Branching Minds, we’ll be able to combine the power of the DESSA SEL assessments with the convenience of delivery within the Branching Minds system, which educators already use and trust – a win-win for schools and kids!

Branching Minds, the digital platform and national expert on Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI), and Aperture Education, provider of the highly respected, research-backed comprehensive SEL assessment suite the DESSA, are excited to announce a new partnership.

Aperture Education has a long track record of helping teachers assess students’ social-emotional competencies, monitor progress, measure outcomes, and strengthen the social-emotional competence of students in grades K-12, in a strengths-based format. Grounded in resilience theory and directly aligned to the CASEL framework, Aperture Education’s assessment, the DESSA, is a standardized user-friendly, practical social-emotional learning assessment that meets the highest professional standards.

Branching Minds, as a leading MTSS/RTI solution, has an impressive history of providing teachers with ways to leverage assessment data in order to identify the best interventions to use, guiding teachers through the process of creating effective academic, behavioral, and social-emotional intervention plans, and supporting collaborative problem-solving, documentation and reporting at every level of MTSS/RTI. Thanks to partnerships like this, Branching Minds has been able to evolve into a solution that connects the dots for teachers across academics, behavior, and SEL, enabling them to holistically support all of their students.

Today, in addition to integrating the Aperture SEL assessment and reporting technology , Branching Minds also provides teachers the ability to administer the SECA assessment to understand students’ perceptions of their own SEL competence, track major and minor behavior incidents, generate behavior incident reports at the individual, school and district level, create behavior support plans – including a suite of behavior progress monitoring measures and hundreds of free, evidence-based behavior and SEL interventions and accommodations. The Branching Minds Behavior/SEL support library is organized by the CASEL framework and includes supports for attendance, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness, from sources such as HARMONY SEL, another Branching Minds partner.

This new partnership provides districts and schools with a comprehensive RTI/MTSS solution. District and school leaders will finally be able to provide their teachers a way to collaboratively problem-solve and support all students’ academic, behavior and SEL needs, with an easy to use, comprehensive, intervention management system—that drives strong student outcomes in equitable ways.

“Partnering with Branching Minds on a holistic system to support student social-emotional growth is an exciting endeavor. We’re passionate about providing educators with reliable data so they can make informed decisions for their students. And with Branching Minds, we’ll be able to combine the power of the DESSA SEL assessments with the convenience of delivery within the Branching Minds system, which educators already use and trust – a win-win for schools and kids!” — Jessica Adamson, CEO of Aperture Education

“We couldn’t be more excited to provide our district partners with an opportunity to accurately and proactively identify students who need social emotional support, as well as a means to more deeply understand their needs, and monitor their progress. We always say, ‘we are data agnostic, but data opinionated’ — the DESSA is the kind of data we want all of our districts to be able to leverage. It perfectly complements the rest of our SEL support and bringing it all together will make it so much easier for teachers to help their students holistically.” — Maya Gat, CEO and founder of Branching Minds
